I really, really wanted to like this show, but I just couldn't.
The animation is terrible and the story is generic haremtrash.
Why do people like this turd?

its told out of chronological order so you have the random retard asking what is going on making the bakefaggot feel intelligent. And the show has some female anime watching fans who like the main character so it helps with the self insert immersion for the ironic weeb

...

your supposed to turn off your brain and watch it with youre dick

i don't see how it's generic

its just not a show for kid come back when your taste get better

>The animation is terrible and the story is generic haremtrash.
there is already a pretty shitty monogatari thread up right now, you didn't need to make another one

I liked the style of animation in Bakemonogatari, I thought it was a little weird and out there and it does some cool things IMO. But after so many seasons the novelty wears off, so after that it's more just having an interest in the characters, but even then I'm personally not up to date, I stopped watching somewhere during Second Season.

ignore these retards
The animation is highly stylized and it picks up more quality during action sequences.
As far as haremshit goes for this one, Arararagi isn't a social retard that NEETs can easily self-insert into except that he's a manlet plus he's happy with his girlfriend.
I like it because the extremely well-defined characters all with their own unique personalities and their dynamics with Arararagi are well written. The conversations alone can be interesting and monogatari has a lot of long dialogue scenes that can still hold your attention.

also gonna add, don't force yourself to like things

Not OP, I agree with you mostly, but the one thing I hate about the series is when Arararagi kisses other girls, it ruins the whole fact that he has a girlfriend, it's the only parts that do make it seem like generic harem shit to me.
And no I don't think that one line where Hitagi says something like "i dont care as long as you dont love them" (I probably butchered it, I have't watched the show in a while) really justifies these scenes.

adding:
But yeah the conversations and dialogue make the show for me, it's complete and utter word porn and I love it.

its like forcing yourself to like soccer when you prefer baseball and end up saying that soccer is for retard

>"i dont care as long as you dont love them"
I think that was her trying to convince herself that it is okay because the only person who happened to show her the level of compassion enough to help her happened to be a slimy perv named Koyomi

That's a good way to put it I guess, but is she okay with it all? I'm not up to date so I don't know if the show addresses it.

I can get not liking it. I genuinely don't understand how it got massively popular considering the type of story and characters it has. That being said
>generic haremtrash
MC gets a girlfriend immediately. His relationship with said MC (and the other "main chick") frames his relationships with the rest of the chicks and they're the actual focus of the narrative while those two mostly just hang around in the background outside of a couple specific arcs. It's not really that generic I think, at least not in setup anyway. Especially from Second Season onwards.

>generic haremtrash
Araragi has a personalitty, interests and gets a girlfriend in ep3.

>it's the only parts that do make it seem like generic harem shit to me.
>MC kissing girls
>Generic harem

>Arararagi isn't a social retard, he gets a girlfriend!
this level of delusion. It's amazing how far they go to convince themselves that this crap isn't the usual dude meets a bunch of girls with problems harem crap.

now its time for interesting dialogue about random crap and sexual harassment and its interesting in this show because they show a funny still reaction image! Now its time to explain the plot for 12 min.

>Araragi isn't a social retard
No one said that. It's a plot point that he is a retard even.

see

>that NEETs can easily self-insert into

This is the real golden boy of monogatari

It isn't the usual set-up though. That by itself doesn't mean it's good, to bad the only sort of criticism Sup Forums is ever able to mount on anything is the same old insecure "i-it's overrated!" non-criticism.

>backstory is that he got cucked and is still mad about it 20 years later
>main skill is being able to outwit dumb children
I understand why he's Sup Forums's favorite character in this.

>It's amazing how far they go to convince themselves that this crap isn't the usual dude meets a bunch of girls with problems harem crap.
Because it isn't, Araragi has a personalitty, interests and he's used as a device to develop the others characters unlike your normal harem.

>he's faithful to his waifu
>doesn't give a fuck
>flies first class with money he makes from tricking stupid children
>easily breaks into a middle school girl's room
>comes back from hell to give a highschool girl he's never met a demon's head and beat her in a race
boy it sure is a real head scratcher

>he's faithful to his waifu
He almost got with Gahara until he fucked that up before the events of the series, what are you talking about?

>doesn't give a fuck
That's incorrect too, he's still so upset by it that he refuses to call Kanbaru by her family name because it's her dad's name.

Not saying he isn't likable but he is canonically a pathetic man, that's his character. He's Araragi if Araragi fucked everything up and then ran away from everything.

>He almost got with Gahara
No, He didn't.

The haremtrash parts are much better than the so called plot in it.

>he's faithful to his waifu who chose another man over him
Lets be real here, if it was the protagonist instead of the side-character who had this in his story you guys would be shitting all over this like the contrarian fucks you are.

the set up is irrelevant. all harem crap is a dude meeting a bunch of girls who have problems and then they get solved. That's what you are going to get, and that's what this show is. The criticism is your inability to acknowledge this.

>all harem crap is a dude meeting a bunch of girls who have problems and then they get solved
That isn't even the setup beyond the first season though.

Half the girls Araragi meets aren't even interested in him

senjougahara - his girlfriend
hanekawa - was in love with him for half the series
shinobu - he is her sole reason for everything she does, codependency
kanbaru - constantly makes passes at him, tries to play it off as joking
nadeko - went full yandere over him
hachikuji - clearly into him, clings on to the living world for months because she can spend time with him
karen - brocon, claims to have a boyfriend that is just like him
tsukishi - same as karen
yotsugi - fawns over his body, plays it off as her being into living things since she is a corpse
yozuru - at one point a joke is made about her being accepted into his harem
gaen - can't remember any instance of anything
oikura - feels embarrassed for trying to "seduce" him in the past, overall tone and the op/ed treats her like the childhood friend trope and implies romantic feelings were present at some point
ougi - crated by him, not even a girl since she's an apparition, but several interaction treat her feeling jelaous for him spending time with other characters
Did I forget someone? Arguably almost all of them are in some way treated as harem members or possible ones

Obviously this.

4/13 are love him thats not half get your fact right.

2deep4u, back to your Boruto or whatever shōnentrash general. just kidding
But, seriously... Monogatari is not actually an extremely deep series, it just makes some good puns and references. I enjoy it, but it's understandable why some people might not like it. It is well written for the most part, but has significantly weaker parts like Hanamonogatari and Owarimonogatari Season 1's final arc.

...

OP is right but for wrong reasons.
Actually the animation of the show is very great and artistic.
The problem is the stupid dialogue.

Hanamonogatari was a great look at Kanbaru, though. I think the weakest arc is Tsuhiki Phoenix in Nisemonogatari personally, but I suppose everyone has their preferences.

I wish all harem anime were as generic as monogatari.
Like, the first episode of owari is Araragi and Ougi talking in a closed room for 40 minutes. It's so good.

You know what's oddly understated about Kanbaru? Her eyebrows. They're fucking great.

>dude kani sounds like kami lmao

>being so reductive your post has lost all meaning
Good one, user.

amen brudda

>calls the show too dialogue heavy
nice meme faggot, sorry we don't all have ADD

Nice reading comprehension.

Did you just decide to jump into the series at Owari? Because if not, that's a shit load of "generic" content you've consumed up to that point

>no Kanbaru gf in real life
I wanna suicide

which ones

and what exactly in your post didn't I comprehend?

Can't wait to read Nise

You have to be the previous guy who replied to me. There is no way such a simple post can be misinterpreted this much.

I was not complaining about monogatari at all.

im really amazed that replacing dude is to young and immature to fuck all the girls with dude has a girlfriend is all it takes to trick people into think they aren't watching harem shit.

You can call this show bad but generic is a very inaccurate term to it

>but the one thing I hate about the series is when Arararagi kisses other girls

HOW CAN HE GO AROUND KISSING PEOPLE?

HOW CAN HE KISS?????

>im really amazed that replacing dude is to young and immature to fuck all the girls with dude has a girlfriend is all it takes to trick people into think they aren't watching harem shit.

dostedt?

>The animation is terrible
>Generic haremtrash

You need to watch more animes. But with these pathetic excuses you're probably better off not watching animes

...

This argument falls flats in later season, because all the girls' problems come back and they're the one who end up resolving them for good. Araragi mostly acts like a bandage for the girls, he helps them out in the short run. But as time showed, Kanbaru still had jealousy problems, Hanekawa still had issues at home, Nadeko actually got worse from Araragi's involvement, and so on. It wasn't until the girls faced their demons themselves that their problem were permanently resolve.
