Aren't figures one major source of income for companies that make animes?
I would guess that for shows like Gundam, most of the profit comes from the plastic toys.
So I wonder, how KyoAni manages to survive without selling any figure, statue, toy?

When absolutely dogshit trash like Musaigen no Phantom World can sell 2,191 BD average you know that Kyoani is basically invincible (in comparison Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei, which was trash too but nowhere near as bad as Phantom World sold 1,189). They have too big of a fanbase and too much of a reputation to fail.
If you really think that the majority of Veg shitposters loves Kyoani you are really dumb. Veg its one of the worst Kyoani shows only compared with Munto, Air or PW.

Not for most shows. Figurines are big source for say Card Captor Sakura this season, while even for Franxx with their mecha rather minor. It depends much on if toys makers like Bandai are on production commities in first place - so nothing else earns as much on toy merch as Toei/Sunrise stuff, not even near.
Most figurines you see don't actually directly contribute much to studios - either the producers buy license for them, or even without it releasing "unofficial" limited, custom made etc. series. (let alone China making millions of pirated cheaper versions).
KyoAni sells plenty of merch via artbooks, posters, stationary etc. through their shop and on events it regularly post. For VEG notable contributions would be artbooks/starterpack that are sold in Animate and other shops.
If any company makes KyoAni figurines, it still not major source of income for them as at best KyoAni gets paid for permission. And in general, studios dont get those profits - toy makers/distributors do if they are in production commity in return to their investment in anime production.
It is nothing huge like that. In fact, none of anime that isnt shounen/child shows/gundam earns that much from merchandize. This season only Card Captor Sakura has decent merch revenue, and not for anime but just because of power of franchize and variety of toys for kids.
If you see chart showing merchandize revenus in billions and trumping BD sales, you have to consider that 95% of that number is attributed to Bandai Namko, Good Smiler Comopany etc.
Also Good Smile and few others seem to be boycotting KyoAni, as KyoAni ventures in a market as their competitor (albeit very small one)
