So I finally finished off FT Zero last night and with that, the entire series. Watched the entire fucking show over the course of like a month. The Tarturos arc jumped around a bit with the time and was kind of egregious with repeating the ending of the previous episode in the first 10 minutes of the new one but I still enjoyed it. Kind of felt a bit like a slog though to be honest. Probably one of their weaker arcs.
Magic Games and Eclipse Gate is def the best arc. And all the other arcs weren't bad either. Honestly loved all the character development everyone got. Juvia is best girl by far. Erza is close 2nd. Cana is 3rd. It's not ground breaking but it definitely doesn't deserve the shit it gets. Is Sup Forums just retarded? It's better then Dragon Ball Z, Super and Naruto. You're all just a bunch of fucking liars.

I finished the manga and almost teared up at the end, but I had to drop the anime. I like the way the series ended and you're right, grand magic games is definitely the best arc.

I don't have a problem with people not dying, I'm ok with that, the real problem is Mashima putting characters in deathly situations(or actually killing them) just for them to get revived in the next chapter, and also, Erza winning fights just because "she is Erza" is pretty bad too, I won't even mention the impossible shit Natsu did in the last arc, just wait for it to get animated if you prefer to not read the manga and pray for the anime staff to fix all the problems the last arc had.

I mean, all characters win their fights because "it's that specific character". None of the victories ever felt unearned. Aside from the horrible pacing of the last arc, pretty much each character gets the shit beat out of em by their opponent until the find the strength to win. Erza isn't an exception. Plus, I don't care too much if the fights are fun. Besides, Erza has lost several times. She was out of commission for most of the Nirvana arc because she was poisoned.
I was also watching the dub, which I kind of grew tired of, but I felt I got more out of the manga than I did the show. One way or another, you should definitely finish it. The last arc gets pretty intense

I was cool with Erza winning because "she is Erza" till the Tartaros Arc, then she won her battle against Kyouka, which should've been impossible for her, I could buy it If she actually had help from other members of Fairy Tail, but she managed to do that alone, which was in my opinion stupid, but regardless of that, I still enjoyed the Tartaros Arc, It was on the last arc that it reay left a bitter taste on my mouth, Erza defeating Irene,someone who can actually destroy countries or even a continent, when all the bones in her body,except her arm, are broken. Even with Wendy's and Makarov's help it still should've been impossible for her to defeat Irene. If you enjoyed the arc then I'm glad for you user and it's okay If you disagree with me, but that's how I feel about these things and I really hope that the anime team will be able to fix some of the problems this arc had, that way the arc can be at least fun to watch.

It's not that kind of show.
It's more the characters deep emotional state. Gray fighting his father, remembering Ur sacrificing herself to stop Deliora, Lucy never saying goodbye to her father, Juvia loving Gray and feeling conflicted about ending his father's existence, Aquarious sacrificing herself for Lucy when she hated her for most of the series, etc. Shit like that is what made me emotional. Characters don't have to die for there to be development.
I get that this show is literally "friendship wins in the end" and shit, but maybe I've been watching to much Game of Thrones and kept expecting any and every character to get killed.

Some side characters do get sacrificed. The village elder in the Nirvana arc, Ur's daughter sacrificing her life to buy everyone an extra minute, Ur sealing away Deliora, Imitation telling Lucy how much she means to her before she turns back into a doll, Aquarious giving up her key to save Lucy to summon the Celestial King. That shit was emotional to me. I felt a little warmer in my heart watching that.
I don't think it's that. Personally, I've been watching a lot of shit where any character, no matter how important they are to the story can die at any time. One of my favorite examples of this is with MSG: IBO, especially in the second season. As well as with series outside of anime like Star Wars and Game of Thrones.

the only other gundam I watched was mobile fighter g so I wouldn't really know. What I liked about IBO was that, especially in the first season, it felt almost like a real war was being waged and that the mobile suits were treated more so as tools. Though there are some serious asspulls that only work because of "muh MC/special Gundam." But I thoroughly enjoyed it, both dubbed and subbed, and the mobile suit designs, IMO, are really freaking cool and I even got a few kits from the show.

Yep. The first arc has a perfect blend of everything the encompasses the show. If you enjoy the first arc, I think your gonna really like the show. I know I did. The characters really hooked me and going into their motivations and making me care from the jump was what got me to keep watching. I was watching for the characters.
I enjoy SoL for that reason as well. But some shonens like FT give me a good balance of fun character interactions, exciting action, and the emotional dept these characters have that makes me actually give a shit about them. Which makes the show more enjoyable to watch and increases my emotional investment.

I think Lucy isn't shit, she's just way less compelling then Erza or Juvia. She gets better when you get into her daddy issues though. Fake out deaths aren't a big deal because like I said above, you shouldn't be expecting MC deaths. But plenty of side characters do bite the dust and usually in pretty emotional ways. Finally, why do you need doujin when the manga is practically it's own best fanart with how lewd the girls are?
Universe isn't really random. The first arc pretty much sets up the world and the characters places within it. I think villians have clear motivations and shows that most aren't truly evil but have some underlying trauma. Leon in the first arc sets up what to expect perfectly; he seems like the bad guy because he wants to release the demon but it's so he can kill it to prove he surpassed his master. It takes Gray to stop him from living in the past. Nobody is ever evil just to be evil, which WOULD be the most tropey shit possible. DB is way more guilty of that shit then FT. How the hell are the characters bland? They have quirks like any character in any anime/manga series ever. At least FT explains why they have those quirks, such as why Gray is always winding up half naked. Fuck they explain it in the first fucking arc! I find great comfiness in seeing interesting characters overcoming their hang ups and challenges together because they are so close their practically family. Idk, I think FT's message of the guild being family and Makarov calling everyone his children just really hit home for me.

I actually felt like Konosuba's girls were similar to a lot of FT's girls, except that in FT the characters had more depth to them so then could become more then just "quirky" and could also do serious or emotional scenes and have it feel meaningful.
There aren't too many scenes I can think of where it's slapstick for it's own sake, but even if it was that doesn't make it bad. I'm comparing it to the more well known anime because that's what's popular on this board. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of Sup Forums. Quartet is about a city where yokai live alongside humans, MC is from a temple and has the ability to conjure bad yokais back home and works with the heroine (who is the mayor) to protect the city. It has cool action, good direction, nice sound design, and the girls are hot and cute.

Problem with this series, it's doesn't go all the way in trying to convey it's freedom in expressing it's passionate limits in how sexual, intense and entertaining it can get. It comes off as trying to play by the rules to sell more to kids than become a series where it can truly break out In being itself than some commercial shonen like One Piece.
