canon should have ended after MGS 3. MGS 5 was fun in terms of gameplay but MGS 4 just tucked it all up and MGS 5 was literally blue balls the game.

MGS 1 ended so perfectly. They Kojima had to fuck it up.

Should of ended with MGS4
Fuck Big boss

Clunky. Horrible controls. I just watched the game on youtube instead

canon ended after 1

i only liked snake eater

and only because it seemed like it had nothing to do with the rest of the series on a count of it being the overall prequel

Has anyone here played this ?

What do you think of the Vita hd port ?

Really should have ended at 3. 5 kinda stained the series a bit

Probably the greatest series in all of video games. Every single game was amazing.

Tied for the position of my all time favorite series.

First three are great. Four is kinda funky but V is unforgivable.

1 and 2 stained the series a bit. 3 is the only thing worth remembering.

It's decent
MGS2 is 60 fps only in small areas
MGS3 stays at it's original frame rate of 30fps
It's still worth getting if you can't get the ps3 version

What made MGS1 so impressive back in the day? Was Solid Snake just a bit less generic than he could have been?

MGS2>MGS3>MGS5GZ>MGSPW>MGS1>MGS5TPP

Never directly played any of the games, but the tone always seemed really off to me. I feel it can't decide whether it wants to captivate me or make me laugh.

These are the people that need to be gassed

meh , don't love it but don't hate it really . it got boring.

STANDING

Everything after 3 wasn't necessary

4 was fun and full of pure fanservice but it nullifies to whole message of MGS 2
PW was mostly filler and you had to grind to get the true ending
5 was pretty much PW on steroids which still isn't saying much

there is a hole in the series i'll give it that.

Damn right

1>3>2>4>5

MGSV ruined the series

Fucking mouthbreather, you call that critcism?

Metal Gear 1&2 = pretty clunky, some really dumb shit, actually

MGS1 = top tier for its time, pretty stiff gameplay wise

Ghost Babel = it's like they took MG2 and MGS1 and made a fucking awesome handheld version even better than the originals.

MGS2 = a hell of a leap mechanics wise but very rough around the edges and jesus fuck cutscenes and codecs

MGS3 = tuned up MGS2 gameplay combined with dumb ideas. Story-wise, the overarching plot this is where it all fell to shit. The inclusion of The Boss shat on everything with how it all then focused around her. This is the part where I stopped giving a shit about Story in an MGS and treated it as a series where you replay over and over to fuck around.

Portable Ops = Didn't do well to translate MGS3 style gameplay to a handheld. Still didn't stop me from dragging guards across the map to the truck or nearest cardboard box for hundreds of hours.

MGS4 = subperb gameplay, honestly the first time the series felt like a stealth game rather than running circles around blind guards. To hell with anything making sense, I could play it through from beginning to end over and over, skipping cutscenes.

Peace Walker = pretty good gameplay which was effectively a trimmed down version of MGS4 controls for a PSP. The vehicle bosses were a slog, but the rest of the missions were fun, especially with four player coop. Spent countless nights walking my neighborhood pinging every wifi to recruit Volunteer soldiers and get Lv99 in every base facility. Best stupid gadgets ever.

MGSV = a different blend of excellent gameplay, the best stealth in the series as well as in the "stealth" genre overall. However the "open world" was pretty lame as mostly empty plains and small structures and Sahelanthropus was a shit metal gear.

Measuring the series on a metric of pure gameplay without any consideration to story, it's only gotten better with each game.
Story-wise, shit peaked all the way back with MGS1 before The Boss plotline.

As far as portable MGS goes, it is your best pick. MGS3 is god damn great to play in a handheld.
Shame you have to download MGS1 and PW from other sources.

The only good games are 3 and V.

ON THE EDGE

>MGS3 = tuned up MGS2 gameplay

Thank god we have this thread today, I just finished MGS3D in a sitting.
>That Volgin fight.
>That the Fear fight.
>That the boss fight.
Just a god damn great series.

I'm still wondering if MGS and Zone Of The Enders take place on the same universe.

It's slower, but more open ended and intricate

...

and the same universe as ape escape

I'm counting every videogame crossover big boss had in the 60's as LSD hallucinations

As a whole I enjoyed it. 1,2,3 were extremely enjoyable, after that it got less and less fun and cool. Every release after that I didn't enjoy. 1 is absolutely perfect

Objectively wrong

I love all of them Besides GZ and 5 since story wasn't as silly and fucking around with TECHNOLOGY and enemies wasn't as fun, including POPS (specially POPS +) and PW.
To me, this is a series that shows how much detail can be put into videogames. MGS3 should be a damned standard in videogame design.

Should have ended after 3 Kojima fucked up the series.

You can look at it in groups of games.

Mgs1 is a perfect game
Mgs1+mgs2 is a perfect series and quite possibly the best sequel of any medium, also the best ending we got for the series.

Now if you look at it as mgs 1 2 3, then 3 is the odd man out, but still great and makes sense.

When you look at the whole franchise 3 seems to make such a huge impact since the both the beginning if the series and the beginning if the second trilogy (the prequels)

However, looking at 3 that way makes 1 and 2, which really make up the core of the story thematically, seem more bland.

Love kojima and will always be a fan but objectively best series is 1+2, maybe 1+2+3. I also dont wanna discredit the rest, which is wonderful too.

>Giving 4 & 5 this much credit.
>Shit talking Snake Eater
>Shit talking The Boss

That actually makes the most sense to me too. 2 was this bizarre sequel that ending up being great. We never asked for 3 but it winded uo being memorable in its own way. I wonder what could have been different if 3 was half of 4 and was played in flashbacks or something like that. We never really needed any Big Boss games, not that I'm complaining either, but the story started and should have finished with Snake.

I think it shit for pretentious weaboos who never read a book.
