i recall turok 2 running at abysmal framerates on high res mode, and high detail games like that already struggled in certain areas

Steam has games for sale right now on the store that are non-functional. I don't mean not fun or uninteresting or down right bad, I mean they do not function as software. Whether it be a game that doesn't run on new computer standards or online only games that no longer have servers (or functionality for private servers).

There is nothing on the store page for these games to indicate they don't work either. Not a massive problem now that we have refunds, but still.

Nintendo came up with this device that enabled it to be at least passable.

Then Nintendo took the device and had some other games use it as well.

What actually happened is there was a bug they couldn't fix in time in the low-res version, so they just said "fuck it" and released it with a free expansion pack instead of delaying it.

I've seen Perfect Dark threads recently. I don't think enough people have gone back to it with the 360/Rare Replay version of the game that has a better framerate and better aiming controls. I wouldn't know though because I still have the N64 version in my backlog.

No. The 360 at launch did not require any game installs, unlike PS. And doc would not be prevalent for years, and at that time cheaper options were available.

Psx were shit because they didn't hold anything. PSP was fine because digital games weren't really a thing for many years. Vita is a big priggish because huge patches, and most of its games being digital only, and dlc. Ps2 was fine though.

Perfect dark could be played without one, but some features were locked without it.

I'm still using a 9 year old card, works fine for emulation and most games on medium

my brother got a realms world for our minecraft shenanigans a while ago. It was cool to see after the initial free trial was over the world he had created was still stored, and we could even export it back out of the realm server to play it lan style again.
