It shifted to monthly seinen 4 volumes in so he wasn’t confined to 20 pages a chapter which let him experiment with pacing and the pages were bigger so he could be more detailed. He felt like Stone Ocean was the absolute pinnacle of what he could do in the weekly shonen format and he was very happy with how it turned out but if he wanted to improve from there he had to drastically change something about his production method.

SBR wasn't a JoJo part at first.
It was going to be a totally different franchise, but he changed it into a new JoJo part after he had already started. In my opinion, it gave SBR a much more firm foundation since he wasn't tied down by making it fit into JoJo and connect to the previous parts.
