This was the scene that hooked me on anime and manga years and years ago. I watched it in the anime first.
Anime was a mistake. The ending was hideous, and I'm really glad I read the manga. It contains one of the most impactful scenes I've ever witnessed.

The manga is nothing but powerlevel nonsense for the last 100 chapters.

Apart from the ending which was garbage. The bull with Rafaela hunting Irene made no sense without any backstory.

I ended up watching it with those two scenes in mind so they weren't as impactful (unfortunately).
I guess "that" scene for me ended up becoming what happens to the Cool Boss dude's secretary.

I've shown Utena to multiple people and this scene is always a great one to see their reaction. The one that REALLY throws people off is when Anthy's coffin falls and her and Utena's hands separate.
One of the best finales to anything I've ever seen.
You're lucky they even finished it. The few times I tried having some of my few friends to watch it, they found it too odd for them.

your right in that as an individual scene it isnt the best in the series but the scene in the context of the episode is one of the best if not the best
really near the end the scenes are kind of expected and are inevitable but the summer festival scene comes out of nowhere in the middle of the season and completely changes the tone of the entire show

yeah the kanata sequence is a crazy in that there no build up yet the show has had it exist as a concept since near the start, whats more crazy is that the episode starts normally then goes off on that then theres a quick mildly entertaining scene that had nothing to do with what just happened at the end
