It's a point and click adventure, so I guess that is why. It's somewhat of a niche cult classic though. Definitely not the sort of game people who frequent Sup Forums play all that much.
I've personally played only a little bit of it. Found it fascinating, but like all point and clicks also frustrating and I had to stop playing it after a while and never got back to it. I really should though, it felt like Twin Peaks weird cousin.
