I think it's being hijacked by tangental material, which would be quite a bit more interesting with a bit more thought.

The choice of baseline and word is wrong: It should be a common word that should have no emotional connection to a "properly maintained" mind.

The choice of "Cells" and "Interlinked" are both very clinical terms that tie into the two significant modes of failure: Awareness of self (I am treated as property) and awareness of others (I desire contact)

Which is why the Cell questions are about being jailed, imprisoned or stored, while the Interlinked questions are about holding hands, forming bonds and sex.

From the convo near the end of the episode between the haz-mat techs, it seems they're referring to a specific infection that they've intentionally given the parasites for the purpose of operating the Franxx.

This ep was better because it started o explore hidden society and prove that not everyone are robots or something. Episodes 6-9 were definite garbage though.
