Good, it should be. Saber is the epitome of cancer when it comes to servants. Everything in the OP was true, it made Fate route into fucking moe

Is it worth watching the DEEN anime, if only to understand the Fate route?
Nolan Ross
You don’t wanna understand the Fate route. It will always be the biggest laughingstock of the whole Fate franchise, moreso than lesbian loli service and Fate Shitocrypha.
Nolan Johnson
Play the VN, you little bitch. Also, the DEEN series is not as bad as people make it out to be now. Everyone liked it at the time. That said, it's aged horribly, especially compared to the UFO adaptations.
There is no need to watch DEEN's UBW

Don't bother preaching to these guys. The summary of their exposure was some online recommendation to Fate/Zero and a speed-read of the rest on Beast's Lair. I bet they don't even know what the crux of Saber and Shirou's argument was about.

Dylan Powell
Shirou had absolutely zero clue as to what was actually going on until about halfway through the story, and he refused to listen to Saber and constantly put himself in danger for no reason at all.
Her basic reaction was to be cynical and weary after the events in Zero basically shattered her idealism. Ironically, Shirou's restored her faith in her principles.
Chase Gutierrez
FSN was translated by a student who had both English and Japanese as second languages.
John Edwards
>and he refused to listen to Saber and constantly put himself in danger for no reason at all.
Saber did the same fucking thing...or are you forgetting when she attacked the temple despite Shirou and Rin's better judgement? When she put herself in danger and nearly exposed her NP to the enemy?
Shirou and Saber where two stubborn fools at the start of the route. They only get better after the Shinji fight, where they work together.
Christian Baker
I thought Takajun was a Japanese teenager when he translated it.
Nolan Diaz
No, you're right, but as a servant it's her job to fight and die. Shirou treats the whole thing like a fucking game, even after Rin damn near killed him to drive the point home.
If Shirou fought in the Fourth War instead of Kerry, he'd be the first one dead. He's too stupid to live.
Charles Fisher
I mean the guy admits right there that even native Japanese speakers think his writing is amateurish. Yeah I'm sure the translation did him no favors but lets not pretend it would be amazing if it was translated better, the plot is still plodding and the characters are stilted
Jayden Sanders
Nasu isn't a literary master, but that doesn't mean that his writing is bad. Most of the things people complain about regarding his writing is the result of the translation.
Aiden Stewart
>Most of the things people complain about regarding his writing is the result of the translation.
Even the mollusk stuff?
Ayden Martin
You're confusing the Deen anime with the actual Fate route. Rin facing against Shirou was an additional Deen put in their anime that belongs to the UBW route.
In Fate, they join up together right after their loss again Berserker
>No, you're right, but as a servant it's her job to fight and die
No. Her job is to fight and win. Doing what she did is being reckless and stupid. Not doing her job. She really was no different from Shirou.
>If Shirou fought in the Fourth War instead of Kerry, he'd be the first one dead. He's too stupid to live.
Waver lived until the end but then again he didn't had Shirou's distortion.
It's not really a question of stupidity in that case
Austin Barnes
I don't think Waver was an idiot, at least in a strategic sense. He was a fool for getting into the war, and he was lucky to find a great servant.
Caleb Rogers
The sex scenes are the most badly translated parts of FSN. TakaJun didn't want to do it and he spent as little time and effort on them as possible. As a result you have literal translations of metaphors as well as bad word choices all over them. It's the equivalent of a hypothetical translation from English that goes "I took my rooster and trust it into her cat".
Jackson Davis
Shirou would have died in the 4th Grail War because he knew nothing about the war and he'd have had nobody to explain things to him.
Shirou could be quite intelligent. His "stupidity" was more the result of his insanity that made him want to die for others and his inability to accept that others might value him since he didn't give himself any value.
Tyler Thomas
>Japanese sex sounds like an ocean documental >English sex sounds like visiting the farm
Super interesting.
Jace Torres
The guy also praises Nasu's writing and disctinct praise. But you're only nitpicking the negatives.
Carson Barnes
>Lucky to find a great servant He litterally cucked KFC. Stole RIDER right from under his nose
Asher Peterson
that may have been for the best. I like the translation, and Fate can get pretty grim at times, and it helps to cheer up.

Justin Jackson
Waver was weak as shit but he did the reasonable thing and remained holed up in his house as much as he could afford to, and when rider dragged him out he was under the protection of an excellent servant that got along with the most broken and dangerous enemies so he got largely ignored.
So yeah, his decision to get into the war was retarded and brash, but once in it he behaved quite decently for someone of his ability.
Also fucking lmaoing at El Melon the first, how the fuck do wizards allow for cloktower workes to just go around lending their important mail to students? This is not a normal university, everyone is one step from gutting each other to discover their secrets or hide their own.
Sebastian Jackson
It's hard to find a master who is not a fool in the strategic sense. As naive as he was, Shirou was still better off than the likes of Kayneth, Tokiomi or Kariya
Daniel Anderson

Elijah Miller
>I did not read the VN; the post Wew >WAAAH I WANT TO GET DICKED We've talking about Caster, not Sakura. Caster just wanted to go back to her land and have a wholesome relationship with someone. Considering her legend, that makes perfect sense.
Jose Lee
Pretty much, though I wouldn't go as far as to call it outright bad.
I ended up reading Fate first, then Tsukihime/MB and KnK and imagine my surprise when my enjoyment of Nasu's work increased as I went backards in time to his earliest stuff. Magus bullshit is honestly the most interesting shit in the nasuverse, better than dead apostles and servants, yes I said it.
Honourable mention to some of the really cool stuff in HF and Kotomine in general, of course.
>mfw I got to the KnK novels and suddenly realized that El Melloi II Case Files wasn't actually a deviation from the general trend, but an actual return to the basics of Nasu
Admittedly it's a different author, but it really does feel like the Nasuverse going full circle. Too bad the company doesn't see it this way and it's gonna be grail wars from now to the end of times.
Carson Diaz
>Considering her legend Autism
Gavin Fisher
I did read the VN, Saber doesnt have agenda in Fate or Heavens feels. In UBW she just larps evil
Sebastian Bennett
HA Saber is basically a different character
Tyler Carter
>A character must behave in the same way in all of the situations they find themselves in Perhaps Saber is just a character who is far too complex for a brainlet like you?
Angel Martin
>Saber user, are you okay? We're talking about Caster Also >If we didn't see something happening it didn't happen Nope. Caster has an agenda in all routes, it just so happens that UBW is the only route where she is able to make impact. In Fate, she has to deal with Gil attacking the temple and killing Kuzuki and in HF, she is surprised by Assassin invading the temple, killing Kuzuki and then getting cut down by Saber.
Nolan Robinson
A lot of the HA scenes are comedy. Saber is about as in-character as in Carnival Phantasm.

Colton Myers
What's Saber "in character" for you? Brooding all the time, being emo and lamenting her kingdom? You think she is unable to have fun in a fun setting?
I'm sorry but characters in Fate generally aren't reduced to one or two character traits that are frequently repeated throughout all of their appearances
Benjamin Gomez
>Sakura >waits several years to have sex with Shirou and never actually expects it >Caster >fucks Kuzuki the very evening they meet eachother
Zachary Williams
...
Austin Bennett
>I'm sorry but characters in Fate generally aren't reduced to one or two character traits Autism. Saber's character isn't "complex" you goon. She's just inconsistent and poorly conceived. She's really a couple characters, at the least, clumsily clumped into one.
Christopher Taylor
I've been thinking, were Shirou and Saber based on Jinto and Lafiel? Nasu did mention in an old DEEN FSN interview that he picked Kawasumi for the role because he was impressed by other character of hers
Mason Baker
But that isn't right. Nasu addresses interesting themes with his writing, the one obsessed with darkness and edgy stuff is the manchild Urobuchi
Elijah Perez
You forgot to add that Sakura fucked Shinji (and worms) on the side everyday, wormfag
Evan Gray
They're both manchildren to be fair
Dylan Miller
It seems to me that you are unable to understand that characters react differently to the settings they find themselves. You think that the characters must always be this one exact thing and that other factors like development and the setting aren't relevant at all. Which is dumb. Archer EMIYA is an example, during UBW, he is behaving as an antagonist because he gets triggered by the presence of his younger self but during events in Grand Order, he is much more relaxed, generally behaving as the "mom" of the group. This isn't inconsistency, it's the character reacting differently to what's around them and acting accordingly.
HA is mostly a light hearted setting which is why the cast is generally enjoying their time, doing what they like to do. The Saber in HA is obviously post FSN development so she isn't an autistic retard gunning for the wish of having her rule erased.
Really, the only inconsistency Saber character has is her overblown love for honor and chivalry, which is an invention for Zero specifically (because Urobuchi likes breaking characters like that) and something you qon't find anywhere else in the series, not even her backstory.
Andrew Phillips
I think the right term is "chuuni"

How would the round table knights react to their King getting a cooking japanese red-haired "wife" ?
Who would approve most and who would disapprove? Would Mordred be jealous of her "mom"?
Bentley Cox
>autistic jobber chivalry bot
Seems to fit with how she actually behaved like in life.
If nothing else, Zero serves as the transition point that allows her to relax and fall for japanese dick later on.
Chase Roberts
>The bad eroge a a actually makes it good!
Camden Thompson
>Seems to fit with how she actually behaved like in life. Your secondary is showing. Saber definitely wasn't a chivalry bot in her backstory, she sacrificed her own villages in order to win wars. >If nothing else, Zero serves as the transition point that allows her to relax and fall for japanese dick later on. Zero brings a forced transition by making her a chivalry/honor obsessed freak when she never was one. Zero added nothing to Saber's character beyond her conflict with Lancelot.
Grayson Howard
>Badly written porn scenes that are not even 1/100 of all of the plot and that can be taken out without hurting the story make the plot bad!

>Saber definitely wasn't a chivalry bot in her backstory, she sacrificed her own villages in order to win wars.
That's just your expected nobility behavious. Muh chivalry towards the enemy, while throwing your own peasants into the meatgrinder.

Jackson Campbell
You're clearly a secondary. If you want to discuss Saber's backstory without looking dumb you need to either read the Fate Route or read Garden of Avalon. >That's just your expected nobility behavious. No it wasn't. Saber was an autistic machine like king who strived to always make the logical decision no matter the cost, chivalry be damned. >Muh chivalry towards the enemy, while throwing your own peasants into the meatgrinder. She also wasn't chivalrous to her enemies. Her first sword, Caliburn, broke because she disrespected one of the laws of chivalry in order to win a fight.
