They also pocket $80000 after a kickstarter for their friend's medical bills, it's been 4-5 years (not sure which) and still no game. The took the shekels and ran. but their history videos are very well done. they may be baseline history lessons, but the way in which the dude tells them like its a campfire story makes it super interesting, and theyre always filled with neat trivia. knowing what I know about WWII, i didnt actually learn that much. but not knowing much about the first crusade, the korean invasion and sengoku japan, i learned a shit ton

Mike Duncan's History of Rome. It's a long series of like, 165 or some shit episodes, each about 20-30 minutes. It's great if you want to learn the history of the Empire, though the series ends in about 500 AD so it doesn't follow through the fall of Constantinople in 1453.

it kinda varies in my opinion. sometimes there's some genuinely cool shit in their videos and sometimes it's either ridiculously boring discussions about Hearthstone or just kinda bullshit.

I will say that I've watched most of the episodes and I think the good ones are worth watching(especially Extra History, while keeping in mind that they have been known to put a liberal spin on history here and there).

Ok, that really rubs me the wrong way. One thing is not being a historian (as in not researching the past) but being knowledgeable about it, but another thing is pumping out these videos with several history subjects. I mean, who do they think they are that they think that they can give history classes on these particular and very varied subjects? It takes a history professor some time to prepare his class on one particular subject for one semester and make it a good class.

Of course they are going to be wrong with many of the facts they say.

I don't take their history at face value, and I don't give a shit about their game talk because I don't give a shit about the industry.

I still can't get over how retarded their Missile commander video was.

You're retarded and he is retarded.

First three minutes, in classic EC style, he states the obvious in a super pretentious tone, like he is saying some ground-breaking shit.

After that, you have to address the point that he is doing a 7 minute video on a game "as advertised" i.e. he hasn't played it.

After that, he says "I don't like to make categorical statement like this" right before saying that a certain category of games do not have value. Aside from the arrogance of declaring an entire category of games as without value, there are other problems with this claim.

His assumptions is that games only have value if they fulfill one of these things:
1. They teach a moral lesson he approves of
2. The violence in them is morally justified in-game by a cause he morally approves of
Whether or not Hatred fulfills these, he cannot know, since he has not played the game, at least at the time of making these videos. However, these assumptions are stupid anyway, and he never gives a justification. Why should a game have to teach a moral lesson you approve of to be valuable as art? He just says it isn't, with no argument.

Aside from how intellectually bankrupt this all is, he goes the extra step of being morally bankrupt by approving of stores not selling games based on what he personally doesn't morally approve of. He doesn't want to "give them a megaphone" or for stores to sell them. This is a stupid moralist just like any other disguised as a thoughtful, measured art critic.

That's not to mention to nonsensical non-sequiturs sprinkled throughout like "sadism isn't violence. Sadism is cruelty." and "The only joy in a sadistic game is the joy found in hurting other people."
