It's unknown if there are still players around currently, but they left their equipment to the NPC's which can actually hurt Nazarick. They will be coming and he's trying to prepare for that. Yeah, people have to remember that Ainz went full "muh concept" with his build. It's why he basically had to abuse the 'AI's' limitations and waste a bunch of cash-shop items to win against Shelltear.

He learned a metric fuckton of spells and gained 'The Goal of All Life is Death', but in terms of actual combat power vs other players that's ONE thematic gimmick and some unpredictability in exchange for a hell of a lot of raw power, stats and capabilities. This was lots of fun when he could 'LOL NECRO' hiding behind the rest of his guildmates - useful even - but now he's desperate for a respec.

There are constant signs of players coming every 100 years, and just because the actual players don't exist, that doesn't mean their equipment has disappeared. It's confirmed that the dress used to control Shalltear was a WCI which is a threat to Ainz and it's unknown where the rest of them are.
