They kind of were. We got maybe twenty 3D platformers a year and a crapton of rhythm and puzzle games.

5th gen truly was a shitty gen, 2d games were near perfection in 4th gen and then 5th gen had shit tier 3d graphics and long ass loading times if you owned a ps1.

He's right though. Barely any games of the PS/N64 era have any lasting value. People claim shit like Zelda on N64 is the best ever but nobody would want to play it today. Meanwhile Link to the Past is enjoyable to this day.
