You guys shit on the Higurashi anime too much. Yes. it IS shit if you look at it as an adaptation, but by itself it's pretty cool and entertaining. It leaves you wanting for more.
It cuts off a lot of interesting and actually needed for the plot stuff, yeah, but it also spares you a lot of pretty shitty details. It's almost hilarious but insufferable at the same time how much everyone shits on K1 during Watanagashi for no good reason at all. And even if I know half of the suspicious stuff during Onikakushi were K1's hallucinations I still think his "friends" are being VERY unreasonable. Then it comes Tatarigoroshi. Most of the first half in the novel is unbearable too. And Himatsubushi is actually okay as an adaptation.
The only ones totally destroyed are Meakashi and Tsumihoroboshi. And they're still enjoyable. It's just that the originals are too good.
Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi aren't bad adaptations at all.

The problem is that the second half is rushed far worse. The entire epilogue, which is critical to the plot of Higurashi, is cut short just as it starts.

They somehow manage to be a complete bore in the anime despite being rushed due to the godawful directing. Minagoroshi in particular comes off as just talking mouths until Takano reveals herself to be the culprit, due to it cutting amazing scenes like Keiichi and Rena brawling with the village elders.

The fact that he sneaks around during the most important religious cermemony of the village, during the most tense year yet (4 murders going on 5) they should have kicked his ass for what he did.
He only gets cold stares and then Shion's bullshit from what I remember.

Satoko gets beat up and it drags a little but K1 going insane is a great payoff.
I'll tell you what I don't like about the anime.
It rushes everything so badly it loses any sense of mystery. It's not a slasher or a pure horror story. It's a mystery.
