Violet Evergarden

Literally Titanic of anime.

Overrated mess that should have stayed in the 90s?

there's already VEG thread desu...

A masterpiece by James Cameron?
I agree.

Over hyped and a bad start did not help that there's no real connection to the characters. If it takes until over half way through the series before the viewer starts to care about violet and her back story, it reflects very poorly on the writers. For the most part the show is nothing but visuals porn and while that's not bad itself, it's not enough to make the show all that compelling to watch.

A sinking ship that Kyoani fags are deciding to die with?

I'm watching it. I dropped nearly every other show aside from ameagari and gakuen babysitters

...

But Titanic was complete fucking garbage and VEG is ok.

>Masterpiece
user...irregardless of your feelings for VEG, titanic was a crap.

>Jack
>Rose
>Jack
>Rose
OVER AND OVER. GET ON THE FUCKING PIECE OF WOOD YOU RETARD.

Are we talking about the movie or the boat?
why do both fit VEG perfectly?

That is true. Now I can see why people hated MGS2.

More like Toilet Evermelodramatic

VEG is god tier, fuck off.

i thought i was the only one who find this shit boring as hell but it seems not, which is the trama behind this shit? "find what love means" what the fuck?

VEG is overhyped and underrated.

Is this first that you read? a lot of people hate it because of kyoani and because it didn't meet their expectations, but that doesn't mean it's a bad anime, you can love or hate whatever you want.

How high do your expectations have to be for VEG to not satisfy them? Like holy shit. I don't understand what people wanted out of VEG that they didn't get.

...

reminder that violet wants to know what is love

Titanic wasn't that bad, its just that retards overhyped it and made it seem like the second coming of Christ when it was just a disaster movie with a higher budget.

At least i don't want Haruhi S3 by KyoAni this bad now.

Personally I expected a show with gripping themes, subtle yet complex storytelling and deep characterization. I got just another run of the mill, predictable and trope ridden seasonal drama anime. It's a solid 6 by anime standards so I guess it's alright.

>Personally I expected a show with gripping themes, subtle yet complex storytelling and deep characterization.
From what, exactly? All the trailers saying "I want to understand love" and showing her typewriting? I got literally everything I expected and more out of the show.

But we all expected VEG to be their next big, no, I mean, BIG thing.

The storytelling in this anime has been a mess. They devoted four episodes to stablish Violet's new job, but then used that setting for only two and a half episodes. Important character developments were made offscreen. The first episodes had more continuity, but then they had timeskips of very ambiguos length, which made Violet's develpoment even more confusing (how long has it been? How many jobs has she had beetwen each episode?).

Big in what sense? It is hugely amazing for me. I hope you don't mean big in scope 'cause KyoAni never does that.

I thought they were going to delve deeper into complex emotions such as love and challenge our conceptions. What we got is Violet looking for the literal dictionary definition of love and for some reason no one telling her what it is, like how Leon taught her what being lonely felt like.

I CLAPPED
I LITERALLY CLAPPED

You want a couple seasons worth of rando episodic content where Violet learns the same lessons over and over and they fuck up the budget?

Like Haruhi or bigger

But VEG is BIG in China.

We've not even reached the conclusion of her search for love yet. People told her what love means but reading the dictionary definition of it is completely different to internalizing the emotion. Especially when you're a numb biological weapon.

I am starting to guess that the original 'god tier' novel actually was an unbearable mess by an amateur fic writer. But anime is still worse.

>Important character developments were made offscreen.
I never understood this complain, Violet didn't really develop as a character during the timeskip, all she did was read novels and work with more clients to get experience at her job. Her base character traits remained the same.

Based on all the changes novelfags have spoiled so far, I think the novel did a much better job than what the anime is currently attempting. Maybe the prose is shit but the structure of the plot seems much better in the novel

plebs, all of you

Yeah exactly, she figures out how to put things into words better, but she still doesn't understand it. She did the beautiful love letters for the princess but that doesn't mean she truly understood all her feeling. She got good at carrying out her missions very quickly, but emotionally she is incredibly slow to develop.

I can safely assume that if the writers decided to do Violet's backstory early, KyoAni haters would be calling it cliched pacing, or an unnecessary dump of exposition. Yeah, the show started slow, but it's really paying off now, especially with the last episode.

I spent the first 6 or 7 episodes trying to figure out if Violet is actually human or not. I like the show but I don't understand why we only now get some back story on her. And I still don't understand stuff, like where did she come from? What happened during the first 10 years of her life. I imagine she grew up in solitude and isolation, but how did she develop her propensity for violence?

Haven't gotten around to watching it just yet, is the MC basically a character with alexithymia trying to function in society? Sounds interesting.

A (you) for your dedication

to be fair, the PV's were pretty awesome, especially PV3, I can remember getting quite hyped for this show like a year ago. Good show, but also a good example of dangerously hyping things up.

If this show was made by some random studio as opposed to KyoAni, and didn't have half the publicity, people would be really really enjoying it. Not a kyoani fag, but I remember seeing threads month before episode 1 even dropped discussing how to ruin a show. It was unnecessarily being hyped by people who wouldn't even watch it, and people who hate KyoAni.

So watch it, form your own opinion, I think it's worth the plunge

>but how did she develop her propensity for violence?
It's a slow burn. All will be revealed, but slowly. It takes patience.

>to be fair, the PV's were pretty awesome, especially PV3, I can remember getting quite hyped for this show like a year ago. Good show, but also a good example of dangerously hyping things up.
Yeah I was super hyped for the show. But what in those trails mislead you? My hype has been sated so far and I'm only more hyped for what is coming. The latest ep was amazing.

>confusing

t. brainlet, if this is an example of a confusing method of storytelling to you, how the fuck do you even enjoy anime at this point. There is literally nothing confusing, nor even complex about it.

Violet Evergarden?

More like Violet Eversnooze am I right?

confusing not because he couldn't understand it, but because it was obfuscated and unclear and shoddy.
why don't you learn to read first, dickrider?

That less than 40% of the screen would be muddied for no good reason at any given thime

Nothing in the PV's misled me, the show itself has turned out exactly what the PV's were promising. I think the danger is, if you enjoy a PV, you only have 90 seconds of content to judge something, and the period of time between the PV and the show coming out is where your imagination can run riot so to speak. I would compare it to a really good game trailer, but most game trailers nowadays are borderline fraudulent, so maybe not a good example. So if anything, I misled myself if that makes sense. I can't wait for the new episode too, last ep was great user

Good animation fan or fujo seeking material?

reasonable counterpoint to the faggot who claimed that because the water ripplez wuz very pwettty that VEG was good or something

Learn to write, cunt. There is nothing unclear about the plot in VEG. If you think it's shoddy, fine, but don't act like the show is confusing when it clearly isn't.

Well, half the episode was. Second part was dragging on for too long, imho.

This is correct

What else do you need? She settles into her job and handles it well after a few hick-ups. They spend like six episodes doing this. Three episodes of her learning the ropes, three episodes of her travelling and doing the job and gathering experiences. Now it's time to get the ball rolling again. Important characters? Maybe. But the show's not actually about them or their problems. They still get one episode each focusing on them and resolving some of their issues, at least putting them in a better spot than they started in, with hopes for the future. I think that's good enough. I wouldn't want an arc of the slutty typewriter and the mail man playing tsundere with each other.

>All these retards not realizing that OP is referencing the actual Titanic and not the movie.

>timeskips of ambiguous length
>character development left unclear, making it confusing how much she develops in between episodes
>character development is OFFSCREEN
>not confusing
lmaoing @ ur life fampai

I would say it's a compliment, and frankly speaks volumes about them that you're even comparing KyoAni work with Bebop in the first place.

>comparing movie budget with TV budget
wwwwwww

...

It's not a comparison, it's just making a point by turning a well animated action sequence with great use of perspective, foreshortening and full body animation into a close up ridden, fast cut galore shitfest

Nobody cares.

and how exactly should they be showing Violet's development then? Is her development not immediately clear through the interaction with each of her clients, colleagues, or her other various characters? Or do you need bashed over the head with mindless dialogue where Violet says "fuck, I'm getting better at this interaction stuff", and Cattleya says "shit, you are indeed, Violet".

How about a chart at the side of the screen in each episode that numerically denotes Violet's development and ability to understand emotions and concepts. Is that clear enough for you?

Ironically, you note repetition as a critique, but you keep repeating this "offscreen" notion, without giving one example.

god yui is so fucking cute

It's a pretty big difference to be honest one is one of the most popular films of all time the other was touted as one of the greatest things ever then went on to become one of the greatest tragedies ever.

listen nigga
>development offscreen
is never not shit and not confusing.
it's inherent, nothing you even say matters

>>timeskips of ambiguous length
Who cares?
>>character development left unclear, making it confusing how much she develops in between episodes
What's unclear? I'm not writing all that stuff again so here >>character development is OFFSCREEN
No, it's not. You just weren't paying attention.

It's neither of those things. It's not the biggest movie ever and it's not the biggest catastrophe ever. It's just a anime about a mysterious child soldier trying to become a real human being.

>resorting to reductio ad absurdum
Just because they did a shit job at showing Violet gradually getting better at her job (she's just better after each timeskip, that's clear by her interactions with other characters) it doesn't mean it can't be done.

So you just want more content then? Is that it?

Not him but I don't think they did a shit job at that
>Episode 1 she decides to become a ghostwriter
>Episode 2 she tries her hand with a client and fails miserable
>Episode 3 she goes to a course and barely passes by writing a pretty simple but effective letter
>Episode 4 she's good enough to write an apology letter to Iris' parents and the guests

This is where the longest timeskip happens
>Episode 5 she's already experienced and knowledgeable enough to write top tier letters

I don't think we needed to see the content between episode 4 and 5, it will be just more of the same, the message came across, she is learning and working with clients now. We've seen her fail and rise up, as well as in a comfortable enough state to write a competent letter without much issues (ep4). Besides, her learning to be a good ghostwriter isn't the point of the series.

Dropped at episode 3
Goodbye

See you tomorrow.

Although Kate Winslet was a meh looking fatso.
Violet, on the other hand, is extraordinarily beautiful.

She has a manface though, see also a body of a little boy, see

Dropped this shitheap after one episode.

I'm confused.

What fucking timeskips.
There's only one and she spent it reading romance, great development.

Can't wait for the doujin about this.

It's enjoyable, though somewhat unexciting in how it's structured. Up until ep8 it was reiterating the same premise in different variants. Someone suffered a loss and is down in the dumps about it, then Violet shows up and show by contrast that others had a shitty life too, cue to taking off her gloves and after a bit of back and forth the character of the week's inner pain is healed and they yell "Thank you, Violet Evergarden!" as she sets off into the sunset. The way they lay on the drama feels a bit emotionally manipulative, like KEY stuff tends to do, aiming for the cheap shots to make your eyes well up, but it never goes quite as bad in VE.

The whole thing is framed by her quest for the meaning of love. With ep8 we finally got a change of episode structure, though it's painfully obvious that the major is still alive, so the drama feels a bit cheap, since Violet won't have to carry the burden of loss that all those other characters up till now will have to live with. Overall it's nice, though I probably wouldn't bother with it, if it didn't have the lavish production values. That's at least my impression up till now.

>MAL score was 9.0+ before it even fucking aired
>Now down to 8.39
I don't even hate it that much, the last episode was pretty great

Do you see Gilbert and Violet relationship romantic or parental?

Gilbert took it as romantic.
Violet takes it as romantic.

The most people see it as pedophilia.

Perfectly normal in anime.
You need to go back or watch more anime

No its not normal. Name even one relationship with 10 years age gap.

The Ancient Magus' Bride

>Literally Titanic of anime.
But Titanic actually made money.

I'm genuinely curious, why do you retards create another thread when there's already an existing one about the related anime? What makes you think your opinion is so worthwhile?

>jack died
>bitch survives
*hue hue hue noises

Dude, are you autistic?

Fuck off, if you don't wanna see VEG threads then hide them retard.

That doesn't excuse creating a second thread, does it?

>You can see a panty shot in Violet's reflection in the water
Is this true?

Yes. Violet wears pretty lewd panties

Why? If anons want to discuss VEG with different threads and topics whether it's just shitposting or not they can create threads as many as they want.
Fuck off, Sup Forums isn't /vg/.

That's not how it works, though. Spamming several thread about a series is against the rules and VEG threads are no different than generals at this point which means they should abide same rules with generals but that's not my point. I'm simply curious what's the point of a second thread? What do you hope to accomplish with this?

Why did they spend over half the series dicking around with episodes that seemingly added nothing to the story? I even liked it at the beginning but it quickly started feeling like the series wasn't going anywhere with the episodic plots. I hope they can somehow tie everything together in the final episodes but I kinda doubt it. I hope they prove me wrong.

>Spamming
Are you retarded?
VEG has like 2-3 threads on Sup Forums and most of them don't even hit the bump limit plus it's an airing anime this season.
No rules are getting broken.

>I'm simply curious what's the point of a second thread?
Ask OP and why do you care so much?

>What do you hope to accomplish with this?
Accomplish what? No one is trying to accomplish shit.
