How come there are so many helmets/headgear in Dark Souls that completely obscure the character's vision? What is the explanation? It seems silly to think that the player character can run around dodging shit and attacking while wearing a blindfold.

I just realize the pic is from BB not DS but same thing applies. I don't understand it, drives me crazy to the point where I won't even equip it if it renders my character blind, no matter how cool-looking it is.
When you're an undead that's been around for millenia you just have a sense for this kind of stuff
worst offender right here
Bloodborne has a lot of references to blindness and voluntary blindness, eyes, multiple eys, etc. It ties in with insight and beastliness. The more you see the more insight you have and the more horrors you expose yourself to and become corrupted. Blinding yourself is a method to keep yourself pure.
Right, I know it makes sense from a lore perspective, but I can't wrap my mind around the fact that you're running around literally blinded.
True and, perhaps pure is not the word I would use, but it's to look inward. You just need more eyes inside your head.
True. It's pretty binary. Either you're turning into a beast or sucking alien cock.
Another one.
They know they are being controlled. By the player :^)
Because you don't need your characters eyes to see. It's a third person game.
It's video games. You kill giant monsters by whacking at their feet.
There's an item description you need to read.
Come on man, you've probably played msg3. Remember when paramedic says you have to suspend your disbelief for movies? She was also inferring the same for games. There are monsters and shit and somehow being exposed to blood heals you. There are endless insane things that happen, just let it go. I have a hard problem with crap like that too but it's meant to be fun/symbolic.
I get that it's a fantasy game, and trust me I don't usually let things like this bother me. It's just this one specific thing that gives me anxiety. Like I picture myself wearing one of these while trying to fight a monster and freak out. Catarina helm makes my asshole pucker every time I see it. Maybe I'm just a weirdo.
it turns out you need mental help
That would be creepy as fuck, I see your point in that.
...
Because the developers put 0 effort into customization of character and no one wants to look at their ugly ass hallowed face.
>I can't accept things other than my own perspective
Nah, you're just autistic.
The Demons Souls crown was better. And it gets worse with every entry.
You must have hated the Grand Archives
You see with your eyes on the inside, silly!
the catarina helm has a decent vision slit in it though. the radius of the helmet would make the wearers vision more limited than with a greathelm or frogmouth helmet that had a similar sized slit, but it doesn't look unreasonable for what's intended to be a heavy duty suit.
>can accept beasts, aliens, superhuman abilities and literal magic
>blindfolds break muh immersion
reaaaaally?
Honestly the only problem I have is the genuine half-assedness of the modelling department.
There are just too many Dark Souls 3 helmets with solid metal vision slits and eye holes like the Executioners helmet or Alva's helmet.
This is the most retarded argument ever
Do please explain how in a fantasy setting where beasts, aliens and magic exist, simple blindfolds go too far when even blindless is a theme in the game?
The fucking wax was killing me, yes I hated it.
What was the point of the wax?
The ghost arms that come out the bookshelfs and ground wont curse and damage you. Its especially good when fighting the outrider knight behind the illusory wall.
It prevented the curse build up and made you immune to the wax attacks of the scholars there
Catarina armor is actually an extremely functional and powerful set. In fact, some king had armor that resembled the chestpiece.
The issue is the weight, which would be tremendous.
Gothic full plate is about 50-70 pounds equally distributed, Catarina would easily weigh over 100 and would be imbalanced.
