So we're all in agreement that Kiefer Sutherland was absolutely the right decision over Throat Cancer right?
And that it was a shame that he didn't get that many lines?

>he cant do the voice anymore
they said
>hes been going downhill since MGS2
they said
No he was shit
What does it matter? The character sucks. The game sucks too.
He never got to talk, how would you know?
Kiefer was FAR from the biggest problem this game had
Yeah he's got a better 'Mature' snake voice, not meant for throwing one-liners like Hayter
He was good, nice balance between Cygan and Hayter.
this b8 is of extremely poor quality
>MGS series is over
it hurts
I don't think he fits it well. Too serious for the series.
Also, Hayter's best performance is in MGS4. Prove me wrong.
Kaz was the true hero imo
>THIS IS THE ENEMY ON HIS KNEES!
Actually being serious
Did they get Skullface's lines in the actual cutscenes to be written by a completely different guy than who wrote his lines in the tapes, and give them different descriptions of the character and not let them talk to each other about their work?
No he was shit, but that's your own opinion so we are not in agreement
Both of these statements are confirmed true.
God speed user.
Does not even matter considering Not Snake is a fucking mute throughout the game. Kojima could of saved money and had a complete nobody voice him.
Nigga his "we'll make diamonds from their asses" scene was better than MGS2's, 3's and 4's voice acting combined.
Also this
>too serious for the series
Having a range doesn't make it too serious. Hayter's awful HRRRRRRRRRRRKK [REPEAT LAST WORD SAID] dialogue stopped being funny by 3.
It was worth it to see Hayter get this butthurt. Seriously, you could have replaced him with the worst voice actor in history and it would have been worth it. The last thing we need is overpaid voice actors thinking they need to get paid more, thus helping to push games becoming more expensive, or having less content. I mean, when I go on jobs and get paid $500 - $1000 an hour for the actual work I do, instead of the time I spend sitting around playing games, you will never see me complain.
It was okay, but if he wasn't going to say anything anyway why didn't they just go with Hayter
>when you were given all the tools to make the best Metal Gear Solid game but make the worst one instead
Best voice acting in the whole game.
Atkin Downes really rocked it.
I was personally fine either way. It was everything else that killed my interest in the game.
Should I give GZ a shot? I don't wanna play the same fucking mission over and over again just to unlock stuff in MGSV but I don't want to start MGSV knowing I don't have everything. Eventually I need to play it, even if the story is ass.
>"Herro, you have reached Hideo Kojima, I'm not able to answer my phone at the moment, reave a message after tha beep" *beep*
>...Hey uh... Mister Kojima, it's me Kief, just wondering if you wanted me to come back to the studio for more recording anytime soon, I'm really looking forward to working with you more on this, just uh, could I get a bit more stuff to do, I'm having a hard time really being able to portray the character with what you've given me. I'm not really busy much these days, so I'm uh... looking forward to doing more stuff for the game...
>...
>...Look, just give me a call whenever you need me again... uh... thanks...
No. Kiefer did a good job, but Hayter will always be Snake in many people's eyes. The reason why Hayter did the cancer voice was because the voice director told him to. Sick of retards thinking Hayter chose to do that voice on his own. Hayter is more than capable of doing his MGSV voice.
He is a really good va I honestly want to play everything he acts in.
So what about Troy Baker as Ocelot?
Would be cool if Venom Snake wasn't a nothing character.
i really wish he was talkative like in GZ
TPP was such a let down cause you had such a good voice with keifer and then venom barely talks
I enjoyed the fact he made Ocelot sound like a cowboy.
It would have been cool if he actually acted like Ocelot.
Horrible, southern accent from out of nowhere that then gets replaced with Zimmermans accent later. Baker is a hack
Completely generic, boring, and unfiting of the character because of it
Baker needs to go back to doing anime. Voice actors need to stop thinking they're hot shit all the time, if I was an actor I'd probably do any job I got offered.
Meant to say MGS1. Fucking auto correct.
He was pretty good, but Atkin Downes was the true star imo
He was alright but Miller stole the show.
Hamburger's and all, as I stated before the whole trial scene, caring for his men. I loved mgsv for caring about characters who are literally fodder, the saluting and everything made me tear up.
Him and otacons VA were the only 2 who were actually utilized and performed well
Does he quote the fucking train stations or whatever that the AI in 2 listed off?
>He was never good to begin with
He was barely passable in MGS1, because actual voice work in console games was in its' infancy. He was always shitty. Ōtsuka and Sutherland are better by miles. He did a shitty 'voice' for years that everyone made fun of. He sounds like a gruff autistic Valley Girl.
I love miller more as time goes on. Best character in phantom pain that's why BB's betrayal hit him so much.
You don't burn a brother in arms on the pyre.
Yes.
>He was barely passable in MGS1
what is wrong with you
boring, unfitting and completley forgettable, but that was the fault of KojiPro not really the VA
>tfw we never got a game about the Boss running around during WWII and being a general badass bitch.
FUCK HUEY. I wish we could have atleast had the decision to have Ocelot and Miller torture him to death ala meryl/otacon.
>Easier to tell yourself a convenient lie than face a horrible truth.
Isn't the whole point that it's someone else trying to sound like big boss
>mumble every line in the same flat monotone droll
>no guys he's totally better than David.
>tfw we never got metal gear solid about revolutionary war snake working for the REAL patriots
That's why I liked his VA, same voice for two characters. Like one, despise the other.
No because explain Ground Zeroes
That doesn't explain why medic always sounded like he was about to fall asleep.
>Eventually I need to play it, even if the story is ass.
It's really not that bad, it's just not very gratifying end.
I suggest you wait for a sale, since I wouldn't pay more that $5 for GZ imo.
Funny story but I saw that Sutherland was coming to this little dive bar in town. Turns out the dude is a pretty decent country musician. The guy can actually sing pretty well. Fun show. Check him out if he's still touring.
>tfw never get a game playing as boss recruiting wolf and raven, the plot could take place during tpp and cia or something is investigating him and shit.
I just imagine boss doing all that during tpp say what you will about venom it fixed a plothole.
He was pretty convincing with his bullshit.
>That isn't a dog, it's a wolf!
Pause. Pause. Pause. What's wrong? Pause.
Xbox, pause.
I will try and catch him on the county fair circuit
Nigga you just went full Assassins Creed
That would have being cool as shit, too bad we'll never get it.
Ground zeroes was venom snakes original brain washing
This games story actually would have been really legit with 3 changes.
1. Make Venom an actual character instead of a player insert. You can still make the metaphor work with the player freedom during gameplay angle = you are big boss. But let venom have his damn personality and express himself more often. Do this by adding more events and story scenes back home at motherbase.
2. Make Skullface more threatening and give him a bigger presence throughout the game. Have people you rescue tell you horror stories about "The Man without a Face" and make some of those filler sidequests into flashbacks. Malak tells you when you rescue him that "they burned" his village down. Referring to XOF. What if you then got a playable flashback where you had to escape as Malak- as XOF systematically burned his village down, while you hear skullface commanding them and giving them orders.
3. Give each type of "Skull" unit (Fog, Armor, Sniper) a "leader" who is basically a super version of that skull with a personality and very unique moves to serve as traditional bossfights in the game. They introduce themselves and talk during a Skull Units introduction/first fight, and then later there will be an actual fight one on one vs the skull unit leader.
For example, Fog Skull Leader would taunt you as you escape with Miller. Later during the "Where do the Bees Sleep?" he will show up as a one on one Boss fight if you either kill all of the skulls in the area or if you escape those skulls he will cut you off for a fight further down the canyon before extraction.
Also, it goes without saying, but give chapter 2 content!
Most of that is still there except for maybe some of the stuff he says to Paz.
I 100% believe that, that line right there was the greatest line ever. The sheer emotion and voice acting on that line is legendary. It gives me chills whenever I hear it.
m.youtube.com
chief kief did a good job
I'm sure he is still completely capable to do the 'voice', but he has never been capable of acting. Ever. And that gets worse every single game
I have a set of functional ears. David Hayter is fucking horrible and he always has been. Ohtsuka is better by fucking miles. I'm glad that they hired an actor to play Venom. I feel like I've had this conversation a thousand times. Everyone you know is capable of doing Solid Snake/Big Boss' voice. Everyone.
...metal gear?
I thought Kiefer did a great job for what little dialogue he had, its disappointing venom didn't have as much dialogue as big boss did in GZ. I can see what Hideous Kojimbo was going for with venoms character though.
His lack of dialogue was just disappointing the skull face jeep scene was made even worse by the fact venom does not talk a single time during it.
I also hated that one of the best scenes in the game where venom actually acts like big boss for once is optional and most people probably won't see it
How is 'everything I say is a question' Hayter better? I'll never understand the love he gets. I played MGS1 over and over again when it came out. I made fun of his cheesy awful voice from the start and it only goes downhill. The first game gets a pass due to it's age. Everything after that is a fucking mistake.
The intensity he projects in that one sentence is staggering.
Oh, I own both. They're installed even. It's just, knowing there's hardly any story and what's there is pretty shit, not to mention the tweest, I was so supremely disappointed that I haven't been able to bring myself to play it.
I was so, so very pumped when the Nacho Kind of People trailer came out, then hyped as fuck when the Nuclear trailer came out. Then it was just the same footage over and over and I knew something was wrong.
The actual outcome was still worse than I had anticipated. Knowing this is probably the last game in the series depresses me way more deeply than is healthy.
I think everyone agrees that Downes was the super star of this game.
He did fine as ocelot but the VA was not even the problem with ocelot. The biggest problem with ocelot was that he is a completely different character for no reason. Its made even worse when you realize he went back to being who he was in MGS3 in MGS1.
So he goes from being his cocky flamboyant self in MGS3, does a 180 and becomes mature and super serious then does another 180 and goes back to how he was. Chronologically he does a completel 360 throughout the timeline personality wise which makes little sense.
Huey was one of the best characters in the game and one of the only ones with a complete story (minus battle gear not having any relevance) they did such a great job making you hate how much of a conniving backstabbing shitbag he was.
Fucking play the game you stupid ass hat. Venom not being Big Boss was never a fucking twist in the first place. It was fucking obvious. I really hate people that shit all over a game without playing it for themselves.
>someone on Sup Forums told me that it was bad so it is really bad!
The game is clearly not everything that Kojima wanted it to be, but to deprive yourself of playing it is a shame.
>it was never a twist
>the last mission is called TRUTH
Yes you're clever for noticing that kiefer voiced the guy next to you
Hell I made my guy look like Solidus and named him Jack
He did great.
Hayter was incredibly memorable and I loved his performance in the other games. It was goofy as fuck, but if fit, and it was an iconic voice for an iconic character.
Kiefer was far more subdued and serious in his approach to the voice, and he was iconic as well, albeit in a different way. I don't know if replacing Hayter was a good idea or not, but Kiefer was a good choice.
Well, that was kind of what my initial post was about. Are the GZ bonuses worthwhile? Should I just skip it and play TPP?
I own both but I feel silly putting a few hours into a demo just to get bonuses in the main game.
Play it. It's got fun stealth gameplay, just look at it like a side mission.
You don't have to grind as much for supplies and background info is worth it.
Alright, alright. I'll start this weekend. Thanks, anons.
Also if you're playing console you can put cd's and on pc put your own soundtrack only in gz but tpp you have to do file manipulation on pc.
Also a sidequest/op that I won't spoil but it makes almost no sense unless you play gz.
I love that lone "oh my god" when he gets stabbed
I hate that the scene is impossible to get if you play competently.
Not even competently, you have to actively just stay out in the field and do nothing forever
i agree to an extent, david hayter should never have been both big boss and solid snake but kiefer did a really poor job in mgsv, they should have cast an actual voice actor with experience in voice acting and a genuine interest in the role which is emphasised by how much christopher randolph, robin atkin downes and even donna burke as a fucking gps outperformed him
Geez the game is too playable for me to ever get it then.
Not really. He just sounded kind of drunk and bored. I was more disappointed with the facial capture. Kojima made a big deal about that but his face barely had any movement or expression in it throughout the game. I'll agree that Kaz was great though.
Kiefer did well
Huray for Travis Touchdown.
it was really weird seeing one of the best villains in metal gear turning into dick dastardly but honestly i think the game needed more of the charm from shit like "such a lust for revenge"
>one of the best villains in metal gear
are you retarded?
>Kiefer Sutherland was absolutely the right decision
His most memorable quotes are "Rocketto punch!", "Eat this!" and "Don´t die ahab!"
Skullface was the best villan this series will ever have. The bell ringing tape is intense.
God Skull Face in Ground Zeroes was so fucking good. I can't believe how shit he turned out to be.
honestly i think gz is the better game of the two, you cant argue with the value added with more playtime and its fairly apparent from the controls and the like that gz wasnt the final product but theres something about it which just leaves me thinking its better even if i play it less often than tpp
probably down to the lack of grind and its level design
I can't get enough of these fucking edits
It's not even like he was actually there, he was just cleaning up red tape
