It is until that one fucker hoards all the good power ups, also the campaign is shit compared to the rest
>3 endings
>in a Twisted Metal game

Bad marketing and the market has changed

This game is what the new Doom is to the Doom games.
It wasn't perfect, but it was fun.
Also, 3 was better than 4

I wanted something more like Black, personally

I didn't play it, but from what people said the online was completely fucked up at launch and didn't get fixed until everyone had already lost interest.

>3 was better than 4

The netcode was shit

>Letting characters use other characters' vehicles
That bugs me a lot.

F

>The worst game in the series was better than the second best game in the series

>This game is what the new Doom is to the Doom games.
Twisted Metal 2012 has the single best combat in its genre though. The new Doom is just... not total shit like we were led to believe.

To answer the OP, shit marketing after the awesome E3 reveal, shit marketing at release, shit support post-release, and shitty non-functional online for weeks at release killed the game at launch.

The game also lacked personality of the previous ones, especially when you compare all the characters from TM2 and Black to the 3 playable characters (and 4 factions) of TM2012.

They fucked up the online netcode.

It was good, and I unlocked warthog within first week, legit

I rented it when it came out. It was terrible. The only Twisted Metal worse than it is that stupid RC car one.

I only ever rented it, so I was never able to play the online because of the shit that Sony was pulling back then with the access codes.

The single player was okay. It had its moments, but there were some extremely frustrating parts. What was dumb was the fact that you could only be three characters. The other cars were in the game, but Sweet Tooth, Dollface and Mr. Grim were the only characters with stories.

I never played online, but apparently it had connection issues.

>Twisted Metal 2012 has the single best combat in its genre though.
The game played horribly, what are you smoking?

>they never fixed the online

This was a deal breaker for me considering the main appeal of TM is multiplayer. Hope David's new game is fun tho'

servers were awful for online, and it wasn't the same old Twisted Metal.

Just 3 drivers and 3 stories.

They should have kept doing what they were doing with Black but upgraded.

>The only Twisted Metal worse than it is that stupid RC car one.
Nigga
Small Brawl wasn't exactly one of the best but it was definitely the most charming

The controls were tight as fuck though. And this comes from someone who logged hundreds of hours on Black, both single player and 4 player split screen.

>only be three characters.
Wasn't preacher in the game too?

It's the only playable twisted metal
I tried black that came with it for free, and it's unplayable.
Somehow when I was kid I was having fun with twisted metal 2 and 3, but I even went back tried those and they're unplayable. Graphics are too shit and other factors

It was good enough for what it was, an online-focused car combat game, so the problem was not getting it into enough people's hands in the launch weeks.
Whether the solution was more marketing, pre-order incentives, or just being a better (more accessible?) game, I don't know... but it needed more players to encourage more purchases.

There's just no demand for it. Shame too, it was really fun.

>Jaffe wants a 16 bit Sweet Tooth action game spin off

youtube.com/watch?v=Wm5fUXdPEhI

What the fuck was the point of preacher? He was so useless and pointless.

>capcha is construction vehicles
>no Mr Slam

don't worry. the superior twisted metal is getting a sweet tooth model soon enough.

I don't know about the online, but you don't get to play as him in the story mode.

It also had a shitty story and the online didn't work.

>Black is unplayable

is Sup Forums even capable of having fun?

It played like a dream. Easily the best in the series.

But they half-assed the single player, which is a huge draw.

Getting best trailer out of the way.

youtube.com/watch?v=xthu7qEf4io

I'm sure Jaffe will put him into Drawn to Death for some pity purchases. Too bad for him that Drawn to Death has been in beta for so long that its release will be a wet fart.

How was the soundtrack for 2012? Never got to try it.

Also HONG KONG KRUNCH BEST TRACK
youtube.com/watch?v=zrVQM1o1c-8

It has 'I Can't Drive 55', 'Heavy Metal', and 'Dragula'. Those three alone justify it.

Game was fun as fuck but like what others have said the netcode was shit and full of jugallos.

I don't care how edgy it is, the flaming chainsaw that heats up when you do wheelies is a great fucking idea.

>implying
youtube.com/watch?v=2j05f2IgiRo

As other anons have said, shit marketing mostly. it was so bad that even on launch week I waited forever to join online matches, if it worked at all. Such a shame, it was a great game. Only game I know that uses subtle motion controls that actually make sense. Thrusting the controller forward for a boost was intuitive and easy to execute. Great stuff.

Sony fucked up with the marketing the game was fun as fuck

they really pushed that it was going to be a multiplayer game but their netcode made the multiplayer unplayable for the first 5 months. by the time it was fixed, everyone had moved on.

but the gameplay was sooooooooo goooood holy shit. no car combat game will never nail it like that game did. it was just so fucking good.

i had a few complaints with the game though.

1) i loved most of the cars but some of them they got lazy on. im pretty sure there were two cars whose specials were just "short range red firebeam". stuff like that.

2) for me, twisted metal has always been playing through the tournament mode in splitscreen with my friends. but i didn't like the tourny mode in this one. the races weren't very fun and the boss fights mostly sucked. they tried to go for big scripted stuff and it ruined it. fighting the flying iron maiden and fighting the giant battle at the end was just tedious. all these dumb little rules were thrown at you and it didn't fit the gameplay. you've got this BEAUTIFULLY crafted combat system but you're having me do dumb little minigames? fuck that.

remember the bosses from the old games? remember when you first fought minion (in any game)? Remember when primevil came out in TM3 and fucked you up good? Remember trying to hide from sweet tooth in TM4? all that shit was crazy awesome and it was just you vs a superpowered car that could kick your ass. the bosses in TM 2013 were only hard because of artificial health bar gimmicks and minigames and having to do this and that and whatever.

AHHHHH SHIT

you got me. Game wasn't the best but god DAMN that track was the best. Still have my old .mp3 from the napster days.

whos your carfu?

I really liked having each character with their own vehicle and specials like in the older Twisted Metal Games I guess.

Death race wasnt an online mode or playable outside of campaign. What a shame it was so much fun too.

also

3) three drivers in the story mode? that was dumb. the drivers are supposed to be tied to the cars, not independent of their cars.

Speaking of Twisted Metal soundtracks, my favorite part of Playstation All-Stars was the Colombia/Dollface stage and its music
youtube.com/watch?v=mBQn2ao7sbM

Club kid without a doubt.

I will say this, though: mixing up the single player with things like races was a good way to liven things up.

It just doesn't excuse having only three characters.

I put custom music on my PS3 and I just constantly played through rob zombie songs with the background music feature.

I dont know anything about the twisted metal series and have never played a single of its games, but I'm glad it bombed and here's why:

I love clowns. I think they're pleasant, I enjoy what they do and I think they're a cultural artifact. I wish I could go back in time to an old timey circus and play shitty carnie games, eat greasy carnie food and generally have wholesome fun. It BUSTS my FUCKING BALLS to see such ICONIC AMERICAN HEROES turned into fucking HORROR SHOWS

CLOWNS AREN'T SCARY, THEY NEVER WERE, STOP BEING FAGGOTS

THEIR NOSES HONK, WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU

Twisted Metal 3 = always Thumper
Twisted Metal 4 = always made my own
Twisted Metal Black = Crazy 8 or Outlaw
Twisted Metal 2012 = based Reaper

Reaper was SO fucking fun in 2012. You could do so much cool shit with him.

youtube.com/watch?v=Vy6vX9SJR48

>Clowns aren't scary

youtube.com/watch?v=Vy6vX9SJR48

Shut up and bleed, you mother--

...

...

Aw yeah. Thumpers special made up for most of the disappointment that was 3. Playing 2 player on calypsos airship with both of us with thumper trying to use our specials to fire eachother into the open pit. So much fun.

Crazy 8's special was so great to use because you could up the damage by pre-charging the directional electrodes and mashing on the button. PURPLE SPARKS

Also totally forgot about making your own driver in TM4. Only problem was the ending for custom oh god why

=Sweet Tooth looks best when he's husky, and not chiseled.

>The modern archetype of the evil clown has unclear origins; the stock character appeared infrequently during the 19th century, in such works as Edgar Allan Poe's Hop-Frog,[1] which is believed by Jack Morgan, of the University of Missouri-Rolla, to draw upon an earlier incident "at a masquerade ball", in the 14th century, during which "the king and his frivolous party, costumed—in highly flammable materials—as simian creatures, were ignited by a flambeau and incinerated, the King narrowly escaping in the actual case."[2] Evil clowns also occupied a small niche in drama, appearing in the 1874 work La femme de Tabarin by Catulle Mendès and in Ruggero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci (accused of being a plagiarism of Mendès' piece), both works featuring murderous clowns as central characters.[3][4]

Made this if anyone wants it

I just realized calypso and sweet tooth have the same models except with different clothes

makes sense because it's all in his head

Disgusting.
Completely took away the "arena" from the game and everything is so over the top
