New BOOGIEPOP PHANTOM Anime From Madhouse Announced For 2018
>they had to hype it up with aoi yuuki being in it or the newfags wouldn't even care
Must prime Boogiepop shrine in full prayer mode.
Holy. I never expected to see this. 2018 is turning out to be alright.
I was supposed to go to sleep. Now its just a rollercoaster of emotions
Shrine is up and running.
Real filthy gaijin hours
Here is the trailer
Might as well get the gravy train rolling
Having a smile that can protect itself.
4/20 (very important!)
>it won't be good
Join in prayer. It doesnt need to be the old flavour... that would be too much to ask... just let it be good ;_;
Trust no one. Not even your paranoia.
The only figure i would ever own. Too bad only one was made.
what the fuck was the original boogiepop phantom about?
chill Nagi has chill day
Its kind of not episodic where a lot of stories are told within the stories of stories. The narrative is not always said but is always felt. The time frames are as wild as they get yet you are never left empty handed. Its the kind of show I watch for the 6th time and its different every time.
It did seem like a mess at the time. Never got to finish it because my parents wanted to watch tv when tech tv's lineup was on
Hey it's that show that made me get checked for glaucoma
I love her clothes and hat. More anime characters should be that stylish
Really looking forwards to this. It's just a shame that the first few volumes don't really go in depth about Touka / Boogiepop. It's much later when her backstory starts getting covered and even much much later (like novel 18 or so) when the series starts to actually focus on Touka properly.
21/20 cause thats how this show rolls
Stay woke & lets hope to live in a dimension where Lain and Boogiepop get what they deserve.
Ive only read the seven seas translations. Are the rest translated?
Nah. I hope Seven Seas or someone else will continue to to translate the rest someday. The novel is still getting published. Boogiepop Beautiful, the latest volume, will be out next month I think.
Just ripped this picture. Its bad quality everywhere.
we literally had like three threads about it, just stop
You know they won't get the atmosphere right like in the other one
Fuck off retard.
I like it tho.
So Boogiepop is basically this bitch's chuuni cosplay, I see.
I am now convinced that there are anime production shills here on Sup Forums
There is no other reason why we've been having Boogiepop threads pop up recently. It was just to get our minds on Boogiepop, and now we're going to be excited about this. Well good job guys because it worked for me.
Frankly its my opinion that 85% of the arts, the mangas and even the novels dont do the anime justice. Concept sketches are mad good tho.
Time to watch original, I guess?
it's going to be trash
No idea what this is, but looks good. Nice music, too.
Let's see. The original anime gave us a dark Boogiepop that actually lived up to her shinigami fame while all the LN has to offer is a chuuni girl in a silly cape. It's quite the downgrade.
Dont be like that, I cant be on 24/7 I owe this show at least this much. At least everyone can get some rare boogiepop pics in this thread
so is it going to be an adaptation of Boogiepop and Others?
Mostly, but some user said the pv shows stuff from other volumes too.
why has god forsaken us
Will I finally understand it?
The heavy filters are kinda putting me off, especially with how Violet Evergarden ended up.
My wife Aoi!
I wonder what Takeda would think about his girlfriend running around the city in a silly costume fighting monster and murderers.
I mean, he knows she's boogiepop, but I don't think he knows what she does at night for real.
Making realistic designs like they did with the original would be asking too much, and the new designs are not THAT bad.
Kinda ironic, considering how heavily filtered was original.
See thats the thing thats important for 2000 Boogiepop. A CRT monitor! People who've seen 1995 GITS, EVA or Cowboy Bebop would know the kind of miracles that happen on one of those. Combined with realism and them clinical filters and urbanism is whats up.
Now I kind of want to see the original series, but how much'd spoil me the new season?
You ain't tricking me into going backwards, devil.
It was a pain in the ass reading subs on those. And I sure as hell ain't watching dub.
Somebody link Boogiepop Phantom OP
GITS, Eva and Bebop are all a million times better in HD because they're cel animated though. They were drawn crystal clear on the cels themselves, the image quality was just reduced for the shows themselves due to the limitations of the time. When you watch in HD, you're watching what the animators were actually drawing.
AYYY ITS HERE!
I really wouldnt know about eva and gits HD but i have compared 720p bebop to the crt variant and while both are amazing CRT just has that little bit of foil on top like you were ment to see it today. Kind of like a more centric focus. Especially neon reds, they have this bloodshot color. Boogiepop aint got no HD game... sadly.
Its only worth it if you have one lying around. Those fuckers are heavy and uncomfortable but they do work out when need be.
Can someone give me a TL;DR on Boogiepop? I watched the show when I first started watching anime, because it reminded me of Lain. But I still dont know what it was about and if I actually liked it.
Is there much mc in series at all?
Or it's just somewhat interconnected stories with title character showing up in them in one or another way being told from perspectives of others? Kinda like paranoia agent.
I am cautiously optimistic. I mean, I was hyped when new Kino was announced, but it failed to live up to the Original in every way. It was just meh. Let's hope this doesn't turn out like Kino did.
Phantom is a side-story that happens after the first LN, which is why it's particularly confusing if you haven't read that (or seen the film or read the manga). The new show looks like it will adapt that novel, and probably others.
Anime has entered the era of western style reboot of a reboot of a reboot
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
What do you even mean by that?
Man, I kinda got weirded out back then and never really watched beyond a few episodes back when it was new.
Maybe I should read the LN in preparation this time.
Why do they even put Touka in the cover? She barely appears in Boogiepop Phantom.
Explain how adapting something that has never been adapted before considered a reboot.
There was a live action film.
That user is still a fag though.
technically around half of the characters are mc in the anime. The perspective is ever changing but the context is always there and heavy without really being explained much.
the novels dont really help much... they are shabby. Its the kind of show that told the artist let us use your names and images and we will make magic happen.
I think Touka got a fair representation in the anime. At the end of the day she has to be the most low profile kid she can be.
>Can someone give me a TL;DR on Boogiepop?
Boogiepop is about supernatural crap happening around the city as a result of aliens and a mysterious organization using alien's dna to create super humans. Boogiepop is an alternative personality of a seemingly normal highschool girl called Touka Miyashita (or something supernatural possessing her, it's ambiguous). Boogiepop manifests in Touka whenever something dangerous threatens the city. There are others characters who are in the know and try to investigate what's going on and such.
The format of the story is generally some people getting involved into shit too big for them to deal with, and when it things everything's going to shit, Boogiepop shows up to save the day.
Although Boogiepop's the titular character and protagonist of sort, most the time we follow other characters' point of view.
Am I the only one legitimately worried about collecting new merch, artwork and whatnots?
Okay, that kinda makes sense. Maybe I should rewatch the show after this new one airs?
All I remember from the old show was:
>Funky opening theme
>Catchy ending theme
>Weird filter over all the episodes
>Weird static and noises
>Guy eating sad spiders
>One guy doing some red drugs and messing around with a computer.
>Piano girl suicide.
>A girl who was not allowed to leave the house.
>Some kid with baloons.
>Final episode looking kinda normal.
And thats about it.
Being familiar with Boogiepop and Others helps a lot by giving context to what's happening. Even if the events aren't massively relevant, Phantom's style makes it hard to follow and that context helps a lot.
>Maybe I should rewatch the show after this new one airs?
Yeah. It would probably help to understand the old anime.
I sort of feel you on that one. I just cant help but be devoured by the atmosphere and tension the show constantly generates. At the end of the day i sort of feel better the less i can recall from it while experiencing it fully.
Its like every time you watch it you realize you've missed a few pieces of the puzzle. I wouldnt really go as far as to say you need to know all of it since the show runs on instinct. There is however a 28 page world doc where a guy chronologically explains everything that ever was and is(including anime and novels).
I have read it but i'd imagine it would really drain the soul out from it from some one who didnt understand it anyway.
Anyone else thinks they're gonna remove Touka's boyfriend from the anime? You know, to keep waifufags happy.
Tell me about Boogiepop, why doesn't she laugh?
Because supernatural stuff is no laughing matter.
Cool. Boogiepop was one of my favorite shows, along side Texhnolyze, Kino's journey (2003), serial experiments Lain and Haibane renmei.
Man that guy isnt really part of anything. Lets assume he isnt going to be there since he wasnt in the 2000 show and it worked out just perfect.
On the other hand i really like Kirima Nagi In a very platonic way
I'm kinda suprised you haven't finished yourself off with that list due to depression.
I dunno, last time I watched it I felt I understood pretty much everything that was going on, and I enjoyed it all the more that way.
I do think you could kill the atmosphere if you try to go through it slowly and piece things together that way. But I think that'd be pretty hopeless anyway.
Put it this way: it think it helps the show to know who Echoes is, despite the fact that he only shows up for a few frames and in Snake Eye's monologue.
