002 is going to be killed off in the last episode in a heart wrenching self sacrificial way after being separated from Hiro for an extended period and there's nothing we can do to change it.

The series is all about how you need someone else to survive (like the birds in the first episode). I'm guessing if one of them dies either the other will die soon after or they'll die together.

I hope next episode the squad opens up a bit to Hiro, asking him for tips or something.

I'd really like a group practice session with Hiro and 02 involved, but considering that Hiro's convinced he's got one more chance to pilot with 02 before he dies I can't really see him jumping at the bit to get in the Franxx with her unless the situation is urgent.

Their second time piloting, the first with Hiro conscious, and their compatibility rate is already like 98%. I don't think it's possible for her to find a better tasting parasite.

Oni is cool. Hiro is boring. He's so boring, I can't believe that it was an accident.

There're somethings I still don't understand:
1. What happened with him and Naomi? Was it just that they couldn't sync?
2. Why does everybody blame him for that? Didn't episode three show that it could be either of their faults?
3. Why was he given permission to stay, whereas Naomi wasn't?

Hiro is hinted to have a lot of nuance as a character, we get this in his monologues. But for the past 3 episodes all we've seen is that he's depressed with no confidence in himself.

02's putting wind back in his sails, we've already seen a more adventurous and assertive Hiro in the last half of the 4th episode.

Yes, and because they couldn't Naomi is being put on the chopping block, Hiro was going to join her out of a sense of obligation, but he was given the opportunity to stay on despite fucking up the sync. There was a lot of resentment from Naomi here considering her demise is a direct consequence of Hiro, although she sticks her chin up at the end of it. She deeply regretted that he was made her partner though.

If you rewatch the first episode you'll notice that in the flashback scene of their trial run that Naomi's negative pulse was present but Hiro wasn't meeting her with a positive pulse. If Hiro had been able to produce a positive pulse they would have synched.

We don't rightly know yet. The reasons could range from Hiro somehow being potentially an important subject for Dr. Franxx's experiment he's running out of plantation 13 to Hiro getting special permission because of his past status as a prodigy among the potential parasites.

I think everything must have gone right on the proper tests but then the final came and shit went down, but since Hiro was a genius he was allowed to stay

To further expand on the second question, the fact that Hiro could sync with 02 does suggest there's a lot more going on then just partners producing pulses.

Perhaps the male pilot just has to be romantically interested in the female pilot. Maybe they just have to be generically "compatible" with no interest necessary. We don't really know.

What we do know is that he was able to connect with Ichigo, albeit briefly, but that the experience for him wasn't sufficient to maintain any form of mindmeld. We also know that he was able to fully mindmeld with 02 in what is implied to be a unique experience for the both of them. Mitsuru also gives us information on what a failed experience with 02 feels like, namely that the pilot feels like they're being consumed by her.

If we're going to use sexual analogies, it might be that Hiro "bottoms out" before he can fully immerse himself in a mindmeld which causes the desynchronization. While typical stamens aren't equipped to fully initiate a mindmeld with 02, and somehow in the vacuum of that space their physical vitality is eroded to maintain some semblance of synchronization.

But this could be spun bullshit for all we know.

1. From what I understood, the positive pulses come from the Females and the Negative ones come from the males, I'm saying this since Dr. Franxx said it in that same order during episode one, you can see he says "Negative and Positive" and then cuts and says Male and Female.

During the synchronization, they say

>Positive pulse on standby
so either Hiro wasn't able to get it up, or Naomi wasn't able to draw it out, either way it's just that they weren't compatible, Naomi clearly thinks it would have worked with someone else.

2. Maybe hiro had a longer history of failures before that, they clearly lost a lot of the respect they had for Hiro, so they blame him first.

3. Hiro is a double digit, 015, if single digits are extremely rare then double digits most be more special, Naomi was around 700, easily replaceable.
