It is light weight and is very very hard to stab through. You can wear it under leather armor easily. Cheaper and more maneuverable than plate mail. To put it in easier terms chain is good vs stabbing, leather good vs blunt attacks to an extent and plate mail good vs both but harder to come by and less maneuverable.

This is besides a slew of other problems that plate mail has but that doesn't mean chain is just better. Also I meant to say chain is more resilient to slashing motions. With a good enough stab from a large enough blade you can stab through it and with a small enough blade it can be avoided.

This is false, when it comes to chainmail what you want is a sword with a thin enough blade to be able to single out a single loop of the mail so it can be then split apart, similar to how one breaks a chain.

Nice meme, it all drapes on your shoulders so they fucking suck for comfort. Not more maneuverable either for this reason because it doesn't distribute weight like properly fitted plate does and swings around. And don't call plate "plate mail". A lot of people still wear some beneath their plate but stuff like brigandine for under layer is more comfortable.
