They were mostly on the offensive though, and those numbers aren't too surprising considering the circumstance of trying to push an offensive in wwi era fighting on a mountain where avalanches are killing people by the dozens as well. Once they got rid of that general they did a little better.

I guess because they like remaking history however they feel like it, even if it means removing the main allied power from the war and adding blacks and muslim women. They probably ran out of time to model the French since they spent so long working on the big black soldiers.
