What are some really bonkers versions of Hell?

the original Doom has the whole flesh-walls / screaming-faces thing going on... but the new Doom's version is a bunch of dusty floating rocks and stuff

Dante's Inferno, op. They spent more effort on the environments than they did on making the gameplay not tedious and repetitive.

Dante's Inferno and the new Doom are the best representations of Hell in games yet.

Not exactly hell, but Red Dead Redemption had the best portrayal of Satan I've seen in a video game

My favorite games are the ones that slowly descend you into the madness of hell.
I still play the original Diablo every once in a while just to get that feeling.

Nah, that game is repetitive garbage. Designs were cool, gameplay was dull and tedious.

I really liked the Doom 3 representations of hell. The nice mix of gothic architecture and 2spooky4u caverns with bizarro floating platforms and shit really rustled me good.

I honestly think Painkiller had such an interesting idea of hell. Just fragments of the most terrible things in history, frozen in place forever. That shit is chilling.

Every time I read this title I think it is a DMC spinoff.

Diablo 3 actually has a pretty sweet Heaven.
Glowing trees, pools of energy, bridges made of light, all floating in the clouds. I love that is becomes corrupted the further you go.

Also, Guardian Heroes.

That was so god damn well done area, to be fair most of the game was really good anyway.

I always like Diablo ' versions of hell / hellish areas in both 2 and 3. Not only were they intensely atmospheric they were also really contrasted well by the heavens area. I mean holy shit just thinking about how varied and elaborate in terms of detail those eviroment were combo'd with the random map generation.

Diablo 3 might have been crap there for awhile until RoS dlc but hot damn did it redeem itself.

I've never been so certain that something was off, but so uncomfortably uncertain as to the exact nature of what it was.
