It's just the Gundam trilogy. I'd say you gain more than you miss out on by watching it. That, and you will have to watch the movies after watching the series anyway, so either way you'll have to see the movies. I'd say the movies are better because it's essentially cutting down a lot of stuff that Tomino didn't even want to put in Gundam anyway, so if anything you're seeing a more linear version of the director's vision.

The first one is honestly a worse experience than the series in my opinion, far too rushed, Soldiers of Sorrw and the part of the series it covers are mostly interchangeable and Encounters in Space is a straight upgrade over the final part, even if it forgets the Gyan.

The best way to realize just how bad 08th MS Team and 0083 are is watching the series in chronological order. You get to watch Apsalus roll out before Big Zam is ever deployed with five times the fire power that doesn't overheat and took a GM Sniper using a rifle that was deployed in 0081 in the MSVs it was designed for time traveling to 0079 right after White Base left Jaburo. And then you get to watch the Titans grand scheme unfold to take over the Federation, only you have no idea who the Titans are and why the guy with glasses is so important in 0083 because he isn't actually a character in 0083, he's just shown so you know it was a Titans plot. You also get to watch tech more advanced than anything until F91 appear in 0083.
