There's a lot depending on how vague you want to use the term 'anime' with. If we include various japanese games shit gets utterly ridiculous.

Not surprising then that they'd do the human thing and corrupt even their own dimension (the dimension *itself* is now Bydo) until they spilled out into the past (and everywhere else along the 26th dimensional way) - even the 2d 'information layer' null-space between realities is infested with them now.
There's two timeloops protecting their creation; the one you mention where it's intended as a weapon against other civilizations, but *also* the "original" beginning of them which is when Bydo who'd been wandering lost found wiped out all military capabilities in the system they came across - and then just left (before getting lost in a dimensional sinkhole and emerging to make a beeline for Sol).
Bydo themselves are what caused humanity to originally cross the godzilla-threshold and decide this wasn't a bad idea to make them in the first place because their enemies were just that horrible.
Plus Humanity probably counts in that setting for OP anyways: the basic mass-produced mook-fighter can crack a continent with its main gun, and cruisers have deathstar-style planet-busting capability but can't use it in a fast battle because it takes like an hour to charge that much. Annihilation Platform Moritz-G was an even more compact planet-buster that got infected, it fits on a 2-lane freeway.

The Ravagers use hordes of Giant Insects to lay waste to worlds rather effectively. The whole thing's an outside-context problem for most civilizations it would encounter. Even slightly-future sci-fi Earth got pretty fucked up globally, and mostly fought it off by sheer number of suicide-runs
