I've been wanting to replay this but I keep getting underpowered starters when I answer the quiz. The game then becomes unwinable.
Sucks since it's pretty much the best mercenary simulator once you get to the after game.

You can always just grind or look up how to do the quiz to get the pokemon you want. Sometimes just having a bag full of reviver seeds is all you need.
I recently replayed the game and got Phanpy though the quiz and made Munchlax my partner.

Just go though the quiz and pick a partner that compliments the pokemon you got the most.
Honestly all you need to get though the game is reviver seeds, when you can do that one foot minigame over and over to get a ton.

I pistol started scythe on uv up to map 30 recently, that's probably the extent of what I can handle so far. I've done like a third of AV and I just got to act 2 of plutonia revisited, but it's not easy. I'm trying to keep getting better so I can experience the classics, but sometimes starting a difficult map and going through the slog of learning the layout trial and error style gets disheartening and I just put it off for a while.
