Now that DOOM is a resounding success, what are you hoping for with the eventual QUAKE reboot? I'm hoping for a return of the eldritch horror setting and the resurgence of arena shooter multiplayer.

singleplayer campaign a-la quake 1. i want it thematically similar if nothing else. no more of this garbage """ARENA""" only shooters. quake 1 has both the best multiplayer and singleplayer, just SIMILAR is all i want id software. i don't want a 1:1 remake, i want something new, but just FUCKING SIMILAR. i hope reflex fails because all it did was steal the cpma everything without doing anything new including it's userbase and i don't want the current quake 1 userbase further split. doom 4 was a pleasant surprise, do it again but pull a quake 2 64 and give consoles something different for fucks sake instead of trying to appeal to both audiences

or alternatively just start shitting out official expansions for the old titles like quake 1 and maybe finally give quake 3 a singleplayer expansion

If they made Quake 5 do you think they would disable strafejumping and force loadouts just as it is in DOOM? I think they would. It's amazing how RAGE had rampjumps, circlejumps, and strafejumps but id tech 6 just threw all of that out the window

AFAIK strafejumping is possible in idtech6, just disabled via console.

Personally would love more Quake 2 and 4. Couldn't care less about the overrated Quake 3 multiplayer and the Strogg are way more interesting than whatever was going on in the first game.

I think the level design is fine, it's just that there are nowhere near enough enemies populating the maps so it ends up being a lot of down time running around and platforming trying to get secrets instead of constantly slaughtering demons.

Make it like the first quake with all the medieval castles and spessmuhrines and ignore the strogg and all that alien bullshit.

Doom has always had multiplayer but that was never the focus. Quake has usually had single player, but that was never the focus.

I would really like to see a return to the Quake style of gameplay though, especially the non-realistic/abstract level design.

Instead of telling your level designers "make a techbase and then make a tramway and then make a laboratory and then make a power station" etc you could just tell them "make whatever the fuck you want". Who knows, if you give the designers more artistic freedom you might find the next Romero in there somewhere.

It's like you don't understand the implications of DOOM's story. It means that every Doom game and .wad are cannon. HDoom, pol.wad, all of them are cannon. Also, Doom guy gives zero shit about the story (I mean, he even rips up the exposition bot's monitor).

I'm not very familiar with the series, but what's the difference between Quake and Doom? Why didn't Quake I just come out as Doom III?

Kind of a silly question, but Quake started off as a much different game. They were hoping to make a more melee oriented game, I forget all of the specifics. It took John Carmack longer than expected to get the engine in a state such that they could actually start making the game, rather than just working on concepts/art, so once he did get it into that state, the dev team had a vote over whether they would just make a Doom-esque game in this engine, or try to do something new, which ended up with us getting what was basically just Doom with a different aesthetic (although really, they play quite differently, especially the MP).
