Well sort of, it's a perpetual cycle of the hapless dad getting himself into dangerous jobs involving monsters and the occult.
The comedy is the dad soldiering through each of these crazy jobs with enduring Japanese workaholism, and the protagonist has to convince him to bail out every time.
