Nothing makes me more mad than how commercial Evangelion has become...

Nothing makes me more mad than how commercial Evangelion has become, considering the whole theme and message behind the series.

Maybe "best girl" posting is even worse considering the characters were designed with you people in mind.

shit, let them fags fund 4.44 and enjoy sligthly better special effects when it comes out

woah, kaworu looks hot

i miss when anno hated everyone

>getting angry because a commercial product makes money

I'm more angery because I feel it kind of undermines the whole anime and otaku culture commentary in the original series.

That commentary is retarded so no loss there.

I wish the next Evangelion thing was a commentary on the irony of Evangelion's commentary and commercialization and a deconstruction of deconstructions.

It goes right over Sup Forums's head. If anyone tries to tell you Sup Forums is different from ANN, Gaia, MAL, or youtube comments, they're wrong.

Anyways, Shin Godzilla is Anno's greatest work of all time.

Maybe you should take it as a lesson that Anno was wrong and he was just being an angsty bitch.

stfu OP, I swear to god.

you're WRONG go back to reiposting

Why would you know or care about how commercial it's become? Just rewatch the series every once in a while and ignore the promotion, the merch, etc.

Okay yeah sure, but Mari's outfit is pretty cool there.

is it really? i haven't seen it yet. End of Evangelion is like one of my favorite works of all time so if you're saying its better...

I feel like Evangelion and EoE are actual works of art that say something real about the viewer, and using it as a brand to sell clothes seems kinda cheap to me. I feel that in a way it retroactively takes away from what Anno was going for with the series. But then, Rebuild also kind of does that.

You can always look at Fate and see that things can be far, far worse.

EoE is good, but SG is just as good. Slightly better. Kaiju kino, if you will.

ok yeah you're right

thanks user i'll GET ON THAT SHIT

>art shouldn't be successful and popular
That's literally the point though..

I don’t care if they rerelease the anime once in a while or something but art also has meaning, and Evangelion’s is undermined by excessive commercialization.

when you stare into the abyss the abyss stares back

when you try to tell a story about trashy anime series through an trashy anime series, you risk it becoming one for real

Seeing Mari in promotinal material makes me so mad

It's funny because it feels literally like watching an eva episode. But no, it isn't that great.

You're an idiot.

Eva was designed to sell merch from day 1. It was a toy commercial, only the girls were the toys being sold. What you see now is what Eva alway was, stripped of the mythology behind it.

*Always

>yeah let me put in tons of effort and though into this show to sell cheap toys

>Rebuild dumpster fire that's going nowhere

>no Anima or even girlfriend of steel anime
god damn it

No it isn't. Selling T-shirts doesn't affect any message the show might have had. That doesn't make sense.

>themes of depression, anxiety, self worth
>commentary on sexism in the medium, deconstruction
>moved from the kids show time slot to adult prime time
>”Eva was designed to sell merch from day 1”

Yes? Why wouldn't they? It happens quite a lot.

The show was a lot more than just a product but this feels like just slapping the brand on for Easy Money

*hacks blood* r-rebuild 4.44 now in production

maybe we'll get to meet the aliens in this one

>my chink cartoons are very mature

Character goods are not toys and before Evangelion the modern otaku character goods market didn't even exist as far as I know. Evangelion created it along with late night anime. It was originally made as a daytime show.

Westerners have an irrational fear of merchandising.

Some of it is, some of it isn't.

>anno was wrong
Yeah no

It may be "more than a product", but it is still a product.
