Hell, she was still into him after episode 15. Shinji is unintentionally one of the biggest factors in her downfall because he unknowingly rejects her.
Perhaps the most infuriating part of their relationship is that Shinji is into her too and just has no idea how to communicate that to Asuka or is afraid to tell Asuka how he feels. Probably both.
