Fuck off retard.

Aeris and Tide-us

Others just sound stupid

THE ONLY TIDE I'M HITTING IS A WAVE OF AWESOME 7UP PRODUCTS

No one cares.

Eh-eeh-Rah-eehz
Tee-dee-oohs

>the correct, canon spelling or the poorly localized misspelling
>the pronounciation that people who don't know Japanese may or may not say, or the pronounciation that correctly utilizes Japanese phonetics and has since been uttered multiple times in video games

I bet you pronounce 'caramel' as car-mal too, shithead

>weeb shit

How about neither

Ass and tits.
There.

send heartless angel?

Or Sin harvest?

EH REH
EH REH

Someone post the copypaste that blows the fuck out Aerithfags

Aeris and Tide us

Aeris actually takes into consideration the original phonetics of the name. Tide-us has an actual meaningful connection with elements and the character, something that stays true to the series.

Aery and Tydus
Fuck you.

>Tide-us has an actual meaningful connection with elements and the character

Actually Teedus is correct because his name is actually referencing the sun. Despite all the water imagery they used for the character his name mean sun. You're gonna have to deal with that.

I use Aeris or Aerith depending on whatever I feel like using at the moment.

Tide-us definitely sounds better but canon is canon. I might care a little more but it's FFX so whatever.

youtu.be/FyV5UrwROvU

it's desktop.jpg

the shit-sounding ones are official

if tidus were a girl ffx would have been sjw propoganda

Aerith and Teedus. Arguing otherwise is just being autistic.

Literally who?

It's ティーダ

What the fuck is up with SE releasing ports merely days after their announcement with 0 publicity? What are they trying to do?

make money without spending money

>this character who is an ace at an underwater sport and is a great swimmer who is most depicted using a water sword in a world greatly connected with the sea should have a name that means sun because ???
Also friendly reminder that in other games they've went back and forth on the pronunciation as well, and James Arnold Taylor's account of where the Teedus pronunciation comes from is essentially a native English speaker winging it in a high pressure situation.

...

Sure but why aren't they advertising it a bit more? Let every nostalgiafag know they can burn their cash.

>has since been uttered multiple times in video games
But it isn't even consistent in games where they say Tidus

In the Japanese version, his name is spelled ティーダ. So it's pronounced Tee-da.

Tee-dus because he is a character designed primarily for the japanese and they pronounce Ti as Tee.

I still can't believe we are gonna get FFX and X-2 for PC

this is a glorious age to live

Fuck yeah man, I love paying for re-releases of games I can emulate, especially when they're half-assed "remasters."

So do you think Terra should be called Tina everywhere despite her name originally being Tina due to it sounding unique to them, even though it's not unique to us?

...

meh, I am gonna pirate it

It's Aerith
It's Tidus which is pronounced as Teedus.

Earth and tit-us.

IT MAKES FUCKING SENSE

TIDE-US

TIDE AS IN WAVE

LIKE HIS BROTHERHOOD SWORD

LIKE THE SPORT HE PLAYS

LIKE THE ISLANDS OF SPIRA

BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

IT'S TEE-DUS

the only game to mention tidus by name is dissidia and they consistently call him Teedus

I don't know why you would even bother.

Kingdom Hearts 2, he's called Tide-us.

He's called teed-dus in both dissidia games and the first kingdom hearts. Dissidia duodecim is also the most recent one of them so it's tee-dus.

It's teedus because his name in ominawan means sun which is pronounced and spelled Tiida, Teedus is just that phonetic pronunciation with an S added while Yuna means moon in okinawan

KH 1 and 2 call him by name and they contradict each other

In FFXIV his name is never spoken by a VA but it's implied to be Tide-us

The REAL reason his name is Teedus is because the english narrator for the first ever trailer read his name as Teedus and the japs just assumed that was the correct pronunciation

Oh, are we arguing over pointless shit?
>Slide > Swingset
>Bouncy Castle
>Pop or soda, but never Soda pop.

>Aerith or Aeris

I just call her mah waifu

Tight-ass is more like it

I'll fucking eat you

>>Slide > Swingset
Is it even possible to have shittier taste?

>Pop or soda
It's coke.

The Voice actor of Tidus even mentioned its pronounced TEE DUS in a video he uploaded

>but never Soda pop.
I can definitely agree on that.

Aeris unless you're underage.

because I can

It's pronounced as teedus, his English VA confirmed it on his youtube channel

I literally just said that

A slide and a swing set are two completely different things.

You can play in traffic. How about you go do that?

Not anymore. The FF7 spinoffs, kingdom hearts, and duodecim made sure her name was aerith.

fight me faggot

wat?

Aeris is cute and I want her to give me a hug. She seems like the kind of person that would give really loving, energetic hugs.

They're secondary shit though.

Aeris
Tidus

I am an American and that is how those names are pronounced.

No because his name is teedus because Tiida okinawan for sun
Yuna okinawan for moon

Tiida is the phonetic Japanese spelling with English letters and pronunciation of his name, they spell it as Tidus in the dub.

>swingset > Slide > That thing where you sit on and just spins by itself
>Jumping Jack Flash
>Cola

youtu.be/FyV5UrwROvU?t=3m38s

Don't fucking cite a video if you don't watch the full thing, faggot

Them being different is still more than enough evidence to make it unclear. Besides, Duodecim is more or less just Dissidia 2.0, hard to consider them separate for this kind of thing.
It's not like the Tide has even more of a connection with the moon or anything.

Also as I mentioned before, if you actually listen to the story he tells, it really sounds like the English guy didn't want to fuck up and didn't have any idea about the source material, so he went with whatever sounded most like the Japanese version.

Did you even watch it? It's pronounced as Teedus because it comes from his Japanese name Tiida which is Okinawan for sun to contrast with Yuna which is Okinawan for moon, in the dub they spell it as Tidus but they told him it's pronounced as Teedus.

>Go to the FF wiki
>Get autistic levels of detail about how its actually Aerith
Pretty sure it's Aerith. Fuck even her and Sephiroth's name end in the same "ス" in jap.

>but they told him it's pronounced as Teedus.
Except he says literally the opposite of that happened

Sun and Moon are opposites and that's what it represents with Tidus and Yuna.

Its Zebeth

Are you retarded? Teedus has always been the pronunciation because his name is sounded phonetically as Tiida in Japan which means sun, they just spell it as Tidus in the dub but it's pronounced Teedus because of its origins

Guys.

It's Shuyin.

You can bitch all you want to user. The fact is that the official pronunciation is Tee-dus, accident or not.

Because his name officially comes from the Okinawan word for "sun", dummy. And yes, it's pronounced Teedus (Teeda in Japanese).

>it's pronounced Teedus because of its origins
That's not what the VA says

>The fact is that the official pronunciation is Tee-dus
I never claimed otherwise

teedos

airef

>game's setting inspired by Okinawa
>the real main character has an Okinawan name
>hurr, that other MC is obviously named after an English word, you guise!
Logic is clearly not your strong suit.

Or the Moon influences the Tide's path. Any kind of connection the Sun and Moon thing can have, the Moon and Tide has something similar and at times more fitting.
Yeah no shit that's where his Japanese name Tiida comes from. Now how about the western name, Tidus? Why not use the clearly more appropriate pronunciation?

Air-eyes

Tea-doos

There's also a design sketch that spells his name "Sefiros". Square had no idea how to transliterate shit at the time, so they were writing everything in the most primitive way possible.

The two stories can be compatible. It's not uncommon for localization to render names differently from the original Japanese to make it easier to say and/or more pleasing to the ear; the thing about Tiida and Yuna is absolutely, incontrovertibly true; however, it's possible that Square thought it was more important that his name sound natural in the English dub than preserve the whole Okinawan thing which english-speaking audiences would never get anyway. When they heard the first guy say "teedus" they assumed that was the most natural-sounding pronunciation for english-speakers and went with that.

The bizarre thing is that someone on the localization team obviously intended Tidus to be pronounced like the western name Titus, because the original Japanese name doesn't even have an S(su) on the end. The fact that this person didn't or wasn't allowed to follow through on this and that the decision ended up falling to some random VA who probably knew nothing about the game really makes you wonder about how much of a shit they gave for international audiences.

The S/TH mixup is almost as dangerous as the R/L mixup.

There's no "h" in the Japanese spelling of "Kimahri" either (it's spelled "Kimari"), but nobody is arguing that it's now somehow unconnected with the intended meaning of his name (rule, custom). And by the way, Titus is pronounced "Teetus" in its original Latin.

His name has been Sephilos this entire time

user pls.

The 'h' is silent, it doesn't make a difference phonetically which is the only comparison you can make between Japanese and other languages.

It's not even like Sephiroth or Aerith where the sound('th') doesn't actually exist in Japanese so they're forced to use a vague approximation.

Granted, it's possible, but unlikely, that the S was added for some other reason. The way I see it the most likely explanation is that the translator saw "Tiida" and thought "fuck that's a weird-ass name, nobody will get it...I know, Titus is kinda similar to that, I'll just kinda throw on an S so it's like a variant of that"

I always choose names that are things.

Butz, Cara, Terra, Mash, Cayenne, Aerith, Dagger and Tide-us it is.

I'm with this user

how the fuck does
>tide us
sounds less stupid then
>teedus
?

Tiddus

ah-EH-rih-ss

Well for starters Aerith is supposed to be an allusion to Earth, since her character plays a big roll in saving Gaia from Meteor. Aeris was a localization error they made for the english version.

finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Aerith_Gainsborough#Name

Tidus has always been Teedus. If you know anything about how people pronounce things in japanese you'd know this immidiately without even making a big fucking deal about it.

If you want even more proof, here's the engilsh voice actor for Tidus saying his name:

youtu.be/MurmenCSIOI?t=1m3s

Teedus is fucking retarded and SE can suck my dick if they every expect me to pronounce it that way.

>itt: ameriburgers who are too retarded to pronounce things correctly

>Teedus is fucking retarded

explain why tide-us is better

[/spoiler]i just named tidus my bane cause i thought tidus was a retarded name
