A friend of mine put together an $800 computer through logicalincrements in 2011 and he's still playing vidya on it just fine today. A couple more years and it'll have lasted as long as a console generation

There are multiple programs out these days that you can use that allow you to control your computer exclusively with the controller (The only one I remember the name of is Switchblade, which used to be free but isn't anymore). Then you can set it through msconfig to launch on startup so you never have to use your keyboard or mouse again. This all takes maybe 10 minutes of setup, tops. .

Spending $400 on a dust collector is also stupid, and you never have to spend over $1000 on PC unless you plan on maxing out at 4k resolution.
Even if you DO spend $1000 on a PC, you can get new games for 20% off through third party retailers, and don't have to pay to play them online. Let's compare numbers

I agree that you can do that, but for example if I play battlefront or overwatch from my couch with a gamepad, then I will definitely suck against people with keyboard + mouse.

My PC is in the study on the 2nd floor and the console is in the cave with a 50 inch screen and a kickass sound system.

I dunno, I guess I could somehow work something out but every time I go and sit down to play something on the PC, I get distracted with work stuff. So I boot up Civ 5 and while waiting for a map to load, I get stuff like "Oh, Mandy needs that invoice sent tomorrow", "I need to do the marketing materials for James later", and "I need to reply to emails soon". I play for five minutes before closing it down and do work stuff. I just can't clear my mind as easily as consoles do. Maybe I just associate the study as a "place to work" and the cave as a "place to relax". If this is true, then I'd like to keep it this way. No need to fuck with what works.

Also I don't really care about nicer graphics or framerates

Looks good user, I checked and the CPU/RAM are compatible with the motherboard. Other than that, GPU/HDD/SSD are pretty much plug and play and compatible with most recent motherboards that have the necessary slots.

Yeah, I know about games like Arma, but with limited time they don't really appeal to me. The only games that I play on my laptop are hearthstone and civilization 5. Both of which run great on it.
