There is a project in the works, exactly what it is has not been revealed yet. This was six months back but it was literally an hour or so after it got the green light at kadokawa... Most anime spend one to two years in production when the project is from scratch (season 2 was a contract option on the existing season one production organization).
So painful as this wait is it's not truly outlandish yet.
