I'm thinking he just writes this shit by the seat of his pants, and he decided the tournament would be too boring if Kazuya just won with flute and couldn't contain his boner for Kiriha and so basically made an error in his writing because I think this coming twist is really, really poorly placed and lacking in buildup considering how big of a deal the plot point of Kiriha's death was up to now
