>Im pretty new to anime, so please dont be too harsh on me.
It's one of these moments when you throw Lain, Haibane Renmei, Texnolyze and Eva in your 3x3 just to fit in but realise years after that they are truly the best
This but unironically
normalfag tastes, I know
>just to fit in
But I didn't do that. Those were the shows that I liked the most.
>top left
PUT YOR GRASSES ON, NASENG WIU BE RONG
Well, hope so. They are all very good. Texnolyze is my favorite
replace steins gate and the entire bottom row with something and it's good
But I really like those shows even if I realize they're kinda dumb
>steins gate
Watch some more sci-fi anime, won't do recs, just lurk yourself
>your lie in april
Watch Koe no Katachi, it's mediocre but it's still better than shigatsu wa kimi no uso
>Gurren Lagann
Ok actually the entire board has it in their 3x3 for some reason
>Kill la Kill
How can you even like Kill la Kill after watching Gurren Lagann? Fucking hate this show
>How can you even like Kill la Kill
I really enjoyed the first half
Do people intentionally exclude better shows from their 3x3's for some reason? To use the most popular example, Eva is definitely better than the vast majority of shows listed in the majority of these 3x3's. I just don't get the need to be contrarian.
I agree to some extent. But in threads that are used for discussing each other's tastes people that don't circlejerk the same shit are not wanted. If everyone had a 3x3 consisting only of, I don't fucking know, Eva, Monster, Lain and whatever it would be like
>Nice, you like Eva, EoE was good
>Yes, I agree
>Yes
every time. Would be boring
Shitposting aside, arguing that something is "better" in regards to 3x3's which contain what people like is missing the point.
As long as people get that then that's fine. It's more interesting this way.
bump
First, you're working from the incorrect assumption people are able to discern for themselves what is or isn't artistically successful. This is not the case, and most people have absolutely no taste or sensibilities.
Second, people prefer things for reasons other than artistic/technical merit, so there's no reason to make your 3x3 a shortlist of the nine most influential or critically successful anime ever released.

Very cerebral stuff there.
8/8, although Yoru wa Mijikashi is probably Yuasa's weakest for me aside from Crybaby.
>just finished my ninth anime
All the shows you like look the exact fucking same.
>8/8
Which one you haven't watched?
>although Yoru wa Mijikashi is probably Yuasa's weakest for me aside from Crybaby.
Kaiba and Kemonozume are shit, haven't watched Crybaby
And Perfect Blue is Satoshi Kon's worst work for me
I haven't seen Ruroni Kenshin. Kemonozume is easily my favorite Yuasa show. This is too much conflict for me.
Although, I do agree that Kaiba is a bit of a mess. Still decent I suppose. Don't bother with Crybaby unless you've read Devilman and seen the OVAs and just really want more. It was a huge letdown.
>Perfect Blue is Satoshi Kon's worst work for me
Perfect Blue is a masterpiece. Tokyo Godfathers and Paprika aren't even good movies.

2nd are 4/5
3rd are 3.5/5
No Perfect Blue but Paprika, Millennium Actress AND Tokyo Godfathers? Fake and lame as fuck.
What's top left and top right?
Top left is definitely Dallos, an incredibly boring OVA from Mamoru Oshii.
Top right is High School Fleet
If I recall correctly, I stopped watching Perfect Blue at the gangrape scene because of how edgy it felt.
Paprika is possibly the best "post-modern" anything.
Millennium Actress is a ride and a decent love story.
Bottom row is mainly there because it didn't do anything wrong and looks good.
You should consider watching Perfect Blue again. I don't like it more than Millennium Actress, but it's a beautiful thriller.
>Paprika is possibly the best "post-modern" anything.
You're a moron.
3/5
5/7
2/3
5/8 Your Lie in April is garbage
3/3 but Paprika over Perfect Blue is a bad decision
I like how it ties into the themes of dreams and reality vs imagination. Aside from being great to look at, those cuts and cinema scenes and pop references are actually in-context.
Not the person you're replying to, but did Paprika not feel like a retread of sorts of Millennium Actress but worse? To me, it seems like a flashier but less dense version
Paprika's post-modernism is incredibly shallow. Read some of Haruki Murakami and David Foster Wallace's novels if you want to see someone really tackle post-modernism. Even Mind Game and Millennium Actress are more successful as postmodern art than Paprika.
>Hunter x Hunter (2011)

HxH is a horrible manga and anime. Congrats on being part of the lowest common denominator of anime fan.

man...I really want to see ping pong club. have you seen great teacher onizuka?

1/1
My point is that the form fits the themes. A story about dreams is better fit to post-modernism than a love story.
I've only read a few short-stories of his, but Murakami reeks of hack. Meanwhile IJ was a 4/5 for me, and that's in part because I had to google the ending.
>Paprika's post-modernism is incredibly shallow.
This is interesting though. Care to elaborate? What distinguishes shallow from non-shallow post-modernism, for you?
Robotech? Disgusting.
HxH is great, you have garbage taste.
Fuck off accell
>is better fit to post-modernism
Nonsense.
>Murakami reeks of hack
What a vapid statement. Read Hard-Boiled Wonderland and Norwegian Wood, they're incredible.
Paprika's post-modernism basically just poses a question about the relationship between reality and dreams. What does it actually say about that relationship? Nothing, to be honest. Even the portrayal of the dreaming mind is based on a bunch of cliche "wacky dream" imagery and conceits like cinema which Kon used to better effect in Millennium Actress.
Unironically, the worst 3x3 I've ever seen.
The manga is a wall of text with cliche characters and horrible art.
The anime is full of lengthy dialogue exposition for nonsense power systems which aren't even consistent to their own imaginary limitations. The 2011 version has hideous art and animation, and terrible character design. You literally just like it because there is some edgy shit, and you have no standards for visuals.
Golden Boy, Nana, and Akira are all pretty good, though.
Even in this thread, these are much worse:
The 2011 anime has excellent visuals and Nen is a great power system. I somewhat agree about the manga being a wall of text though. I think Mad House took a flawed manga and turned it into a great anime.
Not him, but Golden Boy was very meh
I agree, it has good animation but I didn't laugh that much, I always thought people calling it hilarious was a meme
>The 2011 anime has excellent visuals
Are you kidding me? It's a slideshow with horrible artwork.
>Nen is a great power system
If by "great" you mean inconsistent edgelord bullshit, then sure.
You seem really mad that people like HxH, did Togashi fuck your mom or something?
Watch some real anime.
Not him but just fucking stop, I'm not defending HxH but just stop
>not him
Sure, pal.
What do you classify as "real anime"?
K-On, Haruhi Suzumiya and Azumanga
I agree with this, but unironically.
>Nonsense.
It's true as in structure isn't non-linear in both post-modernism and dreams.
>What a vapid statement
Just like any statement about anything anyone hasn't a great knowledge of. I might check out Norwegian Wood.
>just poses a question
To me it felt more like play between the two. I wasn't in it to learn something deep and true about the thing; it was style over substance, and I really enjoyed the style.
Do you have a 3x3?
Lupin III
Haruhi is well directed and has great production values. I can't stand the writing, though. Azumanga is a great manga, with a mediocre anime adaptation that has aged poorly due to being caught up in the difficult early transition to digital cels.
K-on is fucking great.
>Lupin III

Perfect Blue is great. Not as good as Millennium Actress, but still good. The ending is a copout, though.
Pretty boring taste.

Good man
9/9
Is Dororo subbed in English?
Tell me everything in the top row?
Not him, but that's Devilman, Goshogun, and Golgo 13.
>Ace Attorney
If this is a joke, I don't get it
Goshogun: Time Etranger, in particular. I have never seen the series.
It's clearly Wicked City, and I don't think anyone has seen anything GoShogun related outside of Time Etranger.
It's definitely not Wicked City, and the series of Goshogun has actually been subbed now.
First point is wrong. Second point is irrelevant because people love Eva far a host of reasons.
Pretty sweet.
>It's clearly Wicked City
Nope, that is art for Time Etranger.
Eva has major pacing problems, lots of plot contrivances, and a train wreck ending that had to be fixed( and was) by EoE - it is a good show, but there are plenty of reasons not to put it on a 3x3. Plus some people may just not be drawn in by the characters, themes, and aesthetic in general, so even if they thought it was masterfully constructed it wouldn't belong on their 3x3.
