Has there been an anime that uses western songs instead of the typical j-pop? Licensing can be an issue, but surely there are some examples.
Hard mode: No Jojo
Ultra hard mode: Not used as an OP nor ED

Most eurobeat is made by Italian artists
Only a few because western music is shit.
Silent Voice used My Generation
Does that count as an OP? because it's played at the start of the movie
Drifters OP
I know Beck covers the Beatles, they probably have one or two others that cover western artists.
Hard-mode aside, the Mushishi and Lain OPs are in English.
Go to bed, Ken-sama.

I WISH THAT I COULD TURN BACK TIME
Now that I think about it it's kind of weird that the climax to a Japanese movie made by a Japanese man for a Japanese audience was backed by a song sung in English.

Re:Creators uses songs in English all the time.
Wasn't he trying to get "Hey, Jude" for that sequence?
We need more YES in anime.
Except this is not a western song, as the japanese lyrics were written by Anno and the arrangement done by Shiro Sagisu.
Ergo Proxy used Paranoid Android from Radiohead
and Monoral kiri was sung in english
does this count?
Evangelion had Fly Me to the Moon
What has ELO?
daicon IV, you fool
What has ELO?
...
You fuckers are tards. He meant Electric Light Orchestra. The name of the band, not the anime. And, yes, that's ELO's album art.
What a new fag.
Disregard, I suck cocks.

Paradise Kiss has Franz Ferdinand
STOP! I can't listen to that song due to that stupid movie. I just remember they kept playing it over and over.
kek
you're thinking of Nujabes
Dumbest thing I've seen all day.
>I just remember they kept playing it over and over.
at least the way they sung it was kinda cute, meanwhile ..
Shing02 sang the lyrics. Nujabes made the melody.

>Seba was one of the most prolific contributors to the soundtrack of the critically acclaimed anime series Samurai Champloo, which blends a feudal Japanese setting with modern anachronisms, especially in regard to hip hop culture such as graffiti and rapping
>Licensing can be an issue
If the anime is produced by Aniplex or Warner Bros they can usually pull songs from their music labels, ie Sony Music Entertainment and Warnee Music Group
That’s what Metropilis has Ray Charles, JJBA with Yes, Paradise Kiss and Franz Ferdinand etc
>myanimelist.net
>Electric Light Orchestra
>Theme Song Performance
There was one episode of Ixion Saga that played John Lennon's Imagine.
Mushishi OP 1-2
>no 0083 ed yet
VOTOMS used this song which actually triggered the fuck out of the MC due to it being related to his old squad and the war crimes they committed
m.youtube.com
There was a good tribute to Daicon IV that used the same song too. The show itself wasn't anime, but the opening was.

At the risk of sounding like a gaia fag, western songs and anime do go pretty good together when done right. I wish Japan used them more often. Maybe it's just language bias though.
Old Country Road was used in that one Ghibli movie, Whisper of the Heart or whatever it's called.
This gem right here

Well, Komm Susser Todd is an obvious Hey Jude knockoff. It even has the same medoldy as the "naaa naaa naaa na na na na" part at one point. Hey Jude's lyrics also fit the themes of EoE and the third impact scene really well. Of course Anno wouldn't have been able to afford it since Gainax was close to broke at that point, so it seems likely he might have just commissioned a substitute piece. Someone should edit that part of EoE with Hey Jude playing over it to see how it fits
>Remember to let her into your heart, then you can start to make it better
Orguss has an op with japanese lyrics sung by an amircan, does it count?
