The "canon" story of King Arthur is that he was a good king who got betrayed by Morded (his nephew) while on a campaign and shipped off to Avalon by the fays (including Morgan who is not his sister). Lancelot, Galahad etc don't exist and he has no connection to a Holy Grail.
Everything else is fanfiction written hundreds of years later and about as canon as Fate.

Geoffrey is completely unreliable now but that is because he combined history with folklores, superstitions, oral tales, royal dynasty records, and pagan tales/poems. The point isn't that it's historically accurate, but that original story was rewritten too many times to insert epochal ideas of the time completed with Gary Stu OCs like Lancelet or Galahad, which weakened the story and the character of Arthur himself especially. At the end of it is comes off as a sisterfucking dumb cuckold instead of the tragic and glorious character he is supposed to be. In Fate Arthur regained that role for the price of becoming a eroge heroine, but I honestly think that is the lesser of two evils.

I do believe that. The gender thing really doesn't matter much and the clones only prove that it's a good successful design. Apart from that in personality and especially (back)story she is a great version of King Arthur, much better than the "real" one after all the rewrites.
This doesn't factor in F/Zs banquet of Kings where she really shouldn't have herself get lectured by Iskandar who was about much less successful as her in governing a kingdom.

Well, sure, a lot of it might as well be. There's still a fair bit of historical validity though since there's a decent range of contemporary records of varying sources, Roman, Greek, Egyptian, etc. Monmouth's is almost entirely bullshit, by comparison.

Yes, but to say Fate is an insult to historians and scholars whilst using Arthurian Legends and the writings of fucking Monmouth of all people as a counterpoint is just bizarre. Fate is at worst a farce of history and myths, Monmouth didn't insult history, he actively damaged its records.

Herodotus predated Monmouth by almost 1500 years, that's not exactly a good metric. As recently as Tacitus or even earlier historians were weeding out stupid mythical bullshit that couldn't be proven, Monmouth has no excuse especially considering that he was a cleric who shouldn't have been promoting heretical magical bullshit in the first place.
