New Rumor, it makes sense with the other Rumor of no Optical Disk Drive

>use carts
>game prices have to go up
>no third party support again
>"Wii can't believe the NX failed just like the Wii U!"
Please please please make them do this. I want the thing to bomb.
>he doesn't realize that having carts would allow for FAR more data to be contained, and so the games can have much more content than any disc-based game ever could
>64 gig sd cards costs $30 alone
>he thinks Nintendo won't pass those costs on to the customer at a markup
Okay, if you say so.
Current 3DS games are roughly 3-4 GB
There would be no need to go all the way to 64 GB.
Even an 8GB cart would hold a game with 2-3 times more content than current 3DS games, and 8 GB sd cards are what, $8 if that? Who's to say the current dual-layer WiiU discs don't already cost that much, if not more due to their unusual dual-layering design?
You're trying to argue that discs costs as much as sd cards. We both know they don't.
And notice how I mentioned third party. Who the fuck is gonna buy a Nintendo console for the Nintendo games only at this point? Look at the Wii U. The answer is fucking no body. The NX will sell worse than the Wii U without third party support. And when third party games at $15 more expensive on the NX, who'd buy those over the ps4/xb1 version?
>Who's to say the current dual-layer WiiU discs don't already cost that much
Anyone with half a brain
Don't SD carts have a fairly limited lifespan compared to optical media?
>allow for FAR more data to be contained
>50GB is not enought for our barebone almost iOS tier minimum effort, minimal budget games
When what the last time Shitendo created a game as big and full of things as GTA V for example?
At least Sony can fill that up with prerendered movies and uncompressed audio, but Nintendo doesn't even have that.
Who are you trying to fool here aside from yourself?
>uses "Shitendo"
>supports Sony to an extent
Non-neutral argument discarded due to logical fallacies.
Not like he's wrong though. Nintendo makes babby tier games with barely any content. Most of the shit they charge $60 would be considered an indie game in the modern industry.
>3 hour star fox
Are you implying Sony developed GTA? lmao
I guess we can count XCX
No, he's not. But I don't expect Nintendrones to have reading comprehension.
Xenoblade Chronicle X
Then explain to me what "he" meant, right now your response means zero
He's comparing Nintendo games to other big games like gta. Look at the size differences. Gta is like 50gb, while Splatoon($60 btw) is what, 2 gigs?
He's also saying at least Sony makes big games as well, like uncharted. Remember user, I know you're a nintendrone so I'll spell it out for you. We are currently talking about game sizes and how expensive they would be on cartridges.
Sounds good to me. I'd gladly pay for more for less fuckass loading times.
dead on arrival
of course its gonna use carts, its a handheld.
That's because Sony (and nearly every other company) doesn't give a shit about compression, that's why many Sony games are huge.
Nintendo actually compresses the shit outta their games, hence why most of their games are less than 10GB.
>Nintendo uses Proprietary cart system
>Third parties blow a gasket because they don't want to go through Nintendo for manufacturing
>refuse to make games for system
>NX dead in the water
Please let this be the case, I want to laugh at Nintendo's idiocy.
Okay. That still doesn't change the fact that third parties would abandon the MX faster than a black guy abandons his pregnant partner.
This is how you know that Lincoln was a god in Nintendo. He was able to secure EA to develop 8 games for N64 when at the time, Nintendo was asking 3x the upfront cost compared to Sony and 8x the manufacturing cost of the cartridges.
They may compress their games, but the result is hilarious.
The Data packs for Xenoblade Chronicles X are actually inside the disc, but Nintendo is so incompetent that the data cant be installed from the disc automatically so you have to download it from the internet.
At least back then they still had their name to fall back on, but that isn't nearly as effective now. Devs are completely and utterly tired of Nintendo and their bullshit and many claim that they are the hardest devs to work with and many times don't even help with development on their systems because Nintendo don't want to give too many of their secrets out.
Going carts again will have the same effect that the N64 did, except this time no stern leader to convince people that they will more then make the cost back.
Wait seriously?
Yes, seriously. They designed the console without the ability to install the necessary data to stream from the hard drive and disc at the same time to lessen load times and improve performance, like PS3 and xbox 360.
>32 GB
>On small handheld carts
This is almost gurantees the handheld console hybrid
its one of the differences why Xbox 360 games which came on dvds could look just as good and load up faster than the PS3 using Blu Ray.
compresion leads to faster load times.
You do realize that with more and moe games going digital, this is going to be less and less of an issue for devs?
No it doesn't and no it won't.
If the NX isn't a pure handheld, then it'll be another reason for developers to skip the NX as they'd have to consider manufacturing carts into their budget when making a multiplatform title.
>Sounds good to me. I'd gladly pay for more for less fuckass loading times.
That hasn't been true in the longest time
That won't be until at least another 2 generations. The majority of the population simply do not have the connection speed capable of downloading large amounts of data.
Did you forget about Microsoft's attempt with an all digital and online experience?
Different guy, but ack, I didn't even consider that. I was just considering from a single platform angle, it's even worse in multiplat. It's going to be another Wii and Wii U. Even if the console is powerful enough to run PS4K games, there is no way that devs will port them if they have to spend 200k just to front the cost of manufacturing the carts.
Funny enough, while I would imagine less butthurt over a digital only distribution, I can still see a similar reaction simply because Nintendo would want to control the distribution on their platform and require a fee to put it on their console.
It's basically the NES all over again, except devs and publishers have alternatives.
Indeed, some places in Kansas were still on Dial Up until just a year ago. That's completely unacceptable. Until we can get the entire world onto a standard for Internet, we can't hope to have digital only distribution.
>64 gig sd cards costs $30 alone
have you seen how much work nintendo puts into compression?
Cartridges means no disc drive. Assuming the carts also have read speeds similar to the hard drives inside consoles it also means no hard drive on basic models because no installation necessary. Nintendo can sell an NX with a hard drive for people that are heavy digital downloaders, and make sure the basic model can have one inserted or use an external HD should the user choose.
Because of the lack of disc drive and necessity of the hard drive Nintendo could absorb some of the extra cost of the cartridges, making it not nearly as bad for third parties as you think, plus digital distribution is getting bigger and bigger anyway and solid state memory gets cheaper with time. You can also pack quite a few more cartridges together compared to discs which saves on shipping costs per unit.
Still, probably the primary reason Nintendo would go with cartridges over discs would be if they have a console and handheld that share the same library and they want people that buy physical copies of the game to be able to use it in both.
My nigga. I'm talking about third parties. Unless you think Nintendo is gonna port the games for them.
I don't get it
Why ditch discs in tne first place?
Does this benefit them at all? Costs maybe?
