I wouldn't have cared if Subaru picked Emilia over Rem if the director had simply chosen not to add that twenty minute long heartfelt scene between the two of them. Honestly, as beautiful as that scene was, from a directorial standpoint it was a horrible idea, because the end result was a shit ton of dramatic bordering on romantic tension that was resolved abruptly with no payoff for the viewer whatsoever.
