Say what you will about Max Payne 3 but it's fucking amazing in every way besides the story, which is better than most people give it credit for.

I know, I know. You wanted to be in a doom and gloom gangster NY/NJ setting, but think about it. Max is a fucking dead man in that area, he needed a change. Not only to escape thugs and corrupt cops wanting to kill him but to escape the emotional trauma that lingers there. He wanted a bright, fun, new experience. Also Brazil is a fucking ghetto wasteland so there is plenty of gang violence to be found.

No more magic pockets is a great thing, just look at the animations. He's rolling to pick up a shotgun while dropping two cached uzi's and holding the shotgun low to use a pistol. It's just incredible to see him pull a sawed off shotgun from his chest strap and put it directly in a thugs face and obliterate them.

The music and graphics were great. The physics were more realistic and amazing. Enemy AI was slightly better with more flanking and tactics from the enemies.

The main complaint I hear is "This is a great game, just not a great Max Payne game!". I say fuck that, this is the ending Max deserved after all the shit he's been through. You even get throw back NY/NJ levels to quell your noir boner.

One of the only legit complaints to be had is the load times, which aren't as bad when you've beaten the game and start playing the challenge modes, which are fantastic.

The online was fucking fantastic and me and my crew ran that shit on 360. Always crushed the competition

This is the absolute worst aspect of the game. IMPOSSIBLE to find all the loot/gun pieces without a walkthrough because ooops you killed the guy that triggers the cut scene and you can't go back to the previous area

Considering the sheer amount of gameplay and gun fights, the cutscenes aren't that bad. And you can skip most of them after the game loads in the background. It might chop up the story a little but as I said, the story isn't the selling point for the game. It's the sheer attention to detail with gunplay, physics, style, and just plain old fun.

Not impossible but monotonous. And those collectibles were pretty worthless overall, I found them all by my 3rd playthrough, only needing a guide to find a handful of pieces

And just to add about the story/cutscenes thing, Max Payne has never been about a good story. The first game is crazy conspiracy theory about Valkyr which is just a tool for some bad shit to happen to Max's family (like the dog in John Wick is just an excuse for a fun movie). The last boss is an old illuminati lady and an underboss is a satanic thug. 2 has a better story but it's still ironic and meta and kind of wonky, also not that games selling point. The variety of guns, playing as Mona, level design, and mod capacity (kung fu, equilibrium, cinematic mods were all fantastic) were.

Can't stand that people ride 3 for having a goofy story when Max Payne has always had wonky plot lines that reference or parody other media

Of all the nonsensical silly shit in this game, this was the only thing that bothered me. BJ spends a decade or more sitting in a fucking chair, ending up in his mid 40s, and he's still muscular as shit.
