Hopefully Robot x Laserbeam will be our modern example soon. Who the hell writes a manga about Golf with a boring protag and expects it to do well.
Logan Bennett
Wait, that wasnt given the axe yet?
Samuel Myers
It already lasted too long for that.
Blake Evans
Was Demon's Plan Jump? I can scarcely remember. That lasted like 12 issues. Very recent example of a quick shutdown.
Nathan Flores
Yes it was, it fell apart pretty quickly.
Christian Bennett
>watsuki manga should we have noticed the early warning signs that hes a huge pedophile?
Adrian Bailey
The author's comments in gun blaze west a cancellation despair kino. I'll post some.
Angel Phillips
>U19 Did you forgot next big shonen?
Jose Russell
Is your image supposed to prove something?
Ryder Cox
More gun blaze west despair.
Joshua Clark
delicious JC
Cameron Wright
Just kidding around. He goes into detail how much he loves young ladies though in her making of comment. But without the context that he was a child porn hoarder it's sounds like any other old pervert mangaka
Colton Gomez
Is there any other mangaka giving a detailed post mortem of his manga analyzing why it didnt end up working?
Colton Clark
Isn't this series a fujobait?
Jacob Jackson
Someone must be reading it.
Daniel Adams
>tfw I entered the Jump contest >tfw seeing all these different manga get axed makes me incredibly anxious of that idea that even if I do win, it can all be over in a flash, simply cause my stuff didn't catch on quickly enough
There's like no magic formula to this. Sometimes I feel like things that are good, just have bad luck, or series with a slow build up have no chance.
It's moments like these when you gotta weigh the benefits of being with Jump, vs. being with anyone else. Imagine putting years of hard work and preparation into your dream project, knowing it has the potential to be big, and then getting axed 8 chapters in.
Why the fuck would anybody want to put effort into making good, original manga for Jump when U-19 and Ultra Battle Satellite gets axed but dogshit like Black Clover becomes popular?
Jaxson Watson
Wow, that's quite good. Good luck I guess.
Dylan King
Wow this is nice.
Good luck
Zachary Cox
Thanks, here, have another.
Prestige, success, I guess?
But then you look at series like Berserk, which were allowed a slow burn, and still became very popular. Or FMA, Soul Eater, MiA, or just about any series that wasn't with Jump, that really picked up.
Jump is kinda like that fast track to success, you'll make millions if you stay in long enough to get the ball rolling. But it's also incredibly risky, and highly competitive. But if you do manage to stay in, you WILL have a hit, for sure.
Luke Miller
Yeah, just look at Komi he went all original and did a great thing and got axed, then he does the most generic crap and it even gets a SHAFT adaptation.
Nolan Sanders
Are you Asian? That is some of the most legit Japanese looking manga are I've ever seen an user do.
Cameron Bailey
your art is nice but that story is not so nice, wishing you good luck though
Eli Rodriguez
You have to catch the attention pretty soon. It's not THAT hard, you have to do something that will make the reader wanting to read what happen next. I know it sounds obvious but sometimes it is not for the writer.
Samuel Mitchell
Pretty good art on that pic but overall your style looks rather western-ish.
Hudson Sullivan
No, I'm not. I'm just a spic weeb, who loves fightan games, and wants to make a manga about fightan games, and then eventually, hopefully, also make a fightan game about the game in that manga.
Lucas Robinson
>No, I'm not. I'm just a spic weeb, who loves fightan games, and wants to make a manga about fightan games. I hope you beat those Japanese's asses.
Brandon Flores
You want to make a fightan game about a manga about fightan games?
Bentley Morris
Is Neon Knight named like that because of the continuous afterimage he leaves when moving in timestop looking like a neon tube?
Nathaniel Clark
Can i have nezha as my waifu
Matthew Flores
I made a game for that manga, since I obviously can't use copyrighted IP like Street Fighter or Guilty Gear. Also, going the generic throwaway fantasy route would really take away from the action and such. So the opportunity presented itself to let me design my dream fighting game I guess.
So on the one hand you have a comfy slice of life manga about people who play competitive vidya, like a very Slam Dunk esque sports manga, but on the other hand, you have high-octane super tactical shounen battle manga fights with very unique and appealing character designs.
Or at least that's what we hope to accomplish.
Elijah Miller
Komi had a one shot about e-sport.
Hudson Johnson
That's a good explanation, I'm stealing it. But it's mostly a reference to a Black Sabbath song:
Yeah, I saw that. Still waiting on the translation.
Ayden Mitchell
Yes. Add to that that I love when someone fights with weapon flying over / next to / behind him
Gabriel Wood
It's already translated.
Jaxson James
Please make him a flat chested girl.
Brandon Wilson
Too late, you gay.
Kevin Gutierrez
No it is obvious for the writer as well, But you cant just put out a interesting premise and go with that. Planning aside, you need to be willing to invest a MASSIVE amount of your time into the creation of the series. And if it actually gets popular it will demand even more time. Mangakas try to stay interesting, but also need to be interested in the story themsefles AND need to work in the limits of what the magazine demands (eg. no rape, sex, etc), to boot, sometimes storys even get a layout for how they are supposed to play, a good selling strategy is the underdog MC who has something making him special. That is a LOT harder than most people realise.
Benjamin Anderson
Can someone dump it? If not, then dont let this thread die I will do it in 2 hours.
Cameron Hall
I'm on my phone but it's on madokami if you want
Jonathan Campbell
What the fuck are you doing here? Go away before you spoil your potential by staying here too long.
Samuel Wood
Cool, I'll look it up.
He's basically the "Bridget" of the game. His entire character is built around him being an angsty kid who gets pissed when people confuse him for a girl cause he's so effeminate.
Henry Martin
What's with Komi and giving the male MC bizarre hair decs
Christopher Stewart
So what exactly is the story life of some dude playing the game with bits of lore from the game?
John Perry
I don't know, but it looks idiotic.
Zachary Powell
It's not the shortest series, but the Stealth Symphony mangaka pretty much said "fuck you" to Jump when he had to end it after 21 chapters by killing off the MC.
James Harris
>kills off the MC oh, that sounds interesting I'll read that
Easton Gonzalez
was it good though?
Cameron Diaz
He likes to give hair pins to every main chara. Its his distinguish like unnatural color hair for mc in mist anime.
Carter Sanchez
I enjoyed it and it had potential to last, but I said the same thing about Red Sprite and people called me an idiot.
Wyatt Turner
I hope Kubo brings back Zombie Powder back from the dead as his next project. It was so good. Only had 4 volumes.
Hunter Collins
Red Sprite was way too fast for its own good, is all I'll say. Alfred(?) was badass, but still, the pace wasn't good.
Elijah Parker
I agree that it went too fast, but that might have been because the mangaka was pressured to get it to an ending point.
Justin Young
Could be, of course. I remember reading his earlier work, Iron Knight or whatever it was, but can't recall if it had the same problems present.
Jacob Anderson
I hope this series goes full on Prince of Tennis type shenanigans. Kinda glad we weren't subjected to the usual high school sports training shit with this.
Ayden Taylor
Iron Knight dropped the ball since the 1st episode, the OS was Godlike but the serialization dropped that hard.
Caleb Powell
Nin-nin is my waifu
Brody Lewis
>episode
Blake Allen
Kinda. It's mostly reminiscent of Slam Dunk at the start, but it quickly takes its own spins on it. (like the dynamic between the MC and the Lead Girl is very different from what you'd normally expect). I don't wanna give much away yet, but the first chapter will be out in June, whether we win or lose the contest. From there, if we lose, we'll probably go with Medibang, for a monthly release schedule. If we win... I don't think I'd wanna get into WSJ desu either, so we'd see what our options are with Shueshia on a less competitive monthly magazine or online platform.
Also, the lore of the game would be mentioned in passing, main manga is mostly mechanics and such. We wanna have a spinoff manga as well that's focused on the characters of the videogame.
If you check out the links posted here The "Alpha" is basically a pilot for the eSports one. But it'll be different from the actual manga in that the manga will have a different cast of characters starting from square one.
"World" however is fundamentally the first chapter of the spinoff manga.
Bentley Hernandez
Sorry, chapter.
Joseph Hernandez
...
Jaxon Torres
That one about the kid who could turn into a metallic goblin barely lasted 2 months IIRC.
Jeremiah Reyes
Where's chibi Nezha
Landon Richardson
Robo is actually a better protag than Kuroko, and Kuroko did well. So I expect this one to last.
Eli Russell
Kuroko was filled with the "unintentional" homoerotic vibe bounded to most of spokons, this not so much.
Thomas Nelson
>F/a/ggots still mad as fuck BC is popular and raking in millions
Jordan Reed
Still waiting for a answer, user?
Jace Wilson
Cute best girl
Jacob Nguyen
Will get made eventually. After Chibi Rosenrott. Currently I'm drafting the names for the first 14 chapters, as well as doing some commissions to stay alive. So I've put all the game-related stuff on hold for a while.
Oliver James
Do you have somewhere where we could contact you ? I want to see how far you go user
Tyler Hughes
Football sports manga called Tokyo Wonder Boys or something like that only lasted one volume, that's the shortest I know.
Gabriel Morgan
World is basically a one shot almost entirely about Nin-Nin. So if you like her, you should give it a read:
The first major battle arc was complete garbage and the series never quite recovered from it.
Jack Lee
> Calling U-19 a good manga. user we both know you are posting bullshit. Anyway, read the same mangakas previous work, original, well-paced and all that shit, 20 chapters later: it is axed. Cant blame the guy for just saying "fuck you" and produce a by-the-book series which somehow got really popular.
Gavin Perry
We all know this one will survive for 300 chapters and get at least two anime seasons. Fujo money will make this happen.
Tyler Powell
>not a comedy series featuring robots or laserbeams Wasted potential
Dylan Rivera
I'm genuinely fascinated by the concept behind it. Like, when do they start selling their souls to unleash the Forbidden Golf Stroke? I'm pretty sure all sports manga basically becomes that.
Landon Perry
This stuff looks really nice user! I hope you the best, though I wonder how Jump would handle editors for you considering you aren't in Japan and maybe don't speak Japanese?
Anthony Thompson
It was good until the Balmunk stuff
Camden Lewis
It should never have had a "major battle arc", gooddammit. It was hilarious.
Ryder Jackson
We did get something out of the arcs though
Jackson Cruz
Huh, I didn't know the Saiki author's previous work got as many volumes as it did.
Ryder Anderson
Someone in the old thread wanted 2016 by quarter
Luis Williams
I should be, yeah. My average rate is 2-4 pages a day, inked and toned, by myself. So with assistants, it should he doable. Especially since the writing is handled by my friend, that frees up a lot of time.
Still, I'm somewhat reluctant toward the idea for a few reasons. One, I need a lot of time on the side for the game stuff, fleshing out movesets, designs, mechanics, etc... and this does affect the power system in the manga. 30 pages a month on the other hand is totally doable, and I wouldn't even need assistants. Especially since a weekly schedule bus ultimately gonna affect the quality of the art.
We wonder the same thing too.
I'm personally learning Japanese regardless. Currently 700 words into my Anki deck. Abd I can read Kana, and most Kanji just fine. I should be at a point where I can read regular communicate in basic Japanese by April, which should come in handy. I start reading Yotsuba next month.
That said, language alone isn't everything. You still gotta account for Visas and a lot of other stuff. That's also why I'm operating under the assumption we won't get into WSJ if we do win. In which case, knowing Japanese will be useful for viraling the manga in Japanese forums when the time comes.
Ayden Hall
oh thank you user, so dancing midgets did have a pretty big slump then
