If they wanted to break ground, shoulda lopped the head off and have that bouncing down instead.
Maybe for the remake
The entire 3rd act of Xenoblade Chronicles
No, it wasn't even original in Final Fantasy. Plenty of party members died permanently in older FF games
that would be FF4, when you witness Cecil massacre 2 villages, see him overcome with guilt, resolve to change and become a Paladin
Aerith's death was pretty 'shocking', but i honestly feel that has more to do with her theme that plays after the first bounce
Fuck off, nintendrone.
Emulated it
Literally never happened before.
Xenogears 2nd disk
>series of games about everyone fighting stupid shit against all odds and dying left and right in combat only to be revived
>character forced to die in a pre rendered cutscene
>suddenly for this one instance bringing back from dead doesn't work
Only reason it's a groundbreaking twist is because it was written by bunch of hacks in a shitty series
What the fuck? Spoiler that shit
I thought the queen being killed off and Cleyra being destroyed was much more surprising senpai
Because your party members get KOd you dipshit
Not by a long shot, even for when it came out.
FFIV TELLAH
FFV GALUF
FAR SUPERIOR GAMES
Nah. Even if you go into FE4 knowing the plot twist at the end of Chapter 5, it still hits hard.
>Cuan and Ethlyn murdered in Yied
Desert and there is NOTHING you can do to save them
>Sigurd betrayed by Alvis
>Alvis brought Deirdre in front of Sigurd and she can't remember her own husband
>Alvis murdered Sigurd and wiped out your army
>Alvis then established the Grandbell Empire and years later the citizens are forced to live like slaves and children are hunted down and murdered
>The rest of the game is Sigurd's son, Celice, leading an army with the children of the first generation to retake his kingdom and liberate the continent from the Lopt Sect
>and children are hunted down and murdered
Like, all children or what? That sounds a little silly.
I think the stuff with Zack and Cloud's memories are the real twist of FFVII and an interesting subversion of the usual JRPG hero cliches.
firstly how was it a twist, and secondly what ground was broken with it?
This, desu. It was more interesting than a trope that has been done to death before, even in the medium.
I mean, don't get me wrong, Aerith's death was well delivered and got the emotional response out of me it wanted, but it's not something I would call "groundbreaking." Party members die all the time in RPGs, and it had happened a number of times before in Final Fantasy.
rip Galuf
Cloud going full retard is a much better twist than this shit.
Finding out the main character was evil in Baten Kaitos.
>FFTA
>Marche was right and wrong at the same time because in the end he could travel back to Ivalice and impregnates lots of viera
>Utawarerumono
>MC is last boss so if you level him up earlier he will fuck you hard
Yes and no. Party members die in FF games all the time, but not quite in the same way that Aeris did.
Josef, Mimwu, and Ricard all died, but it was clear that they were temporary party members. The party in that game was Firion, Rosa, Guy, and a filler member.
Everyone died in IV but then they all come back so it's okay. Also that game had a rotating cast you couldn't control, a character dying was the same as a character leaving the party.
Galuf died, but Krille gets all his skills.
Leo died, but it was clear he was also temporary, you couldn't change his equipment.
Aeris was a distinct character. You had no real reason to expect she was going to die. She was an available party member most of the game, and you never get a replacement. Her death was different than the others and more impactful from a gameplay standpoint.
Cloud being a beta was a great twist, but it doesn't seem to have stuck. Most people seem to think Cloud was a badass, but him being a beta fuck (and a clear representation of the player) was a big part of the game. FFVII has a lot of pretty interesting ideas that it seems like everyone just ignores.
He still 1v1'd Sephiroth on final destination
Yeah, with items on.
Nay mate, no items, no magic, no summon, limit only
>Game happens to be published by Nintendo
Christ are you that autistic?
That's the point tough, he was the underdog and a loser but through determination he became the strongest soldier.
And thus we remember him as a badass because that's what he was at the end of the game
It's not like people think of Squall as an emo anti-social faggot just because of the first disc, right? Right?
was looking for this
it's even worse if you took the time to max her, that lvl 4 limit break
>green balls falls on the ground
>halfway through its first bounce it turns sideways in midair
