It would have needed two more seasons to get to where the story gets better than Monster of the Week, and the artwork isn't nearly up to the level Hamada is at now. Plus the ecchi gets way downplayed. (That said, it's not bad for what it is. It just could be so much better.)

The tournament arc has been awful, so he probably rushed her revival to get people interested again.
Please, tell me how you would've done it instead? Because yes, it's convenient and hacky, but it comes at the climax, at the right moment. So it has at least some drama to it. So in my opinion, it's done well enough.

Kazuya created life by pouring spirit power into obi creating Azami, so thats the next way to ress someone, just pour spirit into it maybe in a specific secret way that only the temple knows.
Sunao did that Kotetsu revival trip, funny thing he didn't die yet it took way more effort to make him wake up.
