Episode 4. But that made more sense in episode 9. Very few problems.

I am not even shitposting.
Serious question from my side.
I am watching it right now. 3 episodes in and I dont get the hate on Sup Forums about it.

Do you actually want to know why I hate it or is this a "it's not so bad guys" post?

Yes I want to know why the hate.
3 EPs in and I like the story premise.

I'm 3 episodes in and can't stand the mc

So people hate Violet herself?
I wouldnt say she is bad but its bearable.

Slow pacing, not justified by depth of plot or atmosphere.
Animation quality hidden behind excessive filtering.
Simplistic and sentimental story line.

Mind you, I don't hate it and I didn't drop it. But there are at least 5 shows airing this season with much worse animation quality that I enjoy a LOT more.

>pic related for the very kissable lips of best girl.

Nah, that's just me. I find her robot dynamic, and sudden bursts of emotion kind of off putting. Maybe i'm a pleb

Too much forced drama. Not enough action.

People expected it to be crap
And it turned out to be crap

Absolutely nothing and I hope you're excited for the movies.

The first 4 episodes of VEG is pretty weak compared to the rest. It's not everyones cup of tea.

Episodes 1-4 were shit, then 6-11 were shit too.

>m-maste... major stop beating me p-please i won't spill choccy milk anymore

I hate it because it's an okay premise ruined by sloppy shitty writing and possibly storyboarding/direction. It's obvious that the structure should be like an anthology of short stories Violet interacts with that heal what a broken person she is, where her job gives her an excuse to get involved with the intimate details of someone's life.

The problem is that those stories are all terrible, don't drive her characterization so there's the story is missing the lynchpin, and the setting is just stupid to me. Half of the time she isn't actually ghostwriting, she's doing odd jobs related to a typewriter. The biggest change in her character when she goes from incompetent to competent happens offscreen and is completely glossed over with a timeskip. The stories themselves aren't interesting to me. You know that all of the characters are throwaway, the arcs either don't exist or are super compressed, and Violet doesn't actually learn from them.

All of the "sad" stories really piss me off. There's nothing to get invested in and the circumstances are so outlandish that I can't believe in them, and since the characters are so shallow, all they can do is sensationalize the scenario to try to make you tear up. Watching it analytically makes these scenarios completely fall apart, like the later episode with the playwright and his dead daughter.

The whole thing is like if a chuuni retard tried to write a slow and smart series of short stories around a central character. You can see what they're going for, but then they throw in stupid bullshit like her jumping out of a plane in a dress and dispatching a handful of armed soldiers who just stare at her like idiots.

Nothing it's great, but 4th episode is shit.

Okay. I like slower pacing. You have time to think. Make your decisions.
Plot until EP3 is just basic world after war stuff. This kinda follows what happend after our world wars.
And I thought that my copy of the anime was just shit. So the extreme glint and shine on everything is normal?

A childsoldier in africa isnt much different. You have to expect devoided emotions from a person like that.

>action
In a show with that premise. You sure user?

So EP5 is good? Okay.

starting from Ep 5, it starts to pick up. 7-11 is much better than 1-4

1 is promising.
2-4 are mediocre at best.
5-9 are just lame.
10 is good.

How can anyone ever compete?

Stalkers thread says VEG went so well that Franxxfags are seething right now.

Attached: Ishihara-KyotoAnimation.jpg (360x360, 19K)

For a world just after a world war its okay writing.
The time after war shows the people at their greatest suffer.
The primary focus of the show is to see Violet change and learn
its more the journey to be a human after war.
What I see right now is a series with content to fill 100 episodes but a pacing forced into 11.
I wouldnt even go as far as to call the show slow and smart.
Its average maybe good in some aspects.
And yes the sad parts are overdramatic and over emphasized and I only watched 3 EPs.

Wait until you get to the episode with the princess getting married, that's what made me drop it.

Why do people always bring up Franxx in "muh sales" arguments? It's a 2-cour original show by a studio that isn't known for doing second seasons. Whether it sells well or not the story's going to be over once its over.

Because VEGfags are underage and can only comprehend simple rankings.

Copypasta is best pasta.
Nobody can compete against best pasta.

I didnt watch Franxx. I am on a one season delay right now.
Whats Franxx about?
Why do I have the feeling that this show is pure porn material?

I'm sorry for doubting you Ishidate!

>You can't honestly expect Violet to be a common incident in their world, gods are horny but they're not that horny. Regardless, another superhuman shows up in the finale and wrecks her shit at the cost of being left defenseless.
The thing is there is no mention, yes, no mention about it whatsoever during the series. If people know that Gods can walk among men, they would at least suspect that Violet has a relation to the gods. Hell, even the military guys who know how good she is at fighting doesn't leave a clue. The god setting does not seep into other settings and seems to be a standalone thing, which is a bad writing.
>There's also an episode where a bunch of autists sit down to watch a comet related to a god in their world, just because people aren't praying like muslims doesn't mean their world is not religious.
That is not religious manifestation. I can celebrate Christmas but I don't have to be a Christian. Hell, I can go to the Zoroastrian fire ceremony without believing in Zoroaster. The comet is a rare sight where everyone wanted to see solely because it is rare. It is like a sighting more than anything. If it has religious connotation at all, it would at least has a ceremony attached to it, no matter how small the ceremony is. Also the daily lives of everyone are very irreligious. Nobody did anything religious, went to a religious meeting or even showing sign of faith.
>Her arms are also not the most advanced tech in their world, the very profession Violet has was named after a machine far more advanced. Yes the tech is all over the place and this is nothing new in such steampunk settings.
What this differs from steampunk is that the only unique technology we see is on Violet's arm.

Wait, I thought Ishihara was involved in the project too? I know that Ishidate is the head of the project (hence his name in the pasta).

It's easily the most boring and hollow show ever made.

Ishihara has nothing to do with this project.

Who else is in the project? It is odd if I use Ishidate's photo for the pasta due to a sentence that mentioned him in the pasta.

Fujita is series director

Slow pacing isn't something that needs to be 'justified'. Slow pacing is not inherently bad, it's something that either fits the show or it doesn't, but by itself it's just another neutral description of the show. You might like or dislike shows with slow pacing, but that's subjective. A show doesn't have to justify being slow paced, it's you who has to justify watching a slow paced show if you typically don't like them.

I like everything about this show except Violet.

Thanks, will use it for the next pasta.

you wot

Violet is like an oddity in that world.

Why would they mention it if demigods are monsters that hide to avoid persecution or worship?
Violet in particular is a notorious monster for the things she did during the war. Even the LN took its time before introducing us to demigods and when it does it reveals that they're hunted down.
Not explaining every detail of a setting is not bad writing when many things are best left in the hazy zone, nor is shifting the focus for an adaptation.

Astrologers != everyone. There is a mention of gods in the anime, they really don't have to show anything religious beyond that and waste time doing so unless it's relevant to the plot; Not even Violet's nature is relevant enough to her story.
If there are gods, there are religions and cults. Humans are like that, the viewer should be smart enough to make this connection without being shown some ritual.

The original AMD also differ from it.

>the very profession Violet has was named after a machine far more advanced
I realise you're quoting someone else, but what? The explanation in episode 2 is that a guy invented a typewriter for his blind wife who could no longer write normally. There is not a more advance machine involved.

>Even the LN took its time before introducing us to demigods and when it does it reveals that they're hunted down.
Which means humans know about their existence. However not even a word is mentioned in the anime at any way. Not a single person, not even the ones that saw Violet's combat skills, including Gilbert and Claudia, ever make the connection between her and the gods. Either all the characters are retarded or this is just bad writing.

>There is a mention of gods in the anime
One, fucking one, and it is in a mythology, which would not qualify as a religion.

>If there are gods, there are religions and cults. Humans are like that, the viewer should be smart enough to make this connection without being shown some ritual.
You are basically everything we have to imagine for ourselves. This is not a book, this is a visual medium. There are subtle ways to show the religiousness of a person without wasting much screen time.

There is a disconnect between Violet and the rest of the world. The direction of the anime doesn't help to merge Violet together with that world either.

It's a machine with near perfect speech recognition that types down whatever you tell it to.

Apparently from the novelfags that the dolls (robots who write letter verbatim) actually exist.

It's referred to only as "a prototype for a typewriter". What you describe is in no way a prototype for a typewriter. What the fuck are you talking about.

Do you see the problem now? In the anime nothing about this technology was mentioned. This is why everything feel so out of place. I don't know if this is the fault of kyoani or the author. If it is the author, it is a pretty good indication that the author just came out with the idea along the way when she was writing the novel.

Very few humans know, the public has no idea. Gods being gods and gods being horny are quite different.
The army itself doesn't know it and yet kept Violet's existence a secret from everybody else for obvious reasons, the very first line we hear from Claudia on the first episode makes this fact perfectly clear.
Be it out of suspicion, secrecy of just fear, people like Violet are kept under the rug and this was left perfectly clear since day zero.

One is enough. This is not a story about the world or societies, involving gods more deeply into this is only justifiable when it's relevant. And as such the anime doesn't waste time on it.

Visual mediums do not have to hold your hand and make such simple connections for the viewer. Again, not being shown anything besides the tale regarding the comet doesn't even make for a plothole.

How is it not? It's a machine that types by itself and has a little doll on top of it for giggles, hence auto memoir doll.
Taking that concept and making a much cheaper and manual version is nothing but a simple redesign.

A device that recognises and prints human speech and a device that prints letters when you push keys have very little in common beyond the end result. How are they even related?
Besides which, how am I supposed to conclude that's what the device does from that description?

>Very few humans know, the public has no idea. Gods being gods and gods being horny are quite different.
This has nothing to do with god having sex or not. You are implying that human in that world goes
>Hey, I just found out about a supernatural being
>welp better keep this information to myself
That is not how human works. Extraordinary things spread fast. People in Europe knew about Elephant and Giraffe without travelling to the land.

>The army itself doesn't know it
Really? What's with that soldier insisting Gilbert to bring Violet to war because he knows how well she performs. Odd things spread fast so there is no way people in the army never heard about a rumor of a female child super soldier.

>Be it out of suspicion, secrecy of just fear, people like Violet are kept under the rug and this was left perfectly clear since day zero.
Yeah that is so convenient. That is how human acts and not a plot device at all. How many mental gymnastic was needed to even write that out.

>One is enough.
It is a fucking myth. It is not something that people worship at that time. Do you understand the distinction?

>Visual mediums do not have to hold your hand and make such simple connections for the viewer.
There is one thing if the thing happened behind the scene is intuitively implied, there is another thing that you are hiding important information during world building.

AUTO memoir DOLL.

Attached: 1491848187953.jpg (274x359, 39K)

>how am I supposed to conclude that's what the device does from that description
You don't. But VEGfags will tell you that the author doesn't have to hold your hands and tell you every little details.

"Auto memoir" suggests something that records its own experiences, not one that takes dictation. Never mind that an invention's name need not relate to its function.

Guess I'll just write the damn story myself if he's going to leave everything out.

>That is not how human works. Extraordinary things spread fast. People in Europe knew about Elephant and Giraffe without travelling to the land.
She's literally classified information and the only people aware of her are either high ranking officers of her country or surviving enemy soldiers. This kind of stuff doesn't spread simply because being told by some deadbeat soldier that a little girl was slaughtering everything isn't a believable story, people will simply dismiss it as delusion or excuse.

>Really? What's with that soldier insisting Gilbert to bring Violet to war because he knows how well she performs. Odd things spread fast so there is no way people in the army never heard about a rumor of a female child super soldier.
Soldier? The's giving orders to Gilbert, a major. They also tested Violet to see her worth, we see this during Hodgins flashback on episodes 1 and 8, it gets mentioned more than once on episode 8 and one of these mentions came from the very "soldier" you're talking about.
Are you even watching the anime?

>Yeah that is so convenient. That is how human acts and not a plot device at all. How many mental gymnastic was needed to even write that out.
You tell me. Last I checked secret weapons are kept secret until they're exposed to the world. You want everyone to know about it, you want every minor detailed carefully explained to you on a story about a character but you won't get it.

>It is a fucking myth. It is not something that people worship at that time. Do you understand the distinction?
It's not a myth. Read the LN, or don't - it doesn't matter when you're nitpicking this hard. I suppose I shouldn't expect anything else from a hate thread.

Auto for automatic. Memoir for memories. Doll for doll.
Erika explains the origin of the machine as something intended to make a blind person write again. You figure out the rest, Christ.

>Auto for automatic
No, "auto" means "self". "Auto memoir" suggests it records its own memories, not someone else's.
>something intended to make a blind person write again
Blind people can type, so a typewriter fulfils that function. A simple typewriter is also an actual prototype for a typewriter and not an entirely different machine.

acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/AUTO
en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/auto
Just stop, the level of nitpicking has gotten so pathetic that english is now being questioned.

>This kind of stuff doesn't spread simply because being told by some deadbeat soldier that a little girl was slaughtering everything isn't a believable story
You don't know how the world works. These are just assumptions not what the author wrote. Things this peculiar cannot be kept a secret that long. There are a lot of people that know about the incident. All the soldiers fight alongside them know. It is hard to keep the mouth of that many people shut.

>Last I checked secret weapons are kept secret until they're exposed to the world.
Except we are talking about a being here not controlled by humans. Again this is another assumption not what the author wrote. Unless you tell me that goddess is just a fancy name for humanoid that can fight like crazy and they are not actuall gods.

>It's not a myth. Read the LN
You read it again. They don't worship them like we worship our gods right now. From the books they don't sound like the god they fear. It is more like a by the way. No way in the novel did mentioned that they worship those comet gods.

Sup Forums don't like it, so it must be good. It's a common knowledge that Sup Forums has no taste.

"Auto" tends to be sort for "automatic" in our world because we have a shit ton of machines described as "automatic" and it's rarely used in any other context. This does not seem to be true in the show at all.
Regardless, the point stands that it is described as a typewriter prototype, and what you're talking about isn't remotely a typewriter prototype.

>Sup Forums is one person
Fuck off, your way of writing things shows that you are a Sup Forumsermin.

You're factually wrong. You have emotions and butthurt, I have facts and observations.

but Sup Forums really does have shit taste.

m-majur im sowwy please stop hitting me

Attached: 1520487818423.png (1280x720, 968K)

You're making lots of assumptions right now. I don't even know what to say, you want corpses to talk and normal people in their world to believe little girls manhandle grown ass men because in your head that's how it works.

It's gotten to the point of you conveniently forgetting one the premises of Violet's character, a woman that used to live by orders and only by orders. She's not going to leave Gilbert's side, do her own thing and leak info. Ironically enough, the one time she didn't follow his orders rumors about her spread among the officers.

No.
Final (You), enjoy it.

>dropping it at one of the best episodes

Attached: 1448253068531.jpg (400x400, 89K)

You are the one making assumptions. Notice that all your explanations are pulled out from your head instead of those from the author. The author obviously didn't think this far when she was writing the story which is why there are so many plotholes. It is not about Violet leaking the info or not. People talk. You don't just do outrageous things and expect people to forget about it later.

People talk and she became famous after writing for a few famous clients, that's perfectly normal.
But every character besides Claudia and Benedict gets shocked when they hear that Violet was a soldier. It's in the LN, it's in the anime.
People don't buy murderous little girls stories and people don't flaunt having a murderous little girl as a soldier, deal with it.

>every character besides Claudia and Benedict gets shocked when they hear that Violet was a soldier
That should be the normal reaction and I am not questioning that. However there is no rumor about how Violet fought or people curious about it, it would be utterly impossible. The fact that you have to use so many imagination to explain away how out of place Violet is in the whole thing instead of using what the author wrote means that the writing is bad and you are just producing excuses.

There's literally an entire chapter dedicated to a war criminal who knows Violet very well in the LN, the soldier on episode 11 knew exactly who she was and fucked off. The crowd might not buy it but those who got involved and managed to survive know it very well.
Again, you really just want regular people to look at her and go "oh that's the little girl that killed so many people, yeah we all know about her" when the opposite happens as a clear indicator that confidentiality and verisimilitude managed to keep her a secret.

Nitpick all you want, it's not gonna change.

We are way off the track as this point. What I originally argued for is that Violet herself is very out of place even in her world. There are 2 points: herself as the goddess and the automail, which are both out of that world. You told me that the goddess was never mentioned because few people know the existence of god on earth at that world, and for the automail part, you said that there are other more advance technology like the real auto memory doll. That is like one technology, and guess what, it refers back to Violet herself too by virtual of being a doll. Notice how all the abnormalities gathers around Violet and only Violet at this point? There is no point in the story which smooth out these facts and reconciled them with the rest of the world. You are trying to say this is nitpicking but actually it is not. This is a major plot point that the author didn't give a good explanation.

Nah m8 keep going my thread was already derailed 20 posts earlier.

I said very few knew the gods were horny idiots, not that gods existec. Violet is not the only AMD nor the only one with metal arms, nor the only superhuman as we'll see soon enough.
The story orbits her, not the world.

i want a handy from robot hands

Nothing, it's succeeding and making money.

Both the mecha and fanservice in the first episode were just bait. The series is more about the pilot's relationships and the mistery of the society they live in. If you want fanservice read the manga, though.

Too bad the relationships and world barely have any substance

I don't understand how people can like Violet Evergarden. Violet Evergarden is a show that wallows in the quagmire of its horrendous directing. Couple that with the fundamental issues with its manuscript and we get a swan lake by an autistic child. It's an insult to intelligence. It's an insult to the art form. What bothers me the most is that it is able to sell itself as high art. It's like wearing a Gucci sold by a China man in downtown. People know it's trash but they're proud to wear it. Think about it this way, you go into a book reading club where people have read mind broadening literature then you come in and brag that you read twilight hoping they take you seriously. It's extremely asinine and lowers the general IQ of any community it gets brought up on. People should start waking up and just see how terrible this is. We all have our freedom to say what we want but this is beyond the border of that idea and sits at the category of intellectual terrorism. As a respect to some of our ancestors who were smart enough to take us to where we are, I urge people stop patronizing this studio and broaden their horizons. When the future generations look back, do you want to be in that category that gets laughed at?

If I wanted to watch Masterpiece Theater bullshit I'd watch Masterpiece fucking Theater.

This is pasta, do not reply.

Waiter! I didn't order this pasta.

>KyoAnifags calling criticism as pasta
As expected.

Everything about it is just annoying. How overly dramatic it is. How there's an instagram filter over everything. How every shot has to have something right up against the camera. How it forces sentimentality down with the viewer's throat. How it can't decide whether it wants to be realistic and hyper serious, or fantasy and chuuni.
There's nothing offensively bad about it, but that's part of the problem; it has no persoanlty or flavour, but it having so many objective quaities that make it appealing making it very hard to criticise without being called contrarian, making it even more annoying.

Save yourself the waste of time, it's just a terrible show.

I don't hate it. It's an okay show. What I don't get are the people already calling it AOTY.

Just shitposters, mainly franxxfags analy devastated that VEG is more successful, the show is short of a masterpiece.

Not him but It's AOTS for me.

It's AOTS for me too.

To be fair everything else airing this season is pretty bad or barely passable. On a good season VEG wouldn't even be top 10.

>AOTC
FTFY

lol

The show is good, people on Sup Forums now days have short attention spans.

Attached: Saber clone a shit.jpg (640x480, 39K)

There's no NTR.

This is a drama made for people with short attention spans, you'd think they'd love it.

The show is ok. The fanbase is insufferable.

This is a good season. I managed to keep 7 shows after the usual dropfest, most seasons don't land me 4.
VEG is just on a class of its own and I'm buying the fucking BDs.

Attached: 1516338343195.webm (1280x720, 1.43M)

this show is absolute shit

Still has better relationships that the one between Violet and Gilbert.

Well yes, Violet's relationship with Gilbert was very unhealthy in every possible way. It had to end.
