I don't think anyone expects these kinds of games to have a super deep rabbit hole to explore, but sometimes it's nice to have some sort of small plot to justify the characters fighting, and keep things interesting

Reaper was once known as Gabriel Reyes, Reyes was a part of The Soldier Enhancement Program. While training in the program Reyes met Jack Morrison and soon became close friends. Reyes fought in the Omnic Crisis alongside Morrison. The two later joined Overwatch and Reyes became the unofficial leader of Overwatch but was passed over for the official role by his friend Jack Morrison. This created a rift between the two men that lead to tragic consequences and ultimately the fall of Overwatch itself.

It actually isn't half bad but blizzard will fuck it up somehow I'm sure either by just abandoning the story or turning it into shit. The robot/human conflict is really interesting

In all seriousness, why did they give each character that amount of backstory? 10 of the 21 are Overwatch, 5 lawful neutral, 2 chaotic neutral. The only real "villains" are the aussie bandit duo, Reaper and Windowmaker. Why set up a Good v Evil Conflict when you can't even fill out a whole team of unique villains?

He never did any of that ghost shit while in Overwatch, the program just turns you into captain america like Morrison.

We don't really know how he got those powers. It was sometime after or during the explosion that "killed" him and morrison and there are a few lines to suggest it could possibly suggest mercy had a hand in it but other than that we know nothing

Yeah but TF2 lore was never meant to be taken that seriously. Sure there is some occasional drama in the comics but it's main focus has always been comedy.

In all fairness, yes, not much is known about the stuff in Overwatch. I kinda missed out on the TF2 fuss at it's release. I was not big on Source games and shit.

The game is fun, but I do not like to have to grind shit again. I am pretty sure ranked will be locked behind a level wall and the fucking cosmetics will barely drop if you dont pay for them.

TF2 lore is one that really didn't become a thing until real later on.

When the game came out it only revealed the characters and the maps you played on revealed a lot of the scenario for you (Two secret Spy agencies on a secret war for world power hidden in plain sight) but that's really it. A couple updates later they showed a slightly better picture of what's going on (Admin is refereeing said war but is playing both sides for her own agenda) but it mostly ever focused on the interactions of the characters and what they did in their down time. It wasn't until a good amount of updates and years later they legit started writing a "story" and it's mostly made up as it goes on but it's main focus continues to be the characters and comedy.
