Hi, I'm Guybrush Threepwood, a mighty pirate!
Hi, I'm Guybrush Threepwood, a mighty pirate!
do you perhaps have any L-sized leather jackets
>Finished Monkey Island 1 and 2 a few years ago
>Still haven't started Curse of Monkey Island
Guybrush Threepwood? That's the dumbest name I've ever heard!
please play it user
it's one of the best adventure games ever created and I say it non-ironically
Go to bed, Mancomb.
Get on it nigga.
CMI was the last truly great one. Absolutely fantastic and you are doing a disservice to yourself the longer you wait.
Also, you better play Megamonkey.
It's my favorite. Great animation. Fun puzzles. Voice acting that's SUPERB for the time.
Thrills. Spills. Laffs.
Don't disrespect me, bitch.
I would argue that the 4th one was maintaining status quo all the way up to monkey combat. What a fuck-awful way to ruin a game.
why the fuck did you remind me of fucking Tales of Monkey Island you fucking fucker
how long can you hold your breath?
I hated the 4th one. Awful controls and art coming off the third one, but it had okay puzzles I guess.
Monkey Combat was fucking trash though for real.
I enjoyed the Tales games more than the 4th though probably.
I dropped tales of monkey island on the last episode for some reason
should I pick it up? I remember really liking few moments from those episodes but something about last episode turned me off, or maybe I was just busy at the time with living and such
it's an abortion like all Telltale adaptations
I simply cannot stand that cancerous studio and what it did to the genre
I enjoyed it well enough. I don't really remember the individual episodes though, but I'd say go for it. They weren't that bad.
Yay or nay?
I thought the last episode was the best to be honest. I thought the first few were sort of weak, but the last one made up for it.
oh
well
I really loved their work on sam & max season 3 so maybe I should not take word from you
altho sam & max season 2 and 1 are pretty dull
Was a good game, but the episodic releases made the game too easy, and there was a LOT of pandering.
Grade: C
You fight like a dairy farmer
Remember when people used to make adventure games? Those were the days.
Kind of a shame considering Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle, Broken Sword and so on. I guess EA really did kill that entire genre huh.
They are still around.
I try to recall myself why I stopped it...it had to do something about cryptic clues that you needed to step by step that seemed really cheap on the surface...or something I dunno really
maybe I'll get give it a shake...altho I reckon I'd need to start from the first
Dead genres:
>Adventure games
>God games
>Raising sim
Life support:
>RTS
>Day of the Tentacle
Is the remaster? I got a 33% off coupon on Steam.
*remaster good?
Telltale killed the genre with its episodic bullshit and interactive movie bullshit
early 3D killed the genre with its boring aesthetics
portable devices killed the genre with its simplified mechanics
From what I've heard it's a good remaster. All it removed was a sex gag.
Haven't played it myself though.
tfw still waiting on Quest for Glory remasters.
these BUT
for me ultimately what makes a good point 'n' click is the writing, something that hooks you into wanting to solve the puzzles and progress
but I reckon that goes without saying anyway
Their Walking Dead S1 games was decent till episode 3. They just kept getting lazier and lazier with player decisions. Their later games, like the GoT one, are a disgrace.
Thanks.
yeah that's true
shame that even Jane Jensen had to take up writing erotica because no studio wants quality writers
it sometimes feels like only Daedalic and Wadjet care at this point
A wet towel! A wet fucking towel!
God that took me so fucking long to work out.
...
You must be literally retarded.
name one adventure game that has this problem
protip - no GK3, we all know it's fucking ridiculous
>tfw you will never play MI3 for the first time again
Not that guy, but I remember the first Monkey Island trolling you in that segment where you're stuck underwater and there's all these sharp objects right out of your reach, but the solution is to simply pick up the pole you're tied to.
Gave me a hearty chuckle at the time.
fuck, this burst of nostalgia made me realize how my current self is nothing I wished to become after all these years....
I need to get my shit together so I can play this game again with full of heart, goodbye anons, I'll be gone for a while
jesus the feels
>you will never play MI or Simon the Sorcerer again for the first time
>you will never find adventure games tolerable again
Times truly were easier back then
Nah
terrible controls
terrible looks because of the dawn of 3d
Loads of puzzles that didn't really make sense (it also had some good ones but overall disappointing)
Retconned a ton of shit for no reason
it was awful way before monkey combat
Though to be fair, finally walking around on Monkey Island again was cool
Tales had its own set of problems but it for sure was better than Escape
Fourth episode was the best
It was the funniest one, it had some actual emotion/story and that great twist at the end, it had Stan, it was easily the highlight of the episodes.
Pick up dog is even better.
>tfw I had to check a walkthrough when I was ten years old
>tfw there was no internet amongst my friends so it was hard as fuck to get to these things
This was alright
Naughty Dog is making a monkey island game
>tfw the fakeout gameover in MI3
>tfw my dad got completewly fooled when he played it and blamed us for telling him the solution to the puzzle that leads to it
good times
Don't even joke about such things.
What was the fucking deal with his hair in the Special Edition remakes of 1 and 2? Why did they make him look so stupid?
And 3 doesn't need to be remade, maybe just upscale the resolution, but are they really never gonna acknowledge or polish up 4?
Why wasnt there a threepwood reference in black flag
There are Monkey Island references in the 4th game though at least
They were too busy making eavesdrop missions
I liked them. Having voice acting, hints and updated music was nice. Also I didn't hate the art as much as many here apparently do.
lots of the dev team was probably too young to have played them
also the target demographic who plays them would definitely not have been old enough to have played even Curse of Monkey Island
I wish there was an option to play with old everything plus voice acting
I don't mind the updated graphics so much (though I slightly like the sprites better), but updated music is largely pretty awful to me.
Especially the music on the ghost ship, FUCK me that was ruined
But that's the deal, I actually liked the HD new art for just about everything EXCEPT Guybrush's hair. Something about his hairdo just bugged me more than anything else.
What sex gag? I just played it again recently and nothing comes to mind.
Are you sure, you can't do that? I'm pretty sure I remember oldschool mode having voices too if you wanted although I could be remembering that wrong.
pretty sure yeah
I really wanted that so I did look for it quite intensely
Did you try this?
gratissaugen.de
I am not in the mood for sales hype.
who /wadjet/ here
Nah, Runaway trying too hard to be a funny.
Broken sword was closer to Lucasarts.
>posts one of the worst wadjets
>I really loved their work on sam & max season 3
>the worst fucking one
Maybe you should play Tales of Monkey Island, since you clearly have terrible fucking taste.
This guy is literally Guybrush reincarnate.
>technobabylon
>everyone is gay or transexual: the game
Guybrush wasn't a smug, unlikeable cunt.
Whenever I smell asphalt I think of Maureen...
>sam & max season 3
That's when they start making fucking dramas.
I mean Max dies, Guybrush killed, Doc Brown try to make suicide, why the fuck they did it?
(They're all gone better)
He robbed graves and cheat retards.
Deponia just have more dark humor, that's all.
Look behind you, a three headed monkey!
Haha xD!
How do i give upvotes on 4 chan?
it's "Sup Forums" you "newfag"
Who is that chan actually?
Huh, neat. Thanks user
Probably won't use it because I've played the games to absolute death by now, but if I ever do feel the need to replay once again, I'll remember this.
Come on, men! We've got to recover that map!
What can you tell me about Grim Fandango?
Ask me about Loom
That pirate will be done for when he falls into our trap!
incredibly good idea wasted in the absolute shittiness of early 3D
>ywn get stuck on a part of a game for days on end ever again
>ywn excitedly tell your friends how to beat it when you finally figure it out
Fucking christ, I hit everything but the overcoat
Grim Fandango looked fine though.
>No Curse of Monkey Island HD edition ever
The humor/storyline/fictional world is unsurpassed imho.
The controls are horrible and some of the puzzles are weird.
But you definately need to play it.
humblebundle.com
IT'S ONLY 2€ YOU FUCKING FAGGOT
but the navigation was incredibly clunky
This user will be whining and start posing as a trap.
I wouldn't call tank controls absolute shit.
>all these nostalgia tinted dumbfucks in the thread
The genre never died, and there are many decent adventure games getting released pretty much every month or two. It's just hilarious to see how ignorant those self-proclaimed adventure fans are. I see it on a lot of video game websites though, not just here, people claiming the genre is dead when it's basically the opposite of that.
the quality drops all the time though and the point&click subgenre is relatively rare nowadays
t. adventuregames.com user
...
>the quality drops all the time though
Many times it does, not all the time.
Look behind you, a three-headed monkey!
Ah, papapishu!
>tfw I will never finish my point'n'click adventure
I'm using AGS and even a simple adventure game is a chore to make, graphics especially. I love writing and drawing, but goddamn son I need to draw a shitload of stuff for an adventure game. I also need to keep the art style consistent, and maybe even animate some parts so that the backgrounds will look more alive and vivid.
