They probably fought Whitebeard/Shanks/Kaidou's crew in the past, as well as powerful marine.

Katakuri has a bounty of over a billion, you don't get that from doing nothing or even just having a Yonko mom. He clearly has fought tons of opponents strong enough to get the government's attention.

user, the Big Mom pirates have roughly the same amount of powerful notables that the Whitebeard pirates do, and those guys have more feats at this point. I mean, Vista, Marco, and Jozu could probably be assumed to be roughly on par with the Sweet Commanders, and the rest of Whitebeard's division commanders could be assumed to range from guys like Tomago to Oven.

Is Fishman island skippable? I’ve read the first chapters and it’s a pain the ass. Can someone sum it up?

You shouldn't skip it, user. What happens in the arc will probably be way more important down the line than what the next two arcs will be for one after the current one. Specifically, what's set up there has more implications regarding the grander plot than what occurs on Punk Hazard and Doffy's home turf.Stick with it, enjoy it for what it is, put on some calypso music when reading it or something.

The whole fight was meaningless, Luffy did not deserve to win, he did not have strength, skill, not even a fucking plan, he just won, and it was shown that he did not have the slightest chance against Katakuri before, an epic beating, he comes back is simply won ... without even an explanation ... just plot ....

take into consideration that this is a story made for 12-year-old boys, about a rubber pirate, has his moments of genius, but it's still a child's story

Worst ark ever imo. Skip it, you miss nothing in particular. Only relevant thing is Luffy declaring fishman island is under his protection and there is a bomb in the chest sent to Big Mom instead of treasure. Shitty shitty arc.

I didn't hate it but I definitely had issue with it.

I think my issue with it is that advanced Obeservation Haki was too infallible and it only being lessened when an opponent is tired wasn't enough of a drawback. It made it too much of a stonewall and forced this awkward training phase against Katakuri where it's suddenly learned that he can simply get it himself by developing it through "difficult battle". Not to mention the fact that Katakuri seemingly had more than enough at his disposal to beat Luffy long before Katakuri grew serious respect for him and wanted a straight up fight.

I liked the theory back when Luffy turned the tide and got a hit in that advanced Observation Haki could only be used to react as a defensive measure and that you cannot see the future if you took direct, prolonged action yourself. It keeps it incredibly powerful but doesn't make it infallible and gives reason why Luffy could eventually deal with it. You could even keep the "Haki gets tired" aspect and apply it to some degree and it could still work.

Also, while I understand it being useable by others makes sense, I still think if it was kept as a more unique thing it could work better. Katakuri could have uniquely good advanced Observation Haki, and while Luffy might be able to learn it to a degree eventually he couldn't necessarily make it as strong.

Imagine if you had it and you had someone trying to attack you. You can simply react to what they are doing and respond accordingly.

However, if you start taking action yourself, are you not adding more "timelines" that you have to be aware? You're seeing futures that change depending not just on the opponent but what you are doing. There could be some kind of overload where it becomes difficult to deal with all these possible outcomes if not impossible.

This is obviously just complete guess work but maybe someone sees what I mean.
