Weekly Shonen Jump prehistory

Despite Shonen Jump starting in 1968, all merchadising and relevance starts with Kochikame (1976), followed by Cobra (1978) and Kinnikuman (1979).

This thread is for review all Shonen Jump important titles from 60s and 70s barring the 3 ones I've said here since they are already known

HARENCHI GAKUEN

>By Go Nagai in 1968
>Pilot chapter in very first issue, chapter 1 in issue 8
>Thanks to this manga, ecchi and hentai exist
>Everybody died in one chapter, then got resurrected

OTOKO IPPIKI GAKI DAISHO

>By Hiroshi Motomiya in 1968
>First Jump action manga
>Mankichi Togawa first Jump hero, manga goes about how he turns into a manly badass who leads tons of delinquent bands

And it's thanks to a Go Nagai adaptation that anime is going to surpass its limits of sexuality and violence once more! Truly a visionary of the ages!

DOKONJO GAERU

>By Yasumi Yoshiwaza in 1970
>Comedy manga about Hiroshi and the frog Ranpuchi who lives in Hiroshi shirt
>Gutsy Subs is scanlating the anime right now, check it, it's awesome
>Kyoko a cute

KOYA NO SHONEN ISAMU

>By Sōji Yamakawa & Noboru Kawasaki in 1971
>Jump western, very badass
>Huge hit in these years, Shueisha doesn't care anymore about it in terms of merchandising

ASTRO KYUUDAN

>By Hirō Tōzaki & Norihiro Nakajima in 1972
>Inazuma Eleven, baseball version. Too much craziness, martial arts and super techniques
>Got PS2 game

Since Mazinger Z is banned by Shueisha, I don't include it.

PLAY BALL
>By Akio Chiba in 1973
>Huge hit in 70s
>Takao Taniguchi efforts to play again baseball despite having one finger broken, and make his easy-going team a solid one
>It's spinoff of Captain, which was written at the same time. Every time a captain from Captain graduated from middle school, he was joined to Play Ball cast (which happens in high school)
>First manga title in winning Kodakusha Awards (the ones won by Neverland some months ago)
>Got anime in 2002, manga sequel in 2017 (Play Ball 2)
>Very loved in Japan, very unknown out of Japan (I understand Europe because nobody plays baseball, anyways)

CIRCUIT NO OKAMI

>By Satoshi Ikezawa in 1975
>Circuit racing manga, in which they raced in Ferrari and other important mark cars
>Inspiration for Initial D
>This and Doberman Deka suffered heavily that 70s were the period of no anime adaptation

Attached: DUD_086X0AARley.jpg (620x1002, 181K)

>Since Mazinger Z is banned by Shueisha, I don't include it.
So how much Shueisha pays you?

DOBERMAN DEKA

>By Buronson & Shinji Hiramatsu in 1975
>''City Hunter'' by Buronson, 10 years earlier
>Hardboiled manga
>This and Circuit no Okami suffered heavily that they were very popular in the no anime adaptation time, so both of them are very unknown in 2018

Attached: DUD_086X0AARley.jpg (758x1200, 223K)

>>It's spinoff of Captain, which was written at the same time. Every time a captain from Captain graduated from middle school, he was joined to Play Ball cast (which happens in high school)

That's a really cool concept.

RING NI KAKERO

>By Masami Kurumada in 1977
>Jump big boxing manga
>Takane and Kenzaki rivalry was the first big rivalry in Shonen Jump
>First action manga with ''super powers''
>Thanks to this manga, Captain Tsubasa, Hokuto no Ken, Kinnikuman, and Dragon Ball exist

Attached: DUD_086X0AARley.jpg (757x1200, 235K)

And that's it. These 10 titles should be given by Jump the same treatmen they give to rest of its titles.

Hell, Play Ball has most sold copies than Black Clover

It's a shame we barely got any of those scanlated.

I literately started watching this the other day, after only seeing the first few episodes back when it aired

It's shit, god-tier OP that's been stuck in my head for 10 years though

I kinda like it, but yeah, it's shit. Fun clusterfuck shit, but still fun

This manga has started to be scanlated by Hokuto no Gun

Fuck

> Latest Release(s)
> v.1 c.1 by Hokuto no Gun 16 days ago

Fuck

Bump

Given how many projects they do simultaneously, they'll only end this by 2040.
