So why was this game (>pic related) a hit back in the days and got a 96% rating from IGN?

So why was this game (>pic related) a hit back in the days and got a 96% rating from IGN?

As far as i played it it seems pretty dull, repetitive (a lot of backtracking), the environment is meh and most of the characters are badly written.

Is this game overhyped or did it age very badly?

Overhyped turd of a game

Overhyped like anything that gets 95+ ratings across the board and sells shitloads

>trusting anyones opinion other than your own

It allowed people with short attention spans to play Fallout and feel nerdy.

>got a 96% rating from IGN?

why do say this as if it means anything?

Fallout 3 is absolutely fantastic. The story, the OST, the gameplay & combat mechanics, the radio stations, the quests, the humor, the atmosphere, the land and layout, the graphics at the time, it's all really fantastic. It gets unjustified hate from nerds with rose tinted nostalgia goggles who played the horrible earlier titles in the series, and their arguement is literally the same thing every time:

>muh lore

Back then it wasn't common knowledge that ratings were bought so there never was any uproar about it.

It's a mediocre game in every possible way. With massive amount of mods it becomes somewhat decent.

>muh lore

Look at the pic and finish the sentence Sup Forums:

>muh ...

>muh autism

fuck off nerd. Literally no one who has a life cares about this trivial, nitpicky bullshit.

>Literally no one who has a life cares about this trivial, nitpicky bullshit
>no one who has a life cares
You are spending your frre time by anonymously offending other anonymous posters on a Zimbabwean basket weaving website.

Start caring.

>nitpicky
There's a lot more where that came from.

literally autistic

FO3 was one of the best games ever made. Its just that some retards could not navigate in tunnels and did not play it with a controller.

You know, I blew up megaton just to kill her, and that bitch survived the fucking nuclear explosion. Fuck her in her stupid optimistic face.

[intelligence] so you fight the good fight with your bait?

...

So you spam Fallout 3 threads with your autism?

How can you persuade a computer with [Speech]?

babbys first open world/RPG game

That's Oblivion
Then again Fallout 3 is Oblivion with guns

Nah, I'm just getting slightly dissapointed when my son nukes an entire city full of innocent people.

Fucking autism

Fallout 3 was okay, but new vegas was much better.

nice framerate PCuck

Well, it's an AI so I really don't see how that's a problem. The way it's done is the problem...

I know right? Fallout 3 has great optimization after all.

>enjoys 60-90 sec load times
>no mods for terrible game

Good goy

Pretty new concept of post-apocalypse at the time (zombie shit hadn't taken off yet), open world game that was also an RPG, and filled a void that was left after oblivion struck a major chord with consoles.

It basically just timed everything absolutely perfectly.

toemouse

But you just said the game was bad. Why bother playing it at all if you hate it and you're going to complain every step of the way? unless you really are autistic as fuck

Really fun game. Reddit started meming on it because it made the franchise extremely popular and stopped making them feel like special snowflakes for being gamers.

I'm guessing Bethesda wanted to humanize the a.i with the speech option but that would be too smart for a developer that can't even make a ladder work in Gamebryo

And by new I obviously mean new for the generation. fallout wasn't new but it had been a good 10 years since the last one. van buren doesn't count.

I really like it, I enjoyed it more than new Vegas (no mods)

I agree, really think the timing of its release was what made it a hit. It's setting and gameplay were pretty original for a AAA release when it came out. I think a combination of poor aging and overuse of the post-apocalypse concept are what have made it seem like a mediocre game.

Oblivion feels like a pretty big turd now too, and that was a critically acclaimed game at the time.

You were talking to someone else, said some dumb shit so I corrected you

Instead of making any point you just scream about memes and confuse me for your arguing buddy

But you do own a console so you are forgiven

>You were talking to someone else,

>no mods for terrible game
>terrible game

>you just said the game was bad.

Yep, autism.

Critically acclaimed by plebs maybe. Plenty of people shat on Oblivion on launch.

>he doesnt listen to the opinions and advice of his doctor, lawyer, etc

Good maybe youll die

>be wrong
>can't form sentence
>m-muh memes

Consolefags

>backpedaling
>denial
>uses meme arrows while criticizing others for using memes

autists

>game reviews
>even remotly close to hard science or interpretation of legal theories
How are those game design studies going user? Any job prospects so far?

There's nothing to backpedal, you made no point

see
you never answered the question. Instead you just sperged out like an autist and denied you ever said the game was bad

kek

That wasn't a question, it was just a wild assumption on your part

So you've been spending all this time arguing about a game you've never even played?

I never mentioned game reviews

You replied directly to a post that did though.

What were you talking about then?

It was reviewed and played by people who never played the first two games.

he was talking about others opinions IMO

this could partially be true

bump

IGN IS ALWAYS RIGHT!

At least Fallout 3 was so fucking terrible that it had the so-bad-it's-good thing going for it. Fallout 4 is just fucking bland and mediocre as fuck.

...

...

I remember that time when they couldn't even do simple math.

Strongly disagree. Its probably my favorite game ever created. Huge world, interesting characters, amazing quests. And the mods made the game even bettter!

But my favorite part is the atmosphere, it truely emerged me into the world.

Well, we ended up getting Fallout: New Vegas which is certainly on par with Fallout 1 & 2.

If Fallout 3 & 4 were the sacrifices necessary to achieve that, then I'm okay with that.

I disagree. Fallout 2 did casinos better than New Vegas

>it truely emerged me into the world
>emerged
