$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

rent>pixels

The human eye can't detect anything above 1080p

>being 4k pleb
>not glorious 8k master race.

Why do you autists obsess over stupid numbers and shitpost about the numbers instead of playing games

Because there isn't a single GPU on the market that can be max 4k 60 FPS.

Will everybody switch over to 4k? Eventually. Right now? Fucking idiotic.

Because games aren't made for 2 and 4k cocksucker

I play most games that I play at 4k, some at 1600p, some at 1440p, some at 1080p.

I play DMC4 and Valkyria Chronicles at 5k.

lol

how bic is ur dic tho

no games are making 4k textures

1440p or 4k?

Which is better

Whoa dude, those are some hard-hitting games you've got there; a PS3 port and quite possibly the greatest PC port of all time.

Call me when you can run all the latest games at 4k 60FPS and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg and we'll talk.

4k.

Cam you even read man? My PC is 4 years old by the way.

Is there a noticeable difference between 4k and 2k at monitor size?

yes

I have a choice between an ultrawide curved 1440p monitor and a 4k 27 inch monitor

They're both the same price

I should buy the 4k?

I would yeah. ultrawide should be higher than 1440p though?

because monitors are expensive and so are GPUs that can reliably output at those resolutions.

I'll get there eventually.

This that shit isn't even on consumer level yet.

Yes it is

Sure if you work 60+ hours a week with a steady job

I like to live my life thanks .

You can play 4k with the gtx 1080

I just bought a 1080p tv last year, fuck off

Tell that to a women looking at a 4k pic

>of your tiny dick

Are you homeless?

>pay like 1500 for a new tv
>or pay 200 and wait a couple years

You can get a 4k 65 inch curved tv for 1000 now

Why the fuck does it need to be curved? Why would I ever need a tv that oversized?

I'm skeptical that the image fidelity improvement is worth the cost

you need to have top of the line hardware to get 60 fps at resolutions above 1080p

Who the fuck rents? You just giving your money away?

Alright

have fun with your 360p portable tv my friend

I prefer more 1080p at 144Hz to 4k at 60.

If I wanted 4k at 144 I'd be out of a lot of money

>60 fps

do you live in the stone age where 60 fps is still acceptable?

4k at 144 doesn't exist

Why the FUCK is 1440p so expensive still? 1440p is ~77% more pixels than 1080p, yet you can get 1080p monitors for $100 new, while the cheapest 1440p monitor I could find is $260. That's 160% more cost for 77% more pixels.

>oy vey, get with the times goy, fork over your paycheck for a bigger tv, wouldn't want your friends to call you out now would we?

my monitors are only 60 hz unfortunately

no job and no $ can't upgrade to a 144 hz monitor

Diminishing returns you nigger.
The difference between resolutions becomes more subtle to the human eye.
I wish people would stop bitching about 2K and 4K so devs could but resources into more important things like detail and map sizes.

Yeah that seems like it would be a real issue for throughput possibly.

I'm already using a power booster just to have 3 1080p monitors at 144

>UHD is 3840 × 2160
>4K is 4096 × 2160
It's fucking called 4K because it's vertical resolution is over 4 thousand.
FUCK. Why does everyone keep fucking using the terms interchangeably like a bunch of retards?

the more complex the panel the lower the manufacturing yield will be

>tfw 4k IPS monitor with g-sync

>It's fucking called 4K because it's vertical resolution is over 4 thousand.
No, it's called 4k because it's horizontal resolution is over 4000 pixels

5K > anyway

>The difference between resolutions becomes more subtle to the human eye.
A) higher resolutions enable you to use bigger screens at the same pixel density
B) 1080p on 20"+ screens is still nowhere near having a pixel density so high that the human eye can't distinguish increases in pixel density for normal viewing distances for a 20"-30" monitor. Once you get used to really high pixel densities, 1080p starts to look pretty bad.

That said, the great thing about PC gaming is that you can choose between higher resolutions or more detail on a lower resolution so we can both get what we want.

If it ain't broke, don't throw it out and pay thousands of dollars

becuase nobody gives a shit just like how nobody cares about differences between KiB vs KB vs Kb

it's close enough

>paying for a 1080 ($580) and a 4k monitor

that's like the price of a fucking singular pc. There aren't even good consumer-tier 4k monitors yet.

>last gen defined by vertical resolution
>next gen defined by horizontal resolution

literally fucking retarded

But devs have to design games around performance, so they may have to end up cutting/downgrading things just so they can get good performance.
> higher resolutions enable you to use bigger screens at the same pixel density
That's a good point
>1080p on 20"+ screens is still nowhere near having a pixel density so high that the human eye can't distinguish increases in pixel density for normal viewing distances for a 20"-30" monitor
It's not that they can't distinguish it, it's that the amount of difference they see isn't enough to justify the cost of having to jump up to that resolution.

I won't upgrade until they day it's less than 200 to get a decent 4k monitor and a gpu that can run 4k is less than 400 bucs

Or until I get to sit down with a 1080p and a 4k monitor, the same size, running the same game at the same fps

Because it sure as hell doesn't matter for 90% of content on tv's right now

because i talked shit to the games genie once and he cursed me to forever use a crt moniter from 1996 for anything computing related.

Waiting for Polaris cards

>all these plebs that think 4k is something special
>tfw play at 150k

>amd

I am a graphics and performance retard

I can't tell differences between FPS and resolutions. I just know bigger resolution means bigger image, which i don't give a shit about. My brain can't bring itself to appreciate any of that shit so I just play the games.

I'm poor and I already have 2 1080p monitors

1440/144 seems like the real godmode desu anyway

>I won't upgrade until they day it's less than 200 to get a decent 4k monitor and a gpu that can run 4k is less than 400 bucs

Most 1440p and 144hz are still well-over $200. 4k ain't going under 200 for a long time. On top of that there aren't any GPUs that can handle 4k well at high settings.

because I have a 770

4k at 120 exists

Polaris isn't even intended for 4k. It's intended to give the performance of AMD's current cards for a lot cheaper and more power efficient.

>I just know bigger resolution means bigger image
RETARD ALERT

i play at 900p, 2007 monitor here
at least i get more fps

Why do some people play at less than 1080p when 1080p is available?

I play all my games at 4k 30fps
Nothing good enough has come out to warrant upgrading to cards with HDMI 2.0
>tfw bought an $80 didgerydollar cable for no reason

I play 1440p right now and it's pretty good. I kinda want to upgrade to 4k in 2 years or so but I've heard the scaling on a lot of games is really shitty so if you play 4k all the UI elements will be small as fuck.

Isn't that how it works? Tell me cause I literally don't comprehend that shit. People will dish out hundreds of dollaridoos to play something on a bigger screen, fuck that.

Whenever I see new graphics i go "wow" for 3 seconds and then the novelty is gone and the game is always shit. brb playing need for speed undeground on a small screen again

Is 4k worth it

As a console fag I can notice the difference between 720 and 1080. The fact you're posting a pic of that retard makes it clear your brain isn't firing on a cylinders.

guru3d.com/news-story/dell-up3017q-ultrasharp-30-inch-ultra-hd-monitor-that-has-an-an-oled-panel.html

best part is I make this every two weeks (4k) so I'm not wasting my money buying the nicest shit you retards can't afford.

Because a monitor that makes proper use of 4K would be the size of your fucking wall.
1080p is where LCD and plasma TVs begin to plateau. Going further than that is basically dick-wagging.

I have a 1080p monitor because my current GPU has lasted me 6 years and when I buy the 1080 or whatever AMD is calling theirs, my next GPU will last another 6 years.

no, that's not what it fucking means. kill yourself.

It's resoution, idiot. Resolution = image size, not screen size.

It's more PPI, which means a clearer image when rendered.

It's still not worth it, but the size of your screen and the size of your resolution are entirely different things.

>OLED on a computer monitor
Enjoy having your task bar burnt in.

Why do some people play at 16:9 when 21:9 is available?

pretty sure every monitor nowadays has pixel shift. so burn in never happens.

gimmick

this, 4k is only good on 50 inch plus tvs

I'm perfectly content with 21 inch monitors for gaming, and why spend extra to get almost nothing out of extra unnecessary pixels that also requires a lot more power to produce

Actually thinking about getting a 900p monitor. I'm building a computer and don't know if I should get a low end card (like GTX 950 or AMD equivalent) and a 900p monitor to hold me over until 4k is more affordable, or if I should just spend the money on a 1440p monitor now and upgrade to 4k at a much later date. Is 900p really that bad? I know that 1600x900 at 19" is roughly the same pixel density as 1920x1080 at 23".

>People this assblasted that someone doesn't lick their screens in pleasure and dish out thousands of dollars just to get le latest meme graphics

Aight famalams, i'll be over here playing videogames in my whatever pixel whatever DPI resolution bullshit small screen

$1000 isn't $200.

I have no idea where this chart comes from but It's been entirely accurate in my experience. I have a 50inch TV that sits around 5ft away from my sofa, and the difference between 1080p and 2160p is night and day. That said, the difference between 1440p and 2160 is more subtle but does still add a lot of detail.

It also depends entirely on your living situation. Presuming you're not scraping form paycheck to paycheck it's bretty cool.

Because my amd card is too incapable of running even 1080p.

I feel the opposite. I can barely notice the difference between a 4k and 1080p 50" TV at a normal viewing distance, but sitting up close like you would to a monitor you can easily notice the increase in pixel density from 1080p to 4k.

Meant to attach this

>Resolution = image size, not screen size.
>I just know bigger resolution means bigger image

?

>Expected to spend months worth of work money on a fucking screen or graphics card

How about no
Can't honestly give two shits about FPS either unless it dips under 20 or something

Woops, meant for

because i cant tell the fucking difference nor do i give a flying fuck

900p is lower-resolution than most monitors of the last 15 years.

1440x900 here, heres a screenshot of dark souls with internal resolution raised to 3000x2000 without any mods other than dsfix

I wish AMD wasn't getting their ass kicked so badly.

I was forced to switch away from their CPUs, and now I might have to switch away from their GPUs as well just avoid wasting my money.

It's a bleak future we're headed towards.

4K still doesn't have 144Hz monitors so 1440p is the best right now.

Doesn't seem worthwhile honestly.

Only time i'd go 4k is if VR gets competent enough to buy into and then i'd build a PC that could do 4k as well.

SCREEN SIZE IS THE SIZE OF THE PIXELS, WHICH IS NOT RELATIVE TO THE SIZE OF THE SCREEN.

IF YOU HAVE A 1080P SCREEN THAT IS 27", AND A 20" 4K SCREEN, THE 4K HAS THE SUPERIOR IMAGE, BUT THE 1080P IS A BIGGER SCREEN.

DIFFERENT THINGS

Is this backwards? The optimal viewing distance for 480p on a 20" monitor is at least 8 feet away but up to 20 feet?

Which is why I'm tempted to get it to hold me over until 4k is more affordable. A refurbished 900p monitor is $70 at Newegg. $70 for 2-3 years of use while monitors and graphics cards get more affordable for higher resolutions sounds like a good deal to me IMO. But I might just spend the extra $30 for a 1080p one for now.

>using both an AMD cpu and gpu
shit nigger what are you doing

I thought those R9 cards were supposed to be shitting on Nvidia?
